The game responsible for the first video game crash in history, and often considered the worst game in history.  There has always been speculation as to whether or not the unsold cartridges were buried and sealed to hide the terrible decisions by atari.

Lol, people come up with wierd stories. It'll be interesting to find out if it's true though.

Spaceman McConaughey

Why is this in general discussion for RPG Maker?

The stories that people come up with pale in comparison only to the crazy things people actually do.  Perhaps like burying 10,000,000 copies of a crappy game.

Update: story turned out to be True!  At least to some degree...

E.T. Found In New Mexico Landfill

Quote"One of the most infamous urban legends in video games has turned out to be true. Digging in Alamogordo, New Mexico today, excavators discovered cartridges for the critically-panned Atari game E.T., buried in a landfill way back in 1983 after Atari couldn't figure out what else to do with their unsold copies. For decades, legend had it that Atari put millions of E.T. cartridges in the ground, though some skeptics have wondered whether such an extraordinary event actually happened. Last year, Alamogordo officials finally approved an excavation of the infamous landfill, and plans kicked into motion two weeks ago, with Microsoft partnering up with a documentary team to dig into the dirt and film the results. Today, it's official. They've found E.T.'s home--though it's unclear whether there are really millions or even thousands of copies down there."

LMAO! Now I wonder how many there are. But it could also be just a PR stunt. Though, I wouldn't know who could benefit from this kind of PR stunt.

OMG, WANT! Seriously, thanks for sharing this. But here is a higher quality version of the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiz95K1ngiI

I looked it up and Wikipedia says that it might be done by the end of the year.

...eeeew, AVGN.

Give me a JonTron movie over that any day, brohampshire.

Also, I bet you're all wondering why they haven't dug up my porn stash, right?
I beat them to it, that's why. I don't want people seeing it... bunch of fucked up porn in there, I tell you.
Nothing illegal, just very weird.

Crasger

It's not just ET Carts there.

ET wasn't really the only thing that caused the Video Game Crash. If I remember, there was a video about the Video Game Crash. It was a number of factors, really, and we shouldn't be pinning it all on one game.

Blizzard

No, E.T. just marked the final moment of the crash. It was the straw that broke that camel's back. A 4 ton straw, but still a straw.
