SDK, what does it do?

This  will probably be taken as a joke, but what does SDK actually do? It seems like all it does is cause incompatibility issues.

In theory, it's supposed to provide a modified base of the original game's development environment to assist script writers in developing more compatible scripts, more quickly.

SDKs in game design are not a new concept, and generally tend to work out pretty well.

RMXP's SDK is an exception to the the rule. In reality, you pretty much hit the nail on the head. It essentially causes additional compatibility issues without offering any tangible benefits in return.

Good SDKs should provide a developing environment on top of the default one that enables the user to create more complex systems more quickly.  In other words, good SDKs add new functionality without decreasing old functionality  The infamous RMXP SDK, for no apparent reason, is not built on top of default RMXP stuff, but rather overwrites it.  This is an example of stupidity, as the new functionality comes at the price of the old functionality.

SDK = Software Development Kit.
RMXP SDK = RMXP Standard Development Kit.

It's not a standard and it's not a development kit. IMO the name is a complete joke.

In my opinion, it is sorta like Socialism.
Sounds good, but works like shit.
I always de-SDK any script I find that uses it.
I am done scripting for RMXP. I will likely not offer support for even my own scripts anymore, but feel free to ask on the forum, there are plenty of other talented scripters that can help you.

it is EXACTLY like socialism in only one way... in which case it is only sorta like socialism...
any way like socialism it is great intheory but horrid in practice and just don't work

I'd have soo much to say to this, but it'd be offtopic.

Anyways, the SDK was a ggod idea in general, but just didn't work out too well. Also, if you want to use scripts from thid forum, you shouldn't use the SDK, as it it incpmpatible with most of them.

OK. Is there anything good about the SDK at any level?
Do you like ambient/electronic music? Then you should promote a talented artist! Help out here. (I'm serious. Just listen to his work at least!)
