so for now we can call it 'Sephris'

Prologue,
Remembrance

This is a story of misery and unhappiness. Long ago the people only believed in Angels and the Holy Father, but now, there is confirmed existence of at least one angel. She was discovered one day.

This being, known as Sephri was just a normal human, until one day when something went horribly wrong. Sephri was caught in an unfortunate circumstance, and around her people she knew, people she loved were dying, one at a time, and she never was touched.

Soon it would be, that her own rage was to be wrought. Her entire being changed, and soon peoples' lives were being cut short by the vengeful wrath of a teenager scarred by wars worst evils.

People recognized her for what she was, an Angel of death, and they feared her for it, and despite anything they tried to do they couldn't stop her, they even sent an entire country's military up against her, only to have it be destroyed by the Angel.

Wings a black midnight, eventually her existence was seen to be destroyed, and her life ended, and Death's hands clutched the Angel of Death which had plagued humanity. People thanked their Holy Father. Others, wondered.

Why had the Holy Father sent one of his subjects to kill them? Why had he left them to lose many of their loved ones and soldiers?

Some had lost their faith.

And one, finding a True Text, knew what was to happen.

He read, and deciphered, and understood, and he knew.

God, the Holy Father, all such things, are false. Angels, however, exist. But not as Divine Messengers of His Will.

They were the Ultimate, the Powerful, not necessarily the Right, but the True. The Ultimate, Powerful, True, beings of the planet.

Each one represented a different thing.

The man knew, he'd have to warn humanity of the coming darkness. The coming death. Sephris was just the beginning, the warning. He had to extend the warning to let the devastated race know.

That was a few thousand years ago.

We hear about this crazy man who found a 'True Text' and said that God doesn't exist, and that Angels would kill us all.

Sephris was killed, and along with her the chance for future Angels, true, we don't know what in her DNA caused her to be able to be that powerful, but she was, and she died, and a dark chapter in humanity's existence was ended.

We still hear of this idiots rambling and idiocy.

His most famous quote is something we read on a daily basis.

'God does not exist, HE NEVER DID! Sephris was a warning! WE MUST HEED THAT WARNING! Sephris will come again! HUMANITY WONT BE ABLE TO DEFEND ITSELF!' and it continues from there, it was a whole speech.

But we in school wonder, why? If the guy was such a kook, why learn about him?

Alright everyone gets it, the guy was stupid, and by then, Atheism and Polytheism had been eliminated, but just Sephris's showing was enough to bring back Atheism, and then this man reversed the effects of the Sephlaron Project.

Sephlaron Project?

That was where a man used science to prove that God exists, a single God only, he proved not only that it was possible, but that it HAD to have happened. The Sephlaron Project was incredible, there was not a single person that could disprove it.

Until Sephris that is.

So were currently in the year 4587 KX.

KX stands for Kina Xelra, the year that marked humanity's return to magic. Kina Xelra is actually two words from an ancient language that means 'Mark of Magic' there is no record of how humanity has that information, as, although we have all the words from the language, only the two have been properly translated.

And so, we, the humans of year 4587 KX learn about that fool.

And yet.

Nowadays.

Some of us have to wonder.

Was that idiot right?

There was that one city that was completely destroyed with no survivors, and there seems to be no explanation for how it happened. It just suddenly became a ruin overnight.

But yet, the loss of one city has not impacted the world, it was a useless city, just full of people, nothing important coming out, only the normal going in.

And that was years ago.

And that concludes today's lesson.

See you tomorrow, students.

Chapter 1,
   Coming Day

She is a beautiful young woman, learning the magic of Ice. Mercuron, they call the Channelers of the magic of Ice. Channelers is a vague term tied to all users of magic. A Mercra is a single Channeler of the Mercuron. She, of course, feels she has something more to her life than being a simple Mercra. Or even a simple Channeler.

She believes she will be a Raindrop. A title awarded to the more powerful Mercuron. The 'Higher Titles' are all named after something miniscule in the particular magic they are of. Pebble is to the ones who learned the magic of Earth. Venrian they are called, collectively, and a Venny is a singular Venrian. Often, they are just called Vennies, though seldom by Venrian.

I tell you this, for, she has a Venrian friend. Rather, that is to say, she has a friend who is learning to be a Venrian. As she is studying to be a Mercuron.

She has a name, Aile Shara. It was long thought she was more suited to other magics than the one of Ice. But she had been adamant about it, and she was shaping up to be quite skilled at her chosen magic.

At the moment, she was in the middle of a lecture her teacher was giving. Aile disliked lectures; they rarely taught anything on magic. But she knew the necessity of common knowledge as much as all the rest of the students.

"Sephris was killed, and along with her..." Aile had about memorized this lecture however; it was Coming Day, the day everyone was supposed to remember the terror Sephris wrought. Also the day every teacher is supposed to give a lecture on it. A shorter one than is usual, indeed, but there was little variance; the teachers only got freedom with a bit in the end.

Ever the intelligent pupil, Aile had already memorized the point when they would reach their own input; she'd sat through three of these lectures already today. She was thinking about idle thoughts while an inner clock counted down in her head. Nobody in the class made any comment that she was swinging her little necklace back and forth in front of her eyes and making ticking sounds in imitation of one of those watches her father used; it was a habit everyone was used to. Everyone had such a habit. It was simply commonplace.

"KX stands for Kina Xelra..." Everyone knew that already, as well, but it was customary if not exactly necessary to provide that little tidbit. Aile lifted her eyes, and put her necklace back around her neck. It was a simple thing, made of some tough cloth for a string, made in a loop with a knot in the back, and a spot with a little ruby on the end of it, that hung far enough above her bosom that it didn't draw attention to it, and not so high that it was unnoticable.

"Class. Sephris was an angel, a demonicly savage angel whose pure mind was tainted by the loss of her loved ones while masquerading as a human. Angels are, by nature, a caring people, and though one brought with her such terror, if another angel shows up, He will have sent her to us in safety, a guidance to His will." Coming Day was also called Fool's Day by some, because it was also the day everyone remembered that fool. Aile herself had no real opinion on Sephris, though she tended to side with her friend's teacher. DNA could tell a lot about a person. Aile herself was learning how to Convince her own DNA that a different look would be preferrable for a while. A difficult magic, but one only Mercuron could perform. They made great spies, though short-lived ones. Convincing was temporary.

"Forget what some fools say about that fool being correct about Sephris being a warning to humanity's downfall. Yes, she was a warning. But a warning not to fall to sin, not a warning of our fall. Class. Sephris could have been avoided if sinners didn't run amok back then." Aile certainly put little stock in this type of man's words. They often failed to represent any proof. Mercurons were heavy on the proof. Well, not all of them. It wasn't a defining trait, really, just something a good number of Mecurons Aile met thought.

"Dismissed."
