Title: New Script Database

Also, my second job is getting blocked by my university, so I may have more time to spend around here starting next week :D

I should totally get you to redesign the Script Database to be inside the forum's skin instead on the homepage.

Next time you're sick (which could happen any time) we should all volunteer to give blood to Chaos Project. :V:

He'd even have a couple of good resources beforehand. I can give him the Shoutbox Archive PHP file and the SQL queries I used to obtain the data. All he had to do would be add drop-down menus to select the RM and script category and then generate the content with links using those settings.

If you send it to me within the next 12 hours, I will have it done within the next 24 hours.

Sent. As I already said, if you can't finish it and if you can get things working at least in concept, I can take it from there. That would still reduce my workload a lot.

Lol, I can't believe I've forgot about this! I've even had the time to do it recently!

I'll work on it today, and hopefully have it done.

EDIT: work came up. Will finish.

Yay. One project down, two to go (Blizz-ABS 2.85 and Blizz-ABS 3.0 are the other two).

winkio probably saved me hours of work. I still had to edit the template's PHP/HTML to get a nice grid like this (which isn't something he could have done blindly), but it was simply trial and error because I had the right data to work with from the beginning. :)

THE NEW DATABASE! - brought to you by your admins

ooooooo, i'm having a spasm from seeing the new database, it's a lot better than the old one, easier to read to with it now being in a visible table (i think the old one was in a table but was hidden)

Post by: Blizzard on October 28, 2012, 06:13:01 pm
There were no borders before and now all topics are aligned globally. The old database aligned only the scripts from the same category in a table. Plus, this one is completely integrated with the forum skin.

from a programming aspect it's implemented as a forum action in much the same way your profile pages is an action. where as the old database was a standalone php page.

Previously it wasn't so much a standalone PHP page as it actually was a custom component in the Joomla CMS.

I can't believe I haven't noticed this. Epic --just as I was finally thinking I should get back into Rmxp one time and actually start a serious project.

May I ask if "everything" you did was look all the topics' titles and organize them according to its tags? (With "everything" I'm not being sarcastic, I'm just asking if that is the "only" thing that had to be done)

the script database is automated, there is a php script that analyses topics in the database board and pulls the needed information to sort them in the list.

Post by: Apidcloud on November 15, 2012, 08:14:42 pm
Ah yes, I forgot about the automated system :haha:

So yeah, when you create a new thread, that php script automatically picks the needed information(by using tags) in order to add it to the database and sort them categorically.
So nice :)

I wonder if this actually one of the only forums that actually use a fully automated script database..

Also, couldn't we make a database for everything - not everything - ? Including event tutorials 'n stuff

we could, but do you have time to make it? non of us do :P

Well, I never programmed in php but it doesn't seem that difficult(issue-wise)

Edit:
Can I take a look on that php script that winkio made?

That's why it's important that the topic header fits the template. The PHP script expects the to be in a specific format and analyzes them for the necessary data (that includes [XP] and similar tags as well).

Honestly? It would probably take me half an hour as I can simply copy-paste and edit some code. But that isn't the reason why we haven't done it so far. There simply aren't so many tutorials/event systems that it really makes sense. Scripts on the other side, we have currently a few hundred of those so the situation is a bit different and it's difficult to find what you need. Also, event systems are usually harder to categorize.

Post by: Apidcloud on November 16, 2012, 07:13:19 am
Well, its true that it may be hearder to categorize event systems, but they are pretty much the same as scripts...internally, they are eventually the same :p I think that it would be nice to have an event automated database. No1 would stop us from adding more tags or what not, and yes, tags are really essencial :)

What really would need work is editing all topics and making sure all headers are correctly set up.

Indeed :) But after that, it would be easy to have a complete automated database ^^ :)

Quick necro to mention that we should probably add MV scripts to the actual database button up top.

Would it be possible to use regexp and sub out the tab "\t" and replace with like 4 spaces " "?

I guess. But what for?

I personally prefer the tab. If you don't like the formatting, it is always possible to change the tab space, but not the other way around.
