Title: [RMVXAce] Working Title
Post by: Calintz on January 09, 2008, 08:12:24 pm
A planet exists in a galaxy far from Earth's own; it is known to its inhabitants as "working name." A mystical world where fantastic creatures ravage the lands will set the tone for a heart-felt adventure. Do you have the courage to stand amongst an array of alien species? Will you face their laws and uncover the truth behind your existence in this unfamiliar place? Will you find the strength to survive an onslaught of adversity in a world where friendship is hard to conjure? Scour the terrain of "working name" in search of your answers and meet peculiar people along the way. Unravel secrets that will shake the very ground you walk upon and perhaps you will find something lost with time, but never lost to you...

We begin at Blake's (protagonist) home. Following routine, Blake is awoken by his mother and asked to come downstairs for breakfast. Blake, his twin brother Jake, and their mother Lori enjoy a typical breakfast before a verbal confrontation occurs between Jake and Lori. Frustrated by the argument, Lori asks Blake to complete his chores before retreating to her bedroom to reflect in solitude. After finishing his chores, Blake also returns to his sleeping quarters to indulge in one of his favorite hobbies, drawing.

While putting the final touches on one of his newest works, Jake approaches Blake to ask him for accompaniment to their friend's house later that night. Blake refuses out of disinterest and instead decides to take a walk in the woods along their property line. At his leisure, Blake comes across a campsite often frequented by the family as a whole during the summer months in past years. Upon reaching the campsite, he reminisces of the events that took place there...

After gathering himself, Blake presses on. He eventually comes to the river that was said to have taken the life of his younger sister Sophia some two years past. No evidence of her death was recovered, however the officials remain convinced that she had accidentally fallen into the river while playing nearby and was swept away in the current; her life's passing occurring in the horrific experience as she had not the ability to swim. Her case was closed and the Chambers' family was left to grieve in uncertainty.

Blake takes a seat at the base of a tree near the river in remembrance of his younger sister whom he loved dearly. He longs for the pain to leave his chest, but with a heavy heart he blames himself for not being by her side at the time of her disappearance. As Blake's emotions reach a climax, as if connected in some way the weather begins to turn for the worst and the skies crack with despair and rage. Water begins to fall from the clouds as if to match the tears that stream from a young boy's eyes. The weather continues to worsen and Blake finds reprieve as it takes his minds off current events and urges him to retreat to a safer environment.

As he journeys home the earth beneath his feet will begin to shake, the skies will torment the air around him with light and sound, and he will experience a wrath of which has been recorded only once in this area before...a wrath to match that of which took place on the very night the Chambers family lost a daughter...

meh... well... Cutscenes yes... but like, regular talking scenes no, like parts extremely important yeah, but parts that arent like a 20/10 on the 'important-to-the-plot-o-meter' shouldnt.

I think that the parts you don't press a button only work well as major parts in the storyline and especially work well if say it's different graphics to the main game, but yeah it's a good idea works well if you have a song and don't wanna edit it :P
Also yay I'm on credits :P
EDIT: And special thanks  ;D

@Sally:
I think there's a lot of talent on CP too!! Not like RMXP.org, or on Crankeye, where a lot of the ppl don't even finish their games. That's just pointless.

Maybe he expects to draw visitors with your rep, Bliz is a member in RMRK OMG! Let's go join! Or maybe not, I know nothing about it. But seriously, you seem to have contributed a lot, that's where I found Chaos Project after all.

Well, it IS fact that the number of new registrations per month dropped since I left. The reason could be my leaving, but doesn't have to.

Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Vell on January 15, 2008, 10:02:43 pm
yup, then, I'll just waste time and forgot about everything, playing the demo.
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Calintz on January 15, 2008, 11:51:30 pm
I've been giving some intense thought on how I would to have the battle system set up, and I think I've come to  a conclusion...I think I'm gonna have a Side-View Battle system with mobile actors, but stationary enemies...Whaddya think?? It will be like the early FF games...

