Tutorial 10 parts 1-3 are up.

Glad to hear it worked.

A level up  :haha: wow! So... do I get to assign a skill point now.  :???:

If so, I'll take a +1 to scripting. :naughty:

One of the spritesets I'm working on for my fan project:

I use advanced renamer for batches.

Good luck :-*

Edit:

This method will work a lot better for what you're trying to accomplish (if you have dos and excel at least).

It worked perfectly.

Thanks again, KK20 (LevelUp).  :)

With the caterpillar mode turned on, how would I go about referencing my party members x,y coordinates as they move about the map? I tried searching for an answer online and tried to figure it out myself, but I'm stuck.  :???:

Great post, Blizzard! I remember reading about multithreading in my Dietel book when I was taking a C# class back in the day. I never got around to really learning much about them, but I'm sure that's soon to change. Right now I working my way through this video tutorial for game programming:

This post kind of goes "hand in hand" with some of things he's covering in first few videos of the series.

Express your Creativity / Re: Me singing in 2010

I must live under a rock, I'd never heard of The Scientist by Coldplay. I thought you did a good job singing and playing guitar on this one. Do you have any other acoustic tracks like these you could post?  :naughty:

RPG genre of course (specifically Baldur's Gate series for PC).

New Projects / Re: [XP] Lunar Legacy(Demo Time)
December 25, 2013, 07:50:30 pm
@kk20 That's what I was kind of thinking, but thanks for the help (levels up).

My thoughts on the demo so far:

The Good:

I really enjoyed the opening sequences of this demo. You picked a great song for the intro and synced it perfectly with  the animated synopsis. You pulled it off so well in fact, that by time the game started, I was genuinely pumped for a grand adventure.

I'm still working through the demo, so I'll post something more complete at a later time, but some of my nitpicks are:

Sometimes the rules for entering and exiting doors are not consistent. Sometimes an action key is required, while other times it's not. It seems to be something that was just overlooked in a couple of instances.

I not a huge fan of the mapping so far. I guess it's good enough to get by, but it seems like it should be little bit tighter (I've only made it to the assault on the fort).

The combat seems difficult, but I'm going to play through it again and be more thorough. I normally start demos by rushing through them to scope things out first, to make sure they're worth playing, before I invest too much time into them.

Overall, I have a very positive impression of the game. I'll post a review that's hopefully more helpful at a later time.

@Heretic86
QuoteDo you have content that you've created that you'd like to see included?  Graphics?  Scripts?  Sounds?

I don't at this time. I've uploaded some weapon sprites and I'm working on a Blizz-ABS 101 for beginners, but nothing worth including in this project. I'm always working and learning with RMXP so I'm sure I'll get into scripting eventually and might make something worth including. I do like making sprites (for my own projects), but I'm definitely no artist, I need to get a lot better at shading. If I come up with anything in the future worth mentioning, I'll give you a shout and see what you think.

Just wanted to give you another kudos on this project. I'm giving a copy to my nephew, he's in sixth grade and trying to learn how to use RMXP. I'm not always around to help him out, but this should help him a ton over the next couple of years, if he sticks with it.

That was a pretty insightful video @Heretic86, thanks for the link. I'm on board with ForeverZer0, that generally (well I guess it has already been proven) that the smaller the government, the freer the people will be. The major hiccup in this line of thinking though, is for people to really be freer, ALL governments of the world would need to operate the same (even at the smaller state level) or there would need to be one government for all the people. The reason I say this is, we have these awkward interfaces in the U.S. (other countries as well) with the governments of some foreign countries, primarily where trade and military is concerned. In many ways the fact that there are these oligarchies, dictatorships, theocracies, etc.. our government is kind of forced into behaving in some awkward, perhaps unintended ways to compensate for this "imbalance" in policies with foreign countries.

News / Suggestions / Feedback / Re: Game Dev topics

Please do, I would find it very interesting to read. I already find myself pawing through all the archives to glean any insight into game design for rmxp (or just in general) that I can.

Merry Christmas gameus! It's real nice of you to have this holiday giveaway.

New Projects / Re: [XP] Lunar Legacy(Demo Time)

I tried testing out the demo, but it doesn't seem to working quite right. When I run the game.exe the title screen and music start, but none of the options for new game, continue, shutdown are visible. I selected the first position (where the new game option normally is) to try to start the game, which loaded the starting map with some people on boat and an empty dialog box that wouldn't clear off the screen. Perhaps it's operator error on my part, I'll tinker around a bit more just in case. Is anybody else having an issue with this?

I think I'd need to go with Unreal 2004 (wow that beat out Goldeneye and Perfect Dark somehow) for my favorite shooter of all time. I spent so many friggin' hours playing Torlan and Primeval maps online back in the day.

@Heretic86 Nice work on this project. Man, I can tell you've put a lot of effort into creating/assembling this useful collection of art and compatible scripts. I'll be pawing through this over my x-mas vacation for sure, there are a lot of insightful tips and tricks here. Thanks for creating and sharing this project, I'm looking forward to importing some of the tilesets with all of the properties set (saves so much freakin' time).

I don't know how you guys/girls feel about trading off your privacy in exchange for better security, but I'm not willing to make any concessions that are not forced upon me. I have no real fear of terrorists, because they're not a real, immediate threat to me. I'm far more concerned walking down some of the streets in my hometown at night, than I am of the million-to-1 chance that some terrorist is gonna get me.

I think a lot of the problems were seeing with the erosion of citizens rights to privacy could have been curtailed if a large company would have started selling online real estate. I think if citizens were able to purchase a "virtual home", they would damn well expect their privacy to be respected while occupying it. If you could keep your music, movies, songs, books, games,  etc... in your "virtual home" you could invite your friends to come over and hangout. If you caught a company or person stalking you, breaking and entering, going through your belongings, etc... you could press charges. It would give some protection against illegal search and seizure... or it should.

If all of the companies want to treat their products as "real" and not "virtual" why don't we do it with housing. All we'd have to do is piggyback off of their well worn trail of rhetoric for copy right protection, and bam virtual houses are treated like real houses with all rights intact.

j/k it's never work.
