Corona SDK: http://www.anscamobile.com/corona/

Corona SDK is a fully featured Java based game development package for mobile platforms (Andriod and iOS) known for its ease of use and short development cycles  (we are talking hours or days here).  It is code based, but very simplified as physics, graphics, etc. are already implemented in a simple and efficient manner.  As these are the easiest platforms to make a profit on, I would definitely recommend this software to any of you interested in making money from your games.  The thing is, the software is not free.  It's $199/year for a single platform license, or $349/year for all platforms.  In reality this is a small price, as even a simple game concept can make thousands or even millions in a single year on mobile platforms with just a $0.99 price.

There is a free trial version that is fully featured for complete development, but does not allow you to publish your finished product.  Basically, you can toy around with the free trial until you are ready to publish your game, and then you can pay.

To be clear, I have no monetary gain associated with corona, and have no contract or anything.  I was simply talking with a developer that has used Corona, and he highly recommended that I take a look at it.  What can I say, I like what I saw.  Hopefully it allows some of you to take your games to the next level.
