Welcome! / Hello... Again
December 19, 2012, 01:12:28 am
Hey, I joined this site a while back, not sure how long ago, and well, I got completely derailed. Completely. So I forgot about RPG Maker, Chaos Project, and all that. I don't know how much I'm "back" but it's not like I had time to get settled in the community when I joined anyway so I'm definitely still a newbie. Haha. I had to do a quick search through the topics to find my username since I had forgotten it too! ^^;

Jeez, whatever the case, I'll uh... be around now I guess. Hello and all that.

I am sure some of this could be done using events or just changing things in the database, but maybe not exactly the way I want it so let me explain.

I'd like to have certain weapons that have a specific class set to them that give them major advantages against specific enemies. The specific enemies also cannot be damaged much if at all without a weapon which has that class in its attributes. This is not just a simple "does more damage vs." type weapon either.

For example: A ninja is fighting a Giant class beast. The Giant cannot be damaged by normal weapons even if they have vs. giant or if the Giant happend to be a Fire Giant an Ice Element weapon would still do next to no damage (maybe one or two points more). The ninja has a Zanbato which has the Grand class which can actually do damage to Giant, Adult Dragon, and Golem class monsters. The ninja also has a God Piercer Naginata which has the Giant Slayer Class which does extra damage to Giants only, and average damage to Adult Dragon and Golem class monsters.

Should the ninja equip a Nodachi and fight the Giant, it would take next to no damage. Should he equip the Zanbato it would deal average damage. Should he equip the God Piercer Naginata then he would do 2 -3 times the normal damage to the Giant.

The second part of this would be adding the Weapon Class conditions to certain monsters.

So, can anyone help me? I did a serach to make sure this has not been done already, but if I passed over it then please forgive me.

General Discussion / Cameos and Homage: Good or Bad?
April 15, 2011, 02:58:44 am
I was wondering what people's thoughts were on cameo appearances and homage to games within a game.

What are some pros and cons? What is best to avoid? What are some desirable scenarios?

I don't plan on doing this much if at all in the game I want to make, but I thought I'd ask to get a few opinions.

General Discussion / My Concept
April 15, 2011, 02:16:42 am
I am completely new to RPG Maker, but I have a lot of ideas, I learn quickly, and I usually have a good measure of patience.
Anyone who reads this be sure to brainstorm with me and make suggestions. Also let me know if anything I consider might be too hard to do or there might be something better.

If anyone pesters me about unoriginality, I will tell you now that this is a story based on what my cousins and I came up with over years of playing with legos. One of them wanted to be a vampire, most of us focused on family elements, my other cousin wanted to have a princess as his love interest, etc. So please do not take these things at face value. They are original in how they will be fleshed out in the story itself.

-Basic Ideas for the Game-

Possible Title: Rise of the Ether Born

Game Genre: RPG/Adventure possibly.

Battle: Map Encounters -> Real Time Battles

Possible Main Characters:
Desmond Wickers - A youth who sets out on a journey to find a cure for a strange illness in his hometown. He has always helped people and will do anything he can, but he also has other motives for leaving. Namely, to find his family. He is average in fighting, and skilled in magic. Prefers electric and healing spells. He can combine magic and attacks. Innate gift...
Renee Cress - A young lady that has always taken more to the wilds and adventure than the other people in her town. Renee leaves as soon as she is of-age with the dream of meeting a dragon. She also wants to prove that women can be just as strong and courageous as men. Solid fighting, average in magic. She has some powerful charge attacks. Innate gift...
Nicole Saosin - A teenage girl trying to desperately get her father back. But he's a vampire, she's a half breed, and this means travel in the daylight is tough. Not only that, but she knows next to nothing of the man who controls her father. She gets a speed and strength bonus, vampire skills, and weakness to sunlight.
Michael Nells - A young man just entering adult-hood who has lived his life in the slums of a foreign nation. Despite his poverty he befriended the princess of the land. As they grew up together he developed feelings for the princess. He is wary of the Emperor and his guards, but Michael is willing to do whatever it takes to impress the princess to win her affections. Did I mention the princess is a ninja? He has lock-pick skills, stealth, and learns weapon skills quickly.
Michelle Berlowe - A teenage girl who lives in the great sanctuary known as the Pylon Gnosis. She studies daily and hopes to help her bed-ridden mother by providing for them.  She also tries unceasingly to concoct a potion with strong enough curative powers to save her mother. Another problem to arise is that she has a new "friend" who she can't bring inside. Maybe it's because he is a monster... She has knowledge of wide-effect spells and some status spells. Can't take much physical damage.

World: Virvesa

Setting and Time Period: The world of Virvesa is old, but its people are young. There are no technologies, but simple machines such as windmills, catapults, etc. Magic tends to add conveniences. There is a forgotten race which used technology and a few people have found and been able to use some ancient devices, but not with understanding. The era is similar to middle ages, but it's moving toward great discoveries to further progress.

Continents: 5 and three large islands. Story might be contained in one continent and an island or two.

Countries: There might be 6 and one forming. I'll try to make the countries realistic in having their own cultures, religions, and issues which will be going on along with the main plot and influencing the characters.

Peoples: Diverse. There are many races of humans as well as many humanoids and some sentient creatures such as dragons, magical beasts, and some animals born as familiars.
Abilities: I'd like to have a very extensive set of attack skills, effects, and spell types. Also, there will be certain Battle Classes specific to a few characters that can teach skills of that Class or maybe even apprentice the main under them for a time. Same with magic, but there will also be some Magic Classes that are unobtainable unless a person is born with the ability. These are called Mystics.

Influences and Focus: I will be trying to make a game that has hints of Saga Frontier (Diversity and multiple mains with different plots), Star Ocean 2 (Active battles and personal development of characters), Secret/Legend of Mana (Some light-hearted aspects, interacting with strange creatures, and many side-quests), and Final Fantasy (Something like a job system and many races). My focus is to make a fun game that will be original in many ways in that it is my take on the fantasy genre.

To finish, I want to mention that this is my main goal, and I know it will be a long time in making. I will probably make many mini-games which will help me toward this goal one step at a time. It is an ambitious idea and will most likely change much as I find out what I am capable of.

So... any thoughts or questions?

EDIT: I failed to mention that I am a decent artist and although I have only experimented with sprites, I know it should be possible ... if tedious to make lots of original art and sprites for the game. I also would like to get away from the default sprite size and form as well as have some scenes with artwork if not full animations.

Hello, I'm Mystic.

I'm brand new to RPG Maker and I am curious as to what I can make with this program. I am actually kind of excited since I have been wanting to make a game based upon the stories my cousins and I would come up with when we played Legos together in the past. The good thing is, I am pretty handy with a digital tablet, and a good friend of mine is in IT and great with programming, not games of course, but he should adapt quickly.

With that said, it's going to be a long road since I have barely even gotten my feet wet, but I'm hoping that this community here will help me out with any snags along the way. I'll be sure to try out BABS since looking for custom battle systems is the reason I found this site.

I'll have a ton of questions since I am new to all this so please bear with me. I sift through forums pretty often though so I'll try to note some pointers already posted.