The actors move to the enemy to attack, but the enemies won't move...
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Nortos on January 15, 2008, 11:54:18 pm
are the enemies animated or not?
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Calintz on January 16, 2008, 12:03:50 am
They'll blink, bobb, and weave, but they won't move...
It's just that; to make the fully animated battlers, would take sooo much time, and thats something that I'm running out of. I mean, I could aways fully animate them after I get my project graded ya' know, but for now, I just need to get some battlers completed, while still having the game look good...
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Nortos on January 16, 2008, 12:25:14 am
I think it's fine breath of fire never had enemies very animated and I loved the bs
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Calintz on January 16, 2008, 12:29:35 am
All right cool...
I'll probably have them attack also, they just won't move to the player.
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Vell on January 16, 2008, 06:45:49 am
yeah, thats understandable.
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Lost_Hope on January 16, 2008, 10:25:19 am
so the enemies will move like on Shining Force: Ressurection of the Dark Dragon?

oh and you should have them like Lufia....that would be cool!
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Vell on January 16, 2008, 03:19:07 pm
thats a remake of a REALLY old game, that I played and loved. the remake changed and added and took off a bunch of things... it wasnt as awesome, the original was harder imo.

anyway yeah, I don't much care how the battle system is, so long as its awesome and wins.
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Spoofus on January 16, 2008, 03:31:19 pm

Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Nortos on January 16, 2008, 05:24:47 pm
my cbs is like Lufia's seaniorsr they don't move and it's front animated
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Sally on January 16, 2008, 05:28:15 pm
so its a TBS?
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Nortos on January 16, 2008, 05:33:30 pm
no Lufia 1 and 2 were frontview like default RTP bs but they had the battlers on the battleback and they are animated like a sideview

Nice game.  It seems to have a lot of potential.  The detail on the maps is incredible, and you seem to have good music and a good storyline going.  I look forward to playing the next demo!  The only glitch I encountered is in the intro, i can move the sleeping blake around and when the intro ends, the game glitches, as he does not move to the dresser.  Other than that, this game is gonna be AWESOME! 8)

Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Nortos on January 24, 2008, 10:50:11 pm
the scale the charecter thing down is pretty easy it's also seen in Mode7 I'm thinking about using that one on rpgrev supposedly has no lag...

Wait where does the demo go up to, because I got to the bit where you miss the bus then it crashed, because "script is hanging" but that isnt your fault it is a common error, when the window is minimized for too long. Anyways, I think that you should increase the player's walking speed.
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Calintz on February 01, 2008, 08:42:00 am
There will be a run feature that you can use after obtaining the item in Wruterius, which allows you to run at will.

Post by: Vell on February 01, 2008, 12:34:26 pm
cool, thatll be awesome. are you planning on introducing voice acting? just wondering, your prolly not, s itd be hard to find VAs for even just the main characters for use in the important scenes...
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Calintz on February 01, 2008, 12:36:48 pm
No voice acting...I don't have a mic, or I would do most of the voices myself. I am very good at that kind of thing. I've been a lead actor in all of my play-production classes...I'm pretty good at accenting my voice.

Map completion update posted...

Cliff Notes:
I am completely finished with Fairy Forest and am awaiting the tileset being made by Phasedscar. I need the new tileset to further progress the game, because of this, I will begin working on my own tileset for Zergott Village (The Fairy Kingdom in the treetops) as a placeholder until Phasedscar finishes my request for me.

Next Demo's completion as of current >> 75%
What's left before it's release >>
- Make some battlers
- Fully incorporate the battle system
- Retrieve the Zergott Village tileset and complete the village

Special Thnx to you Phasedscar...

Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on March 23, 2008, 07:06:57 pm
I was first wondering where were the feet, until you said that they're still a WIP. I don't really have much to say as I don't know what the battle style is according with the other battlers, but it almost looks like a side sprite's head been connected with a body. Not that's it's a bad thing...but oh well. I also don't like that I can't see an eye, but that can't be helped huh, as it is Gil's appearance. :P

However, the village's completion % is only a mild 5% or so.

Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Calintz on May 12, 2008, 12:58:22 am
It's Calintz here...The forums always screw up when I log in, and the refresh button doesn't seem to ever wanna solve the issue, so I' just posting as a guest.

