Big news!

So, we have some big news regarding ARC. No, it's not done yet, but this announcement might actually be even better than that.

First off, we have released the ARC source code as Open Source at Google Code. That's right. Now everybody can download ARC's source code and fiddle around with it as well as contribute by proposing fixes and joining the development team. Check it out here: https://arcreator.googlecode.com

This brings a few new things with it.

1. ARC is going to be free, forever. No more licensing fees are we previously said.

2. We are not going to make a "new" RPG maker. The "Legacy Edition" (which was basically an RMXP on steroids) will be the actual release. We might write our own scripts, because you are technically not allowed to use the RTP scripts.

3. We are going to add some additional stuff to improve upon the existing design (e.g. a particle engine) which means that the compatibility with RMXP should not be impacted too much, but there WILL BE a few scripts that might not work with ARC since we also want to change some things that in our opinion Enterbrain could have done better.

Yup. The URL you are supposed to check out is a bit different, but everything else is the same. Simply check the "Code" tab on SF to find the URL. If the password prompt window from the SSH annoys you (because it annoys me as hell), just google how to cache the SSH key.

RMX-OS itself should work just fine in ARC. There won't be any "integrated" support, but it can still be scripted.

EDIT: Oh, did I mention that we have also enabled the hidden Core Development forum to the public?

Alright awesome!  I haven't posted on CP in a couple months, and I just recently read through the recent posts....and let me tell you, hearing that all 4 of you guys are back together and actively working on ARC again is awesome!

Honestly to tell you the truth, the fact that it's going to be free doesn't make that much of a difference to me as I would have bought a license anyway :haha:

It sounds though like you've narrowed the scope of the project for the initial release, which I think is a VERY GOOD THING.  Get something out there (to us, your loyal beta-testers/rpg makers) and then iterate on that and add more functionality in the future.  I'm shedding a retro tear right now for killing MIDI support, but the extras (particle system, more supported platforms, etc.) will make that of little consequence.

Keep us posted, fearless leaders 8)

We are going to switch over to Google Code. Sourceforge has been horrible in the past few weeks and we've just had enough of it at Cateia so we're switching all our projects to Google Code. This means that I will also switch over ARC.

No, currently not. I've been crazy busy last month and this month won't be much different. I probably won't be able to do anything until the middle of May. But at that point I will fix the currently broken rendering code. We've updated the underlying libraries at Cateia a lot since the last stable ARC version, but I haven't added any of them yet. A lot of these updates should improve the performance and some general stability (especially texture loading and manipulation such as blitting).

May 12, that the day I official start my summer break, it also the day I start working again but I'm planning on not letting that stop me from doing other things. last summer I was too tired to do anything after work but a good part of the was depression and an unwillingness to try. I'm going to be working hard starting then to get some progress on all my non academic goals, including aRC and getting my body in good shape.
I no longer keep up with posts in the forum very well. If you have a question or comment, about my work, or in general I welcome PM's. if you make a post in one of my threads and I don't reply with in a day or two feel free to PM me and point it out to me.
