Getting Stuff Done
« on: March 14, 2011, 04:09:31 AM »
This is a laid back community project, and it goes at whatever pace we care to work on it.  Progress has been slow recently.  I'm not mad about this, I know people are on break and other stuff comes up.  The problem is that we are still working at planning a lot of the basic features of the game.  This type of development is really easy and requires little time, all you have to do is read, think for a few minutes, and post.  This is the easy part, and there's no reason to get stuck on anything due to lack of activity.  Once we get main development underway and start with the mapping, scripting, eventing, etc., then we will have an excuse to slow down and take our time.  But right now, it's just the easy stuff.

So let's get stuff done, shall we? :)

Working on the story as much as my schedule allows. Some weeks are busier than others, but I write when I have time between classes. I'll be sure to post updates in the Story thread as I get things finished for feedback.

I suggest that you lay out a plan for mapping. It would be good if people started working on it already. Once you have 100 maps or so, people will feel that the project is going somewhere and be a lot more dedicated than to a project that doesn't have even one map.
Getting 100 maps done is really not a big deal if many people work on it. Remexos has already far over 100 maps.

I'll start on the sprites so we can make the information thread look a little better.

I have the introductory mapping thing set up so that we can define our style before we start on actual game maps.  With an MMO, mapping is repetitive enough that it is simply a process of time.  For single player games, mapping has to be more carefully planned.  Also, I know you are just trying to be helpful and offer suggestions, but I've got everything under control :)

I can work on the sprites too. Are we going to use a template?

I think we need a plan to begin working on sprites and knowing how is each one doing. Focus on main characters will be a good first step.

Use Calintz's template. @Hatsamu: Would you start doing colour versions please?

Yep. By updates I was actually referring to colour versions (and the poor and abandoned Gerald)

I guess in a few hours I'll get the time I need to do this.

Progress seems to have slowed. I've been working on the story and posting new ideas as I have them, but no one else seems to be doing much, from what I can see. I'd just like to encourage everyone to put in a bit of effort towards this project when they get a bit of free time - I'd rather not have this go the same way as Remexos.

I'm in the middle of finals.  I assume everyone has been having a busy time as well.  I'll be done in 10 days, but I'm sure other people go much later.

Don't worry, I'm sure when summer picks up and everyone has less to do, this will get lots of work put into it.  I still think we can keep the June deadline for the demo.

I was gonna say basically the same thing. But let's not sell ourselves short here, just wait for summer.

I wouldn't worry just yet.

I know people are probably busy with other things; I was just posting a gentle reminder so people don't forget about this when they once again have free time.

I'm saying that people don't need the reminder.  It will be more fun to work on this project when we aren't constantly being reminded of how much work there is to do.  Let's keep it laid back, alright? :)

EDIT: that may have come out wrong.  I'm not mad at you or annoyed or anything, I just want to keep the project relaxed.

Hello, everyone!

My life was under some changes this last month... xP Now I'm kinda back to a more controlled schedule and I really want to catch up with this.

Could someone give me a list of what I'm supposed to do in order to save me the time of checking every post, please?

(I'll check the Concept Art threads when I get back from my job, anyway, cuz I know most of my "to do stuff" is over there, but I don't want to forget about anything I've said I was going to do)

Actually, people have been pretty busy with finals and all, although I'm expecting things to start picking up again sometime this month.  Basically, the demo is the top priority, and we set a deadline at the end of June.

Also, WELCOME BACK :D

Yay, Hatsamu's back! Things are going to get rolling again! I'll redouble my efforts on the story and get it finished within the next couple of weeks. I look forward to seeing everyone else's efforts on their own tasks, as well.

Also if you want to test out the Grassland / Underground Cavern, it needs to be checked for bugs and such. I'm usually pretty thorough though.
