New Projects / opkij's yet unnamed project
January 16, 2016, 01:51:03 pm
I promised to make a thread about this a while ago...

This is just a small project and the only real purpose is for me to actually complete a project, test out RPGmaker XP (my first time using it) and most of all improve
my "pixel skills". I still have a long road ahead but I hope that you like the sprites and tiles so far!

The game is not really an RPG, it's just a simple "walking simulator" where the main goal is to find the way out of a labyrinth. I was dissapointed after seeing the movie
Pans Labyrinth, I needed more labyrinth and started to create this one, hehe. I won't spoil the details for now but it should only take about 30 minutes to get to the end
but of course there is a little twist at the end and as you can see there are some NPCs as well. Not 100% about exiting a labyrinth in other words.

The game will have quite a dark and melancholy feeling and I will lower the brightness etc and of course there will be rain but it is easier to work like this:

In-game printscreen 1

In-game printscreen 2

In-game printscreen 3

Just an overview in the editor

I might add some more animals, you can't have to many after all!
The one at the top is an anthill, a bit hard to tell when it's not animated.

Lastly the NPCs. They are inspired by RPGmaker 2003 sprites but I like how they turned out and I think they are unique enough,
especially since they don't play that big of a roll in this game.

Feel free to ask questions or give tips for improvment!

Hi and hello!

I will make sure to put up a thread with info about the project soon, it's not a big one but I hope you will like it anyway!

Scripting moron sounds like a description of me as well, haha.

Hehe, I will definitely finish the project even if it already has taken a bit longer than planned, of course I will keep the forum updated as well!

I really like the old RTP style as well and I will admit that the mushrooms and dead tree (you only see half of it) is HEAVILY inspired by that RTP.
The eyes of the characters also use the same style as the standard sprites, it just looks the best to me.

Anyway, I am happy with the work so far and it is a big improvement from past creations!

Thanks again, it really seems like I am in the right place to get help!

Both of those solutions sounds intresting but maybe a bit complicated, I should have thought about all of this beföre
making the entire map maybe... oh well, this is why I started with a small project, to learn from it!

Haha, I see that this is a big problem then, I am still a bit surprised that not more people have this problem.

In the 2003 version I use a lot of events as a third layer etc and pass 1000 events often, hehe.

This time the main problem is that this is a small project and I really wanted everything to be on the same map, I guess I will have to split it
into two after all... it just seemed so convenient. Also I really like to have alot of small animals, drop effects when rain hit the ground etc. Another wasteful thing is
that I use events to block of the movement of NPCs.

Thanks for the help!

This should be a common problem but I couldn't find a solution...

So, is there any way to have more than 1000 events in one map?

Thank you for the welcome everyone!

I have taken a quick look at the script database and it seems like there is some intresting ones, the ones about changing resolution
and tile size especially.

Again I am very glad to have found the solution to my problems and it's great to finally be able to keep working on the project!

Hello!

A simple fan and collector of RPGs here, I have been in love with old RPGs for years and these days I mainly show my love
by collecting them (I have almost every SFC RPG) but of course I play as much as possible too.

I have been working on a secret project in RPGmaker 2003 since... 2006 (!), a project that of course is far too big, have a lot of stolen resources and well, nothing the world will
ever get to see sadly... But besides that I recently bought RPGmaker XP in hopes of making a small project with 100% legal resources made by myself. It has been really fun so far but
sadly I hit a dead end when the game started to slow down/lag a lot... after some experimenting I realised it was because of the number of sprites on the map and I finally ended
up here and found a script that seems to work fine!

So, I instantly decided to join and see what all of you are working on!

Thanks!
