This is what Pokemon always should have been.

But I think somebody in the comments mentioned that the guy got a C&D letter from Nintendo. ._.

Yes that is how the pokemon should be, if Nintendo doesn't crush the creator then I would play the hell out of this ( if my laptop could run, it is a piece of crap)

I seen it has a alpha test available for download, and I may get it to try it.
Nice Find Blizzard.

A co-worker found it. But as I said, I think he already got a Cease & Desist letter from Nintendo so it will probably die before it comes out. ;_; If Nintendo was smart, they'd let him finish it, pay him $100000 for his trouble, take the game, polish it, then release it as their own and make millions.

I don't think they got a C&D letter yet, the indiedb page has an update from just a few days ago, unless he just got the letter within the last few days.

Spoofus

this makes me hope that Nintendo does something really good with the new pokemon games for 3ds (got one just for them sadly ;) )

if they want to ruin something that has such great potential as this.

Lobstrosity

Sorry to disappoint everybody, but I don't think he has received a C&D letter.
There is a Twitter page for the project: https://twitter.com/xatoku
Next update scheduled for July 14th. And as gameus said, it's unlikely unless he received the letter in the past two days in which case he probably would have stated so on the page.
Don't come any closer. I'm armed... with SCIENCE!

Spoofus

then that is good new indeed, we may yet play a pokemon game that will get completed and be really great.

Just throwing this out there, the engine is very well done so far. Loved the very small amount of gameplay that the alpha has to offer. You can fight other Pokemon and catch them as well. I think you can fight online with people too, you can run your own server. I haven't tested that out myself yet.

Blizzard

I personally think that the battle system still needs some work. Currently it feels like it could get boring quickly.

Well, it's not like the regular turn based one is just so much more exciting, haha :P
Does nintendo own like all the rights to pokemon? I thought it was an anime or something o.o

G_G

It's an Anime, Video Game, and Trading Card Game franchise. And unfortunately, there were cool indie games and fan games that got cease and desist letters, even though the projects were completely free. Nintendo can be real jerks sometimes.

Spoofus

Nintendo does those things out of fear that the indie games will be better than what they could/would do.
a non commercial greedy money loving mind tends to stick to what made them millions, and they probably know that fan games such as these will give what the players/fans really want in a game, and this looks to be something people have been wanting in a pokemon game for a long time.

This is also the same reason why a Pokemon MMO hasn't been made yet and probably never will.

Well idk if you have seen it, but http://pokemmo.eu/
is actually an extremely good 2d pokemon mmo. I have an account on it actually o.o but I haven't played it in months.

What if nintendo hasn't actually put anyone down, but the indie game makers simply couldn't afford/live up to what they promised?

Blizzard

Nintendo is quite rigorous with these kinds of things. They even send C&D letters to fan websites. I'd say that they make an estimation about who can make a good product or if somebody actually makes a good product and those are the only guys getting C&D letters. They couldn't care less about the mediocre fan generated products. Hence you are right that none of the stuff that Nintendo hasn't killed could live up to the standards. Nintendo knew it couldn't live up to it so they didn't even bother.

This looks like it has a lot of potential - a fun new twist on the formula. I'll be sure to keep an eye on it. I've always found the Pokemon games to be fun; I even enjoyed the newer ones, though I still like the original couple of generations of actually Pokemon the best.

(I'm hoping that by not mentioning any sort of C&D that Nintendo's lawyers will just sort of fade away....)

Vell

There are lots of good, valid reasons that companies issue C&D orders - reasons that make it so they pretty much have to or invalidate their own copyright.

but yeah it does suck.
