So, I had some skull candy head phones that broke and some ear buds that broke too, I sent them into skull candy for RMA (cost like 14$ for shipping) and in return I got $69.99 to spend in skull candy's online store so what headphones should I get? I'm looking for comfortable for extended wear (8 hours +) and good quality sound.

I prefer ear buds, but I usually don't buy cheap ear buds, because their quality sound is crappy. The last ones I bought by Panasonic for about $18 were really good. If you are a music lover and are obsessed with high quality sound, you can always buy those big ones covering your whole ears. If you want to get a good pair of those with good sound and that they don't break quickly, I don't think you can get any proper ones under $50. There's my 2 cents.

The skull Candy Headphone I had were great, I'd had them for a long while. but then my sister spooked me while I was on my computer in the zone and I jumped up and ripped the code out of it's jack...

Don't know much about Skull Candy, but I can tell you Sennheiser HD 201 is a good deal. Doesn't have mic or volume control, though.

Sorry, sorry, Mic: microphone :)

EDIT: Damn, saw your edit after I posted my reply. Anyway, I also realized you'll have to stick to Skull Candy, so just ignore my suggestion :^_^':

Honestly? I can't really give you advice when you have to stick to skullcandy, because generally the first advice I give is "Stay the hell away from Skullcandy".
They are, both in sound quality and in physical quality, inferior, especially in relation to the prices, to an extend that I concider them fashion accessoiries, not headphones. For really good headphones, look for Ultrasone, Beyerdynamic or AKG, and if those are too expensive, try Panasonic, Sony, Sennheiser and the likes.
But yeah since you're limited to them, there isn't really a "right" choice.

Sennheiser HD 201. No matter how much it costs. They're fantastic.

That's an interesting opinion, most of my friends consider them to be some of the best you can get. but ya I'm basically getting these for free so I'm trying to get the best I can.

The same people who used iPod earbuds before, I assume? :P Nah, seriously. Even the expensive ones usually can't even compare to the cheapest of the companies I listed. Plus, Ultrasone has S-Logic.

Spaceman McConaughey

Oh my God, you just reminded me how much I was annoyed when my friend would brag about his iPod earbuds.

"Dude, these are the best you can get!"
"Hahaha, you paid so much for your earbuds but I got these superior ones for piratically free!"
"They come with the iPod, of course they're the best!"

And yeah, iPod earbuds are some of the worst I've ever used. They feel awful(almost painful) in your ears, sound sucks(for me, at least), and so on. Bleh.

I can say that my iPod ear buds were not among the worst that I used, but for freaking $70-$80 here in Croatia, the should be THE best. The ones I have now (Panasonic, $12) are better than the iPod ones used to be. :/ Of course I never paid $80 for new iPod ear buds, I got them with my iPod Touch. The best ear buds that I used so far were also from Panasonic for about $18. Also, the $12 Panasonic ones beat both the $10 Sony and $12 Sony ones. Ironically the $10 Sony ear buds are better than the $12 Sony ear buds, but I can't find them anywhere anymore. Stay away from Sony IMO.

No, These are the people who denounce IPod ear-buds as the trash they are and spend stupid amounts of money getting a new pair of headphones every two years, But your right they're pricey for the quality, presumably justified because they are a fashion statement. Me personally, I first got skull candy because I knew the name and it was what I would find just walking into the local radio shack. If I ever actually have $150 to spend to get good headphones I will, and I'll use that $150 to get headphones that I can use for the next decade.

But for now, all I have is skullcandy warranty points. So, I went a head and ordered these http://www.skullcandy.com/shop/g-i-shoe-white.html
EDIT: Or rather I WOULD order them if the system for applying warranty points to an order wasn't currently broken, apparently they will have it fixed in 24 hours. ya know I send in my warranty request two and half months ago, they received the broken items less than a weak later (I had the post office tell me when they were delivered). and I only got the points creditably to my account yesterday. and now I cant use them because the system is broken. This is taking a ridiculous amount of time. I likely WON'T be using skull candy again.

Skullcandy are usually only menioned for as a joke among audio engineers. I mean seriously, to  make it fair, take their "top notch" model. I can't even begin to imagine how they can sell something like that for 150€. I mean, even if you don't care about sound, look at that cable. It won't last, especially since there is a weakness around the volume control / mic thing (wtf). You currently get an Ultrasone Pro 650 for 120€.
Anyways, I'm done here. I just really dislike how people can fall for something like Skullcandy. Buy them if you need fashion accesoiries, not headphones. :P

QuoteAnd yeah, iPod earbuds are some of the worst I've ever used.

Not the worst, but certainly not worth the premium price.

QuoteI just really dislike how people can fall for something like Skullcandy.

I don't really dislike them. Not all people do obsessive research before buying a product you know, and some buys should be impulsive once in a while :)  I'm sure Ryex would research more the next time he buys audio accessories, but for now, since he's gonna be getting a replacement for free... I guess they can't be all too bad, if not audiophile-good!

QuoteSennheiser HD 201. No matter how much it costs. They're fantastic.

I can vouch for that. I've heard better, of course, but HD 201's VFM is almost unrivaled, IMO. They sound almost as good as my 2.1 speakers and they're very comfortable and light. But enough off topic from my side.

@Ryex: If you liked your old set, why not go for the same ones? Is the 2011 GI White Shoe more expensive? If so, congrats on the upgrade :D

Seems to have globally compatible compatible inline playback controls. That's convenient. It's the only thing I miss in my headphones. My keyboard doesn't have any media controls either, so yeah. Do tell us if they are good after you try them :)
