Title: Star G. (Blizz-ABS example game)
Post by: Blizzard on January 25, 2009, 05:44:50 pm
First of all: Blizzard is my alias, not my company name! The "company" name, if you will, is StormTronics.
This game serves as another example demo for the Blizz-ABS.

Background story

There is not really one. The game is too short to have one.

Story

As this is not an RPG, there is not really a story. Star G. gets a transmission from the base. They are sending him on a mission to stop some unknown enemy forces in sector Z23, particularry the Prenux solar system. Star G. needs to fight his way through space, planet Aballon and finally the orbit of the sun Prenux.

The characters

Star G. is the pilot of the RX-G series hunter and one of the best pilots in the known galaxy.

Additional info

This game does NOT require the RGSS RTP installed to be playable!

This game was NOT compiled and encrypted. You are free to use any resources, but be sure to give appropriate credit.
This game does not use the default configuration of Blizz-ABS, so don't copy the script from the script editor, use the script provided in a separate text file. The game controls are NOT default, RMXP's controls are being overriden. There is a readme included with the controls.
This game mainly serves for demonstration of the Blizz-ABS. It uses some additional scripts for calibration which are not official plugins and were not made as such.

Homing Missle abuse FTW! :D

You forgot to credit Fantasist for finding those graphics

Edit:
The game is awesome! I can't get past level 1 lol.

Sounds like someone got the name from me. :V:

This is something really great to show off for the Blizz-ABS area. Shows you the potential of creating something extremely original using an engine. Blows Chronicles of Lag-a-Lot right out of the water. :V:

Well, great job on this...How long did it take you?

How do we kill the last boss?

Seems impossible.

@Star:  I remember him saying that he only worked a day on it... so... just today... (unless I'm making stuff up :P)
But he had this idea awhile back, as seen from the request for spaceship graphics topic.

@GG:  Yes, you can.  Homing Missle spam :P

Roughly a day. I worked on it about an hour on saturday. I did the rest in the afternoon and evening on sunday while my brain was burnt from saturday night. xD

EDIT: I had to update the game. There was a bug where you wouldn't get the score at the end when you die in Survival Mode. I managed to get over 90000 points (LMAO) until I died, but I couldn't see the exact result because of that bug so I fixed it. Survival Mode FTW. <3

EDIT:

I died because of lag. ._. Anyway, the maximum possible highscore in Survival is 1000000 so you know.

I described the controls in the readme. :P Get in range of an enemy spaceship (i.e. 4 map squares) and press J. The default Blizz-ABS targetting will freeze the game so you can select a target. Very useful in Survival Mode when you're low on energy, lol!

This game rocks! I can't pass the second level. The first boss easy once you kill of the 2 guys above him then stay in the corner and spam missle him

Post by: Blizzard on January 26, 2009, 04:30:30 pm
There's a little trick. Try to clear out half of the screen and keep firing all the time. True, you won't get as many points, but you can survive at least. xD Survival Mode rocks, though. The first few enemies are static, but right after the first wave, enemies get respawned and it gets tricky. xD It's random so any enemy can appear anywhere which makes this game mode epic. <3 Hey, I played more than half an hour through to get those 500k points before I died. xD

i beat the last boss, bloody hell he was hard to kill and he was huge

this is actualy a little addictive as well, nice game blizz
Title: Re: Star G. (Blizz-ABS example game)
Post by: Blizzard on January 26, 2009, 05:05:50 pm
Actually there's a simple strategy to beat him. xD
I hope that the health packs at the end before the boss are useful. xD
Title: Re: Star G. (Blizz-ABS example game)
Post by: Shadonking on January 26, 2009, 05:09:49 pm
yeah they were very useful

i tried not using the homing missiles unless i needed them

You have infinite so use them anytime you can. I don't use them as often as I actually can either, though.
Title: Re: Star G. (Blizz-ABS example game)
Post by: Shadonking on January 26, 2009, 06:19:10 pm
i knew i had infinite but they were just to unfair to use becuase if you stayed out of there shooting paths then just use the missiles you hardly ever get hit .

Yeah, it makes the game boring if you play it that way.

It's a pretty good example game, Blizz. Shows some interesting game possibilities that you can make with Blizz-ABS. In my opinion, the last boss was really easy. It shoots so incredibly predictably that I was moving the ship without even thinking about it (And upon trying it again, I did find that simple strategy to beat it).

All in all, great game, Blizz. Although I have yet to figure out what "Star G., coming." was supposed to mean. :<_<: (Maybe "Star G., come in." :???: )

Woot!  Just beat it all without using a single missile!

it is a great game but a small eventing error messes up the game up at the end, if you die while on the last boss it infaloops the messages "crap the have a monster" "take it down Star G." and you have to shut the game down... I fixed it in my game . as simple as adding a control self switch operation.

but really great game for how little effort it had to of taken.

HOLFUYCRAP this is awesome! You have really proved this ABS to be something with this one, and you didn't even need to. <333
You're too awesome it's starting to frustrate me.

But I was so bummered by the last boss event loop. :| Nearly got him arghgh :haha:

Yeah, it was fairly easy for a Final Boss...

Figure out the pattern, then seek and destroy, Lol.
The only difficult part was to not make any mistakes, Lol.

Even if the boss battle was easy (and for the main part you could be a cheap ass and hang around the edges, resulting in no score XD), I still think this is a neat little game that demonstrates the ABS awesomely. :D

I absolutely agree!!
I was thinking that someone who doesn't have a current project should make like...an independence day game using this Gameplay, Lol...

There's a problem when I fight the last boss I lose. When I retry a message keeps repeating.

The :V or :V: smiley means sacrasm and "don't take it too serious". ;)

EDIT: Ok, I finally came around putting up a fixed version. The grammar mistake as well as the last boss fight have been fixed.

EDIT: 2.23 isn't the most recent ABS version anymore. I suggest you get the newest version if you want to use Blizz-ABS for your game. :P
