100% Norton. I remember my first anti-virus.

@Sub: Norton doesn't even detect the most Common USB stick viruses. I remember one time when I took some stuff from a collegue and as soon as I plugged it into my PC, NOD detected it. I told that guy he had a virus and he wouldn't believe me. "That's impossible. I have Norton Blabla-Ultimate-Editon-whatever and paid a nice amount for it" We put the stick back into his PC without cleaning and it didn't detect a thing. Back into mine, NOD's still detecting it. I remove it, put it back into his, then we even scanned the stick, still nothing. Finally when we put it back into mine, the virus is back. So much to Norton.
This happened recently.

Most free anti-viruses wouldn't detect the USB stick virus as well. The currently widest spread virus type and half of the anti-viruses don't detect it. Just laughable.

EDIT: When I come to think of it, you should probably get an anti-virus that actually does its job and scan your PC. You might as well be infected without even knowing.

I don't use antivirus software.  My old computer, which I never used antivirus on, lasted 6 years with no problems (it's still fine, but I upgraded because it was getting out of date).

I'm convinced that all the popular anti-virus programs treat other files as viruses, or install extra viruses on your computer, just to make it seem like you need their product more.  On my parent's computer, for example, on which they have McAfee, they had 98 viruses in one month.  All my parents do is use email and read the news.

@winkio: It's not impossible. Create a market where none is, eh? >.< Though, from my experience it was the opposite. At one moment my computer started acting funny and when I installed Norton, it found Jeefo. So I got the anti-virus program and got rid of it. I got rid of Norton as well back then. As for NOD 32 I have nothing to say. It never detected viruses out of the blue. I was either downloading a really suspicious torrent (e.g. a Zelda - Parallel Worlds torrent was infected), I was about to download a crack or a hacking tool or somebody infected my memory stick again. Other than that, it doesn't detect anything. There were a few interesting ocassions where I almost caught a virus from a local network, but luckily my shared folder is not writable. NOD even caught it once before it happened to actually access my shared folder. I showed NOD's message to a collegue and we laughed. I also tried to netsend the IP where the virus came from. IDK if the infected PC ever got the message that it has AIDS. xD

I can also recommend Bitdefender and Kaspersky. Though, those two are resource heavy and Kaspersky can be a bitch with automation. e.g. it would ask me each time I wanted to connect to a WiFi network even though I already marked it as trusted network. It even tells me that it's trusted, but still asks me if I want to connect. xD

I personally prefer NOD because it's very lightweight compared to others. I'm talking about v2.7, of course. I didn't like v3.0, it was ruggish. In the end, whatever you use, just stay away from Norton and maybe some of the free anti-viruses. As I already said, I know a lot of people who like to use AVG. It's one of the better free ones.

Yeah, the only 'negative' thing is that you have to use Windows Firewall, and I just don't like stuff from Bill Gates other than Windows itself. My father uses an illegal version of Adobe, he had to upgrade Windows Firewall or something, and the illegal version began screaming that he should buy a legal version...

When i get 1 i might have to get Kaspersky. I looked at Best Buy and besides Norton there was only Kaspersky and Trend.


edit: i thought I'd post saying that since my virus detector is out until I can get another one I won't be able to support any of my scripts.

I still will post just won't be as active I use my ps3 / psp / mom's iPod to post just sort of a headache to post on these

get bitdefender. its good. my brother mistook the delete for quarantine over the windows files... so it got deleted and the laptop did not work anymore. but we fixed it?

I didn't see bitdefender at any stores I don't like buying things online