The demo is almost here. Senior project night is coming up in like two weeks, so I don't have a choice but to get the thing done ;). New improvements makes the game look cool!!

I don't think the new demo will disappoint as far as graphics, but the features might, as how I still haven't finished the battle system entirely, and how I will probably have to use the default system for my senior project :(.

But don't worry everyone, as soon as senior project night is over with, then I will be back to the forums 100%!! Unless of course...My mom shuts off the internet like she's been talking about. Let's hope that doesn't happen...

2 weeks? That's tough eh? Hopefully you can get major parts finished by then ;D

And I hope that your mom doesn't shut down the internet O_O If she does I'll miss you :'(

Anyways can't wait to see that finished product xD

I'm almost finished with Zergott Village. After that, I make the Fairy Kingdom. Then, it's all the events that are in between, and the DEMO will be finished.

I really hate to say this, but I might have to wait another DEMO until my battle system is finished...

And set the legs and hands at an angle.  mean, his right leg and hand are to his right. So when we see him from his left, his right limbs should appear to be shorter.

Hmm, it was a while ago when I played the demo, but from what I remember, it had a good storyline and good systems.  Although I don't seem to remember battle... perhaps it wasn't in the demo?  Definitely continue it!  There are so many projects around here that none of them really get as much attention as you may have remembered.  Definitely ick it back up: as you put more work into it, more people will flock to this topic.

Also, does this mean that you are going to be active again?
Title: Re: Well in the Woods...
Post by: Calintz on January 11, 2009, 01:55:33 pm
Thank you...
I think I will "ick" it back up again =)

No, the battle system wasn't decided on upon the release of my earlier Demos.

=)

I can honestly say that I plan on trying to become VERY active again.
I can't promise anything, because I have a full-time job and I just get tired sometimes, Lol...

I wish I was more like the people who can do EVERYTHING!! Lmao, but alas, I am simply Calintz =)

Maybe...

They will all be of that quality, you can rest assure of that.
I don't know if they will be that big. It depends if it is like a bat or something.

That is the human character size. Everything else with proportion to that...

Everything looks fine and dandy, high quality and great with that Calintz style incorporated into it. However, the only problem is that the face, or head rather, looks awfully strange. Heads aren't really pure circles to my knowledge. It also makes your character look unnecessarily chubby. ;_; I would suggest you make the head look a lot like a real human head or something similar to the RMXP Chibi or Half-Kaizer. Though it's up to you, I wouldn't mind either way.

The body is fine, and it's only style that can make any real issue. He seems sort of stringy, but I wonder how it will look if it's animated or great.

Way better job that I could ever do, but I'm always a critic, so here goes: he looks a bit off-balance (not a big thing, just one of those little OCD things I have), his back is arched kinda wierd, and it could use a bit more texture, but other than that, great job. I actually like the head; plenty of artstyles use plain circles for them, and in this instance I'd say it's used pretty well.

I am only going to sprite his mouth in when he is screaming or when he is struck by the enemy. Just a preference to my style...

This particular graphics pose...(I failed to mention this earlier) is solely used for Blake's very 1st enemy encounter in Wrutearius, and he is intimidated which is why he leans back slightly...like he wants to run away but he is scared...His actual fighter graphics will contain a solid style (sword and shield) with a new outfit.

:D I like how this is sounding so far! :P The way you write is also quite flowing and easy to read (which is saying something considering I have such a low attention span XD).

I'm probably too late for this, but if cutscenes are long then I prefer to press buttons through them to keep my attention maintained. Short ones work really nicely automated. <3

Good job! ;)

You can go ahead and forget about the Groundowr...I am scratching the design.
I have a brand new monster that will fit the role of Blake's 1st battle way more, and I should have his rough up by the end of the night...

I will keep the name Groundowr, but I will be changing the design.

The new monster will be called a "Devowr."
It's alias...Glutton.

I really think you will all like it. It's pretty bad ass. I am gonna go sketch the design now.

What an original creature. Species like these are great for world-building in such a game. This particular beast doesn't look like a first monster though, looks similar to one of those lower-average to average sort of beasts in regards to level. I can't wait to see a sprite version of this and when Blake actually fights it.

