A stealth minigame based on time.

Is there a way to make a minigame where the player will need to sneak past a person. But the player will need to stop for a period amount of time when he hears the sound of the person. Is there some way to make it so that the sound is random?

Start out with a variable, that randomly takes numbers between X-X, and if that variable is Z, the sound will play.
Example:
X-X = 1-5
Z = 1
If X = Z > Sound
