This tutorial will teach you how to add a file type to you're Right Click->New Menu

Requirements

  • Administrator Rights

  • Willingness To Edit You're Computers Registry



When something is enclosed in "quotes" to type, don't type the quotes.

Step 1.  Create The New File Type Of You're Choice.

Step 2.  Move The File Type To C:\Windows\ShellNew

Step 3.  Open RegEdit.

Step 4.  In RegEdit open the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT directory.

Step 5.  You will see a list of file extensions, select the one you want.

Step 6.  Right Click on it and select New->Key

Step 7.  Rename the new key to "ShellNew"

Step 8.  Right Click on the new key and select New->String Value

Step 9.  Rename the new string value to "FileName"

Step 10. Right Click on the new string value and select Modify...

Step 11. Select The Text Field Under "Value data:"

Step 12. Type "C:\Windows\ShellNew\<new file.ext>" where <new file.ext> is the file you made in step one.

Step 13. Click OK.

Step 14. Exit RegEdit and restart you're computer.
