Increase attack without the need of changing weapons

I want to make it so that your attack power and stuff increases WITHOUT the need of equipping new weapons. That way, I can simply check
the "fixed" slot when configuring actors.  (the game won't be boring because I'm focusing on the use of skills, while the actor only can wield one weapon)

I've searched using the "search result thing" but I haven't found what I'm looking for.

If this exists, can anyone link me to it.

Usually increasing strength will increase attack damage. Or you could try to use elements if you wanted fixed values. Or you can use a status effect that increases the attack value which would create the same effect as if the character had a stronger weapon.

I don't know, but for some reason, it seems like everytime I attempt to increase a character's strength, even by the use of items, the attack of the weapon never increases.

How many strength points should I add in order to increase the ATK of a weapon. I'm going to continue playing around with it, maybe I messed something up along the lines.

The attack of the weapon doesn't increase, the attack of the player does (when using status effects).

I'd do a work around.  Even if you check fixed for equipment, I *believe* you can still force swap weapons through an event.  In other words, have several weapon IDs where all weapons have the same name/icons/etc and the only difference is the ATK.

Magus

I've done that in my previous game, pain in the but.. and since I'm creating a brand new MMO, that has 8 actors in total and the fact that's its Blizz-abs, and everyone character has weapon sprites, this would be a huge pain. But I'll do it when it comes down to the point where I have no choice.

Isn't there anyway I can increase the attack of the weapon. The player is useless without the weapon. Maybe the weapon should be leveling up instead of the player D: Like Blizz's Exp will still increase and all, but the experience is for the weapon instead of the player.

What about changing the battle algorithm so that a player's attack is dependent on only strength, and not wpn atk?

@Lethal-Yarn Wat. Okay, that makes sense, but there's a slight problem D: I'm not a scripter, so if I attempt to change something, I could destroy avoiding the words "fuck up the whole game" the entire game.

Well... While typing this, Blizzard Ninja'd me, and his idea is what i've searched for through the site's search thing. Only I've failed to find one...but the search is still in progress, so don't call me a n00b just yet.

@Nawm: I'm not either but you can sorta figure it out through logic/guessing.  First backup your game (or at least the script data) before trying this.

Go to Game_Battler 3
Go to line 51, you'll find:
      self.damage = atk * (20 + attacker.str) / 20

That's the algorithm for damage.  Just change to whatever you want it to be.  For example:
      self.damage = (20 + attacker.str) / 20

That should work (even though I didn't test it myself, but I know back then when I was more active with RMXP several years ago I messed around with this area a lot to make my own battle algorithm because I hated the default one.

EDIT: Though you'd probably have to modify the menu screen to remove all traces of weapon attack since this is pretty much removing that stat from the battle algorithm.

Magus

It's not that I want to stat, I just want my characters to keep the same weapon throughout the entire game.
By any chance, can anyone link me to a weapon level script? Google honestly failed miserably.

A bright light can either illuminate or blind, but how will you know which until you open your eyes?

Shining Riku

You can directly change the power of a weapon in-game with this script call:

$data_weapons[ID of Weapon].atk = New value

for example: $data_weapons[1].atk = 10000

You can do it multiple times, and have the game check the player's lvl with a variable to determine what strength the weapon has.

Or set up an item that calls a common event that raises the weapon's power. I could make a demo or something to show you if you like.

Magus

Thanks @jragyn00

@Shining Riku: I'll look into it

Blizzard

That won't work as it doesn't save the atk change. Better use NAMKCOR's script.

Shining Riku

I....did not know that Blizz D:

Thanks for telling me, seriously. I'm gonna revise a few of my event systems altering weapons like that so the data is updated after a player resumes their save file.

I don't know if NAMKCOR's script would work with my ABS project...it's already saturated with scripts XDDD

Blizzard

It should. I think NAMK even original made it for use with Blizz-ABS in a game of his.
