SMF Password Encryption Method?

Whats the SMF password encryption method? I was thinking, if the forum registers you into the game, why can't the game register you in the forum? I seriously digged through all the files and couldn't find what I was looking for.

I think it's MD5 or SHA. I remember some pieces of the SMF code mentioning MD5.
