Just on the news like 5 mins ago, apparently there's a new worm going that no-one knows what it's supposed to be do exactly. It's called Conficker C

Quote from: CNNThe malicious program already is thought to have infected between 5 million and 10 million computers.

Quote from: CNNThe program's code is also written to evolve over time and its author appears to be making updates to thwart some of the Conficker Cabal's attempts to neuter the worm.

It's supposed to disable auto-matic updates. CA said they found a peice of code that showed the worm would activate on April the 1st.

Microsoft even offered a 250k reward to anyone who has info leading to the creator of the worm!

Also once the worm is in your computer, it connects to a link back to its origin and waits for more orders.

Some one took April fools day to seriously... <_<'

fugibo

Its not April Fools. Its been out since October. And its just Conficker, Conficker-C is the most recent strain.

And this is serious. Noone knows what the crap its gonna do. This could take out the internet. All of it.

Here's to staying up all night to watch network activity logs to see the fun happen :P

Hellfire Dragon

I just hope I don't get it... :P Lucky I backed up most of my stuff to my other HDD yesterday :D
Also I hope I come across something to find the creator, I'd like that 250,000 :^_^':

fugibo

Good that you backed it up. MS released a tool to remove, though. You can Google it and cure yourself :P

SolstICE

just checked and not infected whew. hope it doesnt do anything super major to people :(

G_G

I heard about it as well watching the news O.o and I dont have another HD all I have are 2, 1 gb flashdrives. So like how is it possible to obtain the virus like how would you get it?

RoseSkye

You know what'll be evil? If Microsoft had a sense of humor.

"Ahaha.. The virus doesn't exist we made a harmless code and then put a bounty out on ourselves. April Fools bitches."

fugibo

You get it by not patching windows, then getting unlucky.

HAHA, we told you to switch to Linux, but you never believed us... j/k. This isn't that serious, just download the tool from MS. I think it switches from infection mode to w/e mode tomorrow, so yeah.

Vell

I wonder if im infected. If i am, I wonder what it's gonna do. NOTE: IM NOT GONNA GO UN-ME-LIKE TOMORROW.

shdwlink1993

Let's hope that the host isn't infected.

And maybe that the FBI is infected. That would be nice. :D

If it disalbes automatic updates, then it's a good virus IMO. :D

Tazero

Auto updates....Mine have been off for at least 7 months now :o I hate them. xD

@susys: It doesn't work on Conficker. Welcome to the twenty-first century, when viruses hack the registry and n00bs can't fight back.

A w00t, it comes 0n!1n3 today (I feel like 1337 I'm so happy :P)
Our school might just lose half its computers :P

RoseSkye

What does the conficker virus do? Nothin' (a.k.a watching you masturbate)

shdwlink1993

As far as Wikipedia seems to say (since NOTHING else I'd check actually tells me what it's doing. They conveniently stopped updating for this month, just as the big risk they've been mentioning finally was unleashed.), The new version (which everyone connected to the internet and having any version of Conficker now has or is now downloading) does not spread (which sounds really stupid to me). It downloads from 500 sites from a random list of 50,000 with over 110 TLDs (.com, .org, .edu, etc) (I don't know what it's downloading), kills all anti-malware processes it detects once a second, disables auto-update, and prevents you from opening websites related to anti-malware or auto-update.

And then there's the odd part, the new thing that people really don't understand yet: It creates a peer-to-peer network and shares some data with other Conficker "enhanced" computers. People aren't sure what it's doing with that, but that's the big interesting thing none of the others have been doing. So, that is, from what I can tell, basically the point of this entire virus: sharing... something.

The virus is going to make everyone's computer explode all at the same time causing the earth to crack in half!! WE GONNA DIE!!! :o

It stopped spreading because:
It has 10 Million already infected. It doesn't need any more.

Disabling Automatic Updates:
Then you all probably have Conficker. It attacked only those who didn't update. And yet people still complain about security 0_o I mean, M$ still sucks at it, but you have to give them a chance.
