I too fear it'll be another Microsoft, but I'm hoping that won't happen for a long time. I think Google won't become like that anytime soon, because it generates most of its profits from ads, and I don't see much scope for unlawful use of Google's services there. The consumers of Google's services don't have the option of ripping Google off, or stealing from it, so Google doesn't have to resort to aggressive strategies. With companies like MS, it's different. They generate profits from software products and they're shit scared of piracy, which is rampant.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the original topic. Sony suing people who watched the video is absurd, but suing the George Hotz makes sense. But asking him to surrender ALL his computer hardware including CD/DVD ROMs? Again, absurd. If anything, I see it as Sony's temper tantrum and/or a desperate attempt to scare pirates. Whether they are really in that desperate a situation is a different question (I think they are not).

You are saying this as if Coca Cola is the only one violating human rights. Every big company in the world that manufactures stuff in "third world" countries abuses their workers. Do you know how many violations there were during the production of Apple's iPhone? Do you know how many violations there were during the production of your PC? No you don't because you don't care. If you wouldn't be using anything that was produced by violating human rights at least once, you would have to turn off all electric and electronic devices, take off your shoes and your clothes and stop eating.

Good point there. And i too think it's just stupid what Sony is trying to do, but go out of business? I don't think that they should just yet.  A little boycott to give them a warning not to go over the top. I mean this is getting out of hands but, let's stop for a moment to think the real reason why Sony is doing this. They are not doing as well as they would like in the console markets, so they put up this show to spark peoples interests and get them to buy it out of curiosity. Sure this is stupid, and i'm not defending Sony for that. I am however defending them in that if Sony were to quit business, the sort of 'balance of power' would shift too greatly to Nintendo and especially Microsoft.

Imagine MS running most of the show. It needs a counterbalance and Nintendo is not fully capable to keep MS in restraints. This is due to them having softened over times. And since there is no upcoming new or returning console makers, the balance would shift to MS, and they would be able to control most of the market, especially in the US. Without Sony, most games would be Xbox/PC only or Nintendo only, and not so much multi-console as they are now, thanks to the balance.

And for now, i can't make up more arguments. But if the need arises, i will make more...

I know that no big company is completely clean, but there is a difference between not paying the workers enough and  "179 major human rights violations of Coca-Cola's workers, including 9 murders." Your way of argueing is completely retarded. Just because all companies aren't completely clean means that we are not allowed to stop one / many who go way overboard with it? Besides, I was just putting Branden's statement into relation.

Even worse, Nike justifies the low wage and horrible working conditions because it's "normal" in those countries. Yeah, exploiting people is normal, sure. 13 year olds working in their factories is ok, sure.

Saying that you won't buy Coca Cola products just because somebody actually found evidence that an exact number of people has been killed, yet buying products from other companies because no exact numbers were made public or because they are rumored to mistreat their workers is just plain hypocritical.

Besides, whenever I hear of a company doing things like that, I stop buying their products. I have a pretty long lists of companies to boycott. So if I wouldn't buy Nike products to begin with, I would have stopped now.

If you have your list and you judge who you put on that list and who not, then Branden is entitled to do the same. You are not an absolute measure of what is right and what is wrong. If you put somebody on your list, it doesn't mean everybody else has to. And this is not logic, this is personal opinion so stop trying to pass it on as logic. In your eyes Branden's opinion may be "flawed", but you are everybody is entitled to their opinion. If he wants to continue buying Coca Cola products, that's his thing.

I didn't boycott Coca Cola because this topic is about Sony. And to be honest, at the time I did not know exactly WHAT Coca Cola did.
But in all honesty, I'd rather not discuss anything other than what Sony is doing, in this topic. Can we please stay on topic, before this gets locked, everyone? If I offended you, Sub, I'm sorry. I didn't know Coca Cola murdered people.

BACK ON TOPIC NOW, THANKS.Sony taking away George's personal possessions incredibly unnecessary, I agree. What they are even doing to him to begin with, is unnecessary. He just made a jailbreak, and is getting in trouble for what OTHER people did with it.
Sony should just open their fucking eyes and accept that people want more from their multi-hundred dollar gaming system, THEY payed for. If I want to put on a homebrew application, like a text editor, I can fucking do it if I please. Sony is just afraid of people making their systems better, and never do THAT themselves. This is why the PSP started out at a firmware of v1.0 and is now at a firmware version of 6.37 and has not changed at all, save for a few insignificant new features. It's pathetic.
