I used RPG Maker 2003 for a few weeks and switched to XP a week ago (I still have the trial). I didn't like the battle system in 2k3 and kept reading all the cool things you can do with scripts in XP so I downloaded the trial approximately 8 days ago. Xp's battle system was a step in the right direction but the first person view is dumb. I like CTB, Tactical turn based, and ABS. I was trying to learn how to use GubiD's Tactical battle system, a CTB system, and Blizz ABS pretty much at the same time. Blizz ABS was the first system I got to work. I have been trying to learn how to use it for a week. Progress is slow. I can't access the manual it came with because it says "Navigation to the webpage was canceled" or it is in a foreign language. I hit a weird error 2 or 3 days ago that absolutely stumped me so I posted my problem here and am working on solving it. I haven't been able to make a game yet because I am still figuring out how scripts work. I think you people are geniuses for understanding how this stuff works. I am continually frustrated using scripts. I have wanted to be a game maker for a lon g time and my desire to make games pushes me through all the problems I am having (computers hate me).

Welcome~

Um... you should really try to get the manual to work; it's a very helpful tool that should be able to teach you tons about Blizz-ABS
Try taking a screenshot of the "foreign language" and posting it up here to see what we can do to help.

Welcome to chaos!

we're geniuses? well I used to think the same. but once I got the hang of it I realized that it's not as hard as it first seemed.  in any case don;t try to tackel to much at once. you'll just get over whelmed and it won't be fun any more. try to focus on one thing at a time. make a bunch of short demos with really simple cheesy story lines just to learn how to set up the type of battle you wan't ect. lean the skills you need one at a time and slowly build up you need to make the game you want.
I no longer keep up with posts in the forum very well. If you have a question or comment, about my work, or in general I welcome PM's. if you make a post in one of my threads and I don't reply with in a day or two feel free to PM me and point it out to me.<br /><br />DropBox, the best free file syncing service there is.<br />

Success! I opened the manual! (+50 XP). Turns out my computer was blocking it so I gave it a talking to and it cooperated (Thanks guy who posted the link to that tech blogg which helped me fix it... I don't remember his screen name but he is a moderator). That is a good idea about starting small and working up to bigger things. I think I will make a short mystery game where you are trying to solve a mystery in a mansion or something and limit to a weapon or two and a skill or two, 1 party member, and a handful of enemies. I am still having that weir method error but now that I can log in here again, I will continue to read the manual and push through it. I'm going to go back to my other topic and post the script section I edited. Thanks!

@Ryex

That advice is priceless. I went the n00b route of trying to make a huge game: Project Paradox II. It never came to fruition.

Then later (but still recently) when I still didn't know what I was doing I tried another full game: Sandbox Island. Bit off more than I could chew.

Still later, but not so ago, I began to tackle short requests, and what do you know? Improvement. However slight. :haha:

The permanent solution for your problem would be to stop hanging out with stupid people.

Make several 5-20 minute games. Merge them together. Gold.

That's actually a very good idea!

Anyway, welcome, melikeyrpg :D!
