I also like the idea of the boss reacting differently based on factors like the characters in your party, or whether you've acquired a specific key item or not.

I left that for Rydiax and his "brain" in the dungeon right after the one where you battle against Grid Stalker. Rydiax brain uses status powerups and attacks and healing while Rxdiax himself takes over the attacking. Of course, those two bosses are available in the full game only.
