More bugs found/fixed:

-Removed the button key method of skipping cinematics and replaced it witrh a dialogue upon the cin's start
-The Mimic in the abandoned house shouldn't be easily killed by level 2's anymore.
-Fixed several events that would not erase after completion
-Fixed two move routes
-Added in an extra transition map between the outskirts and Alathka (Waaay too short before.)

New Projects / Blue Horizon - A newly created proj

The working title I had when first designing this around two years ago was Blue Horizon. I never thought of a better title and so it stuck. After a month or three I left the Rpg Maker community and focused my attention on other things. Recently I dug this up on my hard drive while cleaning and started to work on it daily. This is the effort of another month of work. I was originally making up the story as I went along, but then I started including elements from my fictional world I had been doodling. Since then I came up with a vague idea of what I want the story to be.

Any similarities to other storylines, commercial or otherwise, is purely coincidental. The ONE reference to any other game is the Spell naming system of Final Fantasy (Cure, Cura, Curaga, Curaja, etc) and that is all.

In effect:

-The game starts up with a scene of a mine and a strange crystal that had been dug up.
-The main character(s) learn of this and head to a town to talk with a miner that worked there.
-The main character(s) and the miner decide to head to a town far to the southwest with the crystal.

Planned:

-While traveling to Archwind (The forementioned town) the heroes are separated.
-Each of the three party members have a separate playthrough for a while.
-While playing on one member's mini-story he/she comes across a passive dragon who joins the party
-Upon reaching Archwind the magicsmith mentioned earlier had been abducted
-... ... ...More to be thought of ... ... ...


Current Features:

-ParaDog's Sideview ATB

-Blizzard's Status Effects, Skills, Map Names
-Save Point system
-Momomo's Bestiary

-Face pictures for each of the main characters during dialogue

Planned:

-Using the dragon member to fast travel to various towns
-mini-quest and non-quest dungeons (one in effect currently)
-New Game++ Mode (Yeah right. But I can hope can't I?)
-"Oversoul" Monsters

Right now the opening cinematic and the cinematic of the party discussing what to do with the stone can be skipped. I have ironed out many of the bugs I had found during the three cinematics currently in-game that I know of.

Edit:  Fixed a few more bugs
Currently fixed:

-Skipping the opening cinematic would not work
-Skipping the opening cin would cause the player to be stuck after the cinematic
-Attempting to leave the first area after completing the opening quest would bring up the dialogue "We have to turn back"
-Sophia no longer remains in game after the second cinematic is finished
-After Nicolas joins the party the player would be stuck in forced Set Move Route
-The Mimic in the Abandoned Home in Alathka would get stuck in the stairs, blocking the player from entering.
-In the simple box puzzle in the Abandoned Home's basement, it is possible to block the only exit with the boulders preventing the player from ever leaving
-Soldiers stationed on the walls of Alathka would be hidden from sight when not moving.
-Many many MANY pathing issues
-Some typos
-Balancing issues
-After Nicolas joins the party, it would start an infinite loop showing the "-has joined the party" message forever.
-Opening the Questlog would display the Save Menu instead.
-Using an Herb would damage the player instead of healing (Don't ask.)
-Four doors in Alathka would link to a house in the town of Ley
-Skills lacking an animation have been remedied
-Giant Lizards and Snakes should no longer evade every attack
-Giant Lizards should no longer one-shot Sophia
-Resistances have been adjusted properly
-The cinematic specific maps would display the map name upon entering (bad.)
-Mason's face graphic common event would behave erratically during the cinematic in Redbrick Cave
-The fog image in Redbrick would persist when taking certain exits when it was supposed to be removed
-After the cinematic in Redbrick, the battle encounter would never start, causing the player to be permanently stuck in place.
-The guard in Alathka's custom path should no longer bring him into contact with the player
-Sophia's sprite should now properly erase after killing Guilio
-Several chests have had their Self Switches fixed so you could not loot them twice
-The pathing on the bridge to Ukwyre can now be properly passed after meeting Nicolas
-Fixed the issue where calling the save screen would set your party's health to 0. (Just... Just don't ask. Don't.)
-Other stuff as well

Yet to fix:

-I broke the opening cinematic AGAIN. It is possible to open the menu during the cinematic
-Skipping the opening cinematic will display the next map for a brief second then fade to black before resuming gameplay. Annoying, but nothing game-breaking
-The link events at the Alathka east gate don't activate on Player Touch. You have to use the Action Button [Only in the attached demo]
-The section of the quest where you must find Nicolas isn't very obvious as to what you have to look for**


*It may not be obvious to some, but when you have to get Ghed's letter, his home is in the SW portion of Ley. Across the room there is a book and paper on the dresser. Activate it and the quest will complete.

