[Game Maker] Unstable - Demo, Version 1.2

Unstable is a role-playing game that follows the adventures of a group of interdimensional travelers on a quest to do something they’re not quite sure about. It spans over half a dozen worlds (or universes, or dimensions, or whatever you want to call them) and three years, and shows part of how the single most important event in the history of the multiverse came to occur.

Note: The Alien and the Wizard are the only player characters who must select certain skills to use. All other PCs, like Roo and Dapan, can eventually learn all of their skills.

This music is all from the first part of the game, in the Thunder Hill World. There is more music written than this, but it should stay as a surprise until the point in the game where you can actually hear it. If you’re curious, the music was all written with Guitar Pro 6.

This demo is not actually a part of the game. The characters, skills, items, and Attackers are going to be in the real game. This particular map, with these NPCs, will not be in the game, nor will the Deadtacker. Most of these things are designed to make it easier to appreciate the features that will actually be in the game.

20/04/2012 (1.2) - Added Tutorial Mode and more battle noises. Fixed a bunch of glitches.
25/03/2012 (1.1) - Added snowfall, footprints, shadows, bird enemy, and battle noises for the male Alien and Wizard. Fixed a bunch of glitches.
23/03/2012 (1.0) - Released Demo


lonely_cubone, for the majority of the battle engine and a lot of the music
King_Ooga_TonTon, for the majority of the overworld engine, basically all of the graphics, and some of the music

I love game maker <3. I'm not as advanced in it as I am in c# or rmxp but I'm pretty skilled in it. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

Well, I'm too lazy to make anything more interesting, but it's slightly better than just text :P

And thanks, both of you! I've got a good chuck of the battle engine done, and TonTon is probably close to finishing the overworld engine (I hope). Once we've got some actual gameplay, we'll make screenshots and a demo.

Bump: Added information about some of the evil characters, added to Embiemon's description, and put in a note about multiplayer mode.

I updated some information, including the new name for this game. We're getting ready to release our first demo :D

EDIT: Okay, I added a note about character customization, modified the background information, and redid the description of the Wizard, since his abilities have changed greatly since this was first written.

Very nice job, the game reminds me of Earthbound for some reason, and has a neat classic feel to it. :D

One little bug to look into I encountered: When you walk into a house, the rest of the screen goes black and the inside of the house becomes visible. Mine ended up after exploring a bit that when I was outside, the inside was visible, and vice-versa.
I am done scripting for RMXP. I will likely not offer support for even my own scripts anymore, but feel free to ask on the forum, there are plenty of other talented scripters that can help you.

Just a question about the bug, what exactly were you doing when the inside/outside changed? Like were you just walking around randomly and it switched, or did you try and go into a building and it didn't switch?

We're also getting pretty close to releasing Version 1.1 of the demo. Hooray for shadows, voices and snow!

I think I was switching between the menu and the map, though I am not 100%. I was testing different buttons to see what they did at the time. Sorry I'm not more descriptive, I know its hard to reproduce a bug without knowing the conditions that cause it...
I am done scripting for RMXP. I will likely not offer support for even my own scripts anymore, but feel free to ask on the forum, there are plenty of other talented scripters that can help you.

We just released version 1.1 of the demo. Your problem should be fixed now. There's also a bunch of new things (mostly visual and audio effects).

And now there's 1.2! We've done considerable work on the game, fixing glitches as well as adding tutorials and more voices for the demo. Anyone who has played it and not been exactly sure what to do is strongly encouraged to try it again.

The only thing that bugs me on the screenshots are the high quality shadow blobs under the characters. They are inconsistent with the rest of the game. Any idea how could be done better?

I didn't think it was too jarring, but if you do, we should probably change it. We have a bunch of other stuff to do before that, but I'll get to it before the next update (which is coming at some point).
