No deadline per se, but do try and work on it if you get a free moment; I'd rather have them sooner or later so I can begin serious work on the game.

Whatever you can do is fine. I hopefully can find people willing to do the ones that you can't or don't have time to do. I might even try spriting a few myself, though the quality no doubt would be quite lacking when compared to those done by better spriters than myself.

It doesn't really matter; if I had to chose, I'd say modern, but it doesn't make too much of a difference. Anything can happen on the internets, so we have a little leeway when it comes to style.