**There is a woman near the northern part of the town. Talk to her and she will mention to tell her if you find her child. In the northwestern corner there is a little kid. Talk to him once then go back to the woman. A dialogue between Mason and the woman should come up. Go to the pub in the SW corner and talk to the man in the top right corner.


To skip the two cinematics, press 'A' on the keyboard.

Only 38 maps are visitable currently. Several are cinematic specific, and a few others haven't been linked yet.


This is my first game ever in any of the RPG Makers and I hope I am doing a decent job at this. I especially want some feedback on the design of the maps and any balancing issues with enemies and actors. The current windowskin is the VX style, but I am planning on changing it soon.

I'll upload the screenshots in a moment.

Nothing exciting added, but several maps are now properly linked, the cinematics can be skipped without bugs (I hope), and the ugly VX windowskin is no more!

Cons: From my experience fairly slow upload. They delete your files after a month or so.

Cons: I just started using it, but they do not seem to delete files. Upload isnt as slow as 4Shared.

This isn't the only 'Sunny Forest' map I have, but it is IMO the best looking one. And the, uh... Largest  :shy:

It is intended to be a "Mini-Dungeon" within another map, and really the only way I could figure a logical transition between the two was adding a teleport marker, and frankly now that I think of it, just merging two tilesets probably would have been a better idea. The map in question is not shown here, fyi :P

I didn't really see any other place to post this, this is about as good as any. Feel free to move it if it's in the wrong location. While these links aren't 100% down to RPG Maker, the color scheme designer and Pictaculous Color Palette Generator may come in handy. The photoshop actions might too I guess....

Obsidian Dawn's Free Brushes
What it is:   Free for non-commercial use brushes for Photoshop and GIMP, the brushes include grunge scratches, and various effects and abstracts, splatters, and even ivy and spider webs.

Color Scheme Designer
What it is:   A web application that allows you to use a color wheel to generate a palette for use in web design or other uses.

Pictaculous
What it is:   Another web application that can even be used on the mobile phone. Upload a GIF, JPEG, or PNG and it will take the base colors and return five of them as color swatches for Photoshop.

50 Time Saving Photoshop Actions
What it is:   Links to 50 neat photoshop actions, including a pencil effect and a F.E.A.R. "Infection" effect. Worth a look, but most may not exactly be suitable for RMXP/RMVX. The Infection effect might be neat to be used on a tileset though :P

As mentioned earlier, downgrading to XP or upgrading to 7 is probably the best idea. I haven't tried Windows 7 so I cannot voice my opinions about it, and I have not gotten around to trying out RMXP or RMVX on my laptop (running Linux) yet either.

Yeah, as RMXP goes, the one thing I have yet to explore is scripting. I bought a book on programming in Ruby, but the more I think about it the more it baffles me. But hey, at least it's cleaner than C++  :naughty:

Late post...

But one thing I have noticed in eventing is when two tabs of an event meet the same conditions, it can lead to an infinite loop during a cutscene. With my cutscene, the player crosses an Event Touch tile. It moves over to the second tab which has a condition of a switch that the first tab turns on. The cutscene plays and then switches Self Switch A on to 'turn off' the cutscene. Now the player can move about, but when he moves over the tile that triggered the cutscene, it fires the event back up an plays the events all over again. Shortening it to two pages where Page 1 is the cutscene and Page 2 is a blank page requiring a switch to be turned on from the first page. This kept the events from looping endlessly via a flawed event layout.

Working on my XP project myself, trying to make the sunny field tileset useful, and not getting much success  :uhm:
Should I be ashamed to just merge two tilesets so it doesn't look noobish in design?

This should likely be more appropriate being posted in the Script Troubleshooting subforum, but it only came up with the most recent version of Tons of Scripts.

Thus far I have been using your pack with version 6.xb, and upon downloading 7.x (I had been absent in the RPG Maker for several months) found that each battle crashes the game upon my characters turn.

Script 'AddOn Pack 2' line 3814: ArgumentError occurred.

wrong number of arguments(0 for 1)

As the subject message implies, I have long visited this site but have not actually registered. Until now, of course. :)

I also visit RPG-Revolution quite often, but am still more of a lurker than an actual contributor. I am a regular over at the DAZ 3D forums however, with the same username I use here!

I do not have any real talents of note, but grasp things quickly and have a broad range of interests.
