Sally's Mapping Tutorial Database

Pokemon Cave:
Spoiler: ShowHide
Step 1:
Build the outside ring with the top of the mountain tile, also put down the ground tile all over, all on layer2.

make it at least 7 tiles on each side, if your using the Pokemon Essentials pokemon starter kit.

Step 2:
put in the tiles for the pathway, like so, this is how i do mine.

this part is more difficult, but after awile you will learn to do it in less then 30seconds like i did.

Step3:
continue with adding the wall tiles, make them look good add randomess and make it seem like you really tried, you canot rush a cave.
this part will take about 20-30minuts maybe more depending on how long it takes you and how big the map size is.
on 3rd layer.

Step4:
Now we will be adding some distractions, to disctract the fact that theres open spaces, try to do something like this,
Alright this one didnt go so well for this step. not as much open space as i thought was going to happen.

Step5:
Now to add layers!
just add more and more of the wall tiles untill you get a depth feel, i say 3layers is good, maybe in some spaces 4.
Note: This takes the longest to do.

Thats pretty much it, just add props and doors and ladders and what ever you need.

finished projects:
Cave[74,83]: (took 45mins)

Aqua

Very informative! :D

Seriously though, why'd you post this with nothing in it except the title and an incorrect bbcode?

G_G

Sally

Sally

Thank you very much,

Blizzard

2 hours is still quite a lot. o.o;

Sally

i screwed it up so i  had to fix it, pretty much like if you were doing a map and you used the wrong tiles? then you had to re do it, all of it and then if you acidently saved it all messed up...

Blizzard

I can do a 100x100 map in RMXP with full details in 2 hours. Mapping on the wrong layer usually throws me back only 5-10 minutes. 2 hours is still a lot even for making 2 maps like this.

Sally

yeah i know but the rmxpwalls r more simple,
what one is simpler?
Spoiler: ShowHide

With one: you place the walls once

With 2: you have to use layers of the walls, or it looks very bad.

but who knows maybe i think the pokemon one is more simpler than the rmxp becouse of how i like to map.

Blizzard

You should stop trying so hard, Sally.

Proving that you are a "fast" mapper. In fact all the proving together. Relax.

I think she he is trying to say is its harder to map pokemon maps.

Sally

indeed, but sorry if i offended you in trying to prove myself.

you never said what you think of it.

Blizzard

Looks quite alright for VX mapping (seeing that I don't like VX mapping). It definitely looks better than the mapping in Pokemon Blue/Red/Yellow, though.

Sally

its xp, not vx. but thanks, and uhm was that a complement? O.o

Blizzard

Definitely. As I said, to me it looks better than the mapping in the oldest Pokemon versions. I pretty much think the mapping there was close to terrible. xD

Sally

yeah it was... but it was 'good' to what was out back then :P

Blizzard

No that good. Lufia 2 had way better mapping and that game is older than Pokemon if I remember right.
Anyway, let's stop being offtopic. o.o;