It'll also be interesting meeting harder versions of it if that's okay with you.

I thought of that also, but the only reason that I chose this to be his 1st battle, is because I really want to strike fear into Blake of what he can find in Wrutearius...I don't think a hump-back chub would do the trick, Lol...

I have the perfect solution for this. You said he doesn't seem like a 1st stage monster, right!? I agree 100% which is why I have come up with this idea. I will create a kid version of these beasts, and this particular one will just be the adults!! You will find these ones in rarer areas of the game, while the kids scavenge the land picking off mice and what not in caves and shit XD...

Oh, I had a vista operating system for awhile. You right click the exe file for RMXP, and select "run as administrator". That cleared the problem for me. I don't have Vista anymore, so I can't give exact directions for the following, but if you right click the RMXP exe, there's some settings somewhere that you can tell it to always run this program as an administrator (I did it before, but maybe that was done via the RMXP shortcut. If someone actually has RMXP on vista, they'd be a better guide on how to do that x_x)

I...for some reason can not get this to work properly...
I have Vista Home Basic, and this method does not solve my problems...

The program itself will run, but the entire program becomes unresponsive whenever I try to test play the project, or even play sounds through the editor!! :/

Which is in the topic...

Well, I'm excited that the following months will include a great amount of RMXP games coming onto shorelines. :3

? I've been running Vista for a bit now and I've never had that problem. I think I might know what I did that would have preemptively fixed it, though (Key word: THINK. It might not work!)

Go to Control Panel, User Accounts, and Click "Turn User Account Control on or off". If it's on, do yourself a favor and disable the ****ed thing. Otherwise, sorry. :^_^': That was my big plan.

Jake's new down graphics are complete.
I will finish the rest of him tonight and post him up...

EDIT
Well Shdwlink...I am trying your method now. I will edit this post with updates.

EDIT01
It didn't work shdwlink. I have decided to uninstall both the RMXP engine, and the RGSS from my laptop. I will just make graphics for WITW on my laptop. Thank you anyway Shdwlink.

Hey man, do you need any help what-so-ever at all with graphics? I've gotten a lot better but I could help you on the side while I help Brian with his game. BTW he doubts he'll sell the game. Its our first project and he said it seems it would prolly be a waste of time so he was kinda wondering if you could help with the sprites but if not, then I'm gonna read up on some good tutorials and start spriting myself :)

Anyways, HURRY UP!!!!! LOLZ

Nah, I don't need any help right now. Thanks anyway...
I'm actually going to really start cracking down on this. I am hoping to crank this out in early march, or maybe even at the end of February.

The only way that I can afford to help him, is if you place what he needs in my request thread. I will get to it on my own time, but I can't afford to pick up anymore side projects.

QuoteX  Today at 02:32:21 PM Calintz16438 - Well in the Woods has undergone a name change ... When looking for the project, search for "Wrutearius: Well in the Woods."

That's one interesting name to put. Makes it even more mystical. I expect a lot of world-building to come from this game that it'll be massive. But don't get possessed by it.
Title: Re: [RMXP]Wrutearius: Well in the Woods
Post by: Calintz on May 31, 2009, 04:47:11 am
You actually nailed it on the head Starrod.

I won't go over-board I promise. I take things a bit slower than most. I double and even triple check things from time to time. As for world-building .. .. .. =D you'll just have to wait and see what I come up with XD!!

BTW:
Do you guys think I should add "the" BEFORE "Well" in the title?? I have been dealing with this dilemma for some time now, Lol.
Title: Re: [RMXP]Wrutearius: Well in the Woods
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on May 31, 2009, 01:44:22 pm
Add a 'The' if this "Well in the Woods" is very important to the story. It makes it seem less mystical/fantasy like though, and more like some legendary artifact or important story element.

Well...I guess at this current moment, some people can think 'Well in the Woods' is an interjection without a comma or an adjective "I'm doing well in the woods...or...Well, in the woods...", but really...I highly doubt that'll be the case. :xD:

One thing that irks me. Add a space between [RMXP] and Wrutearius.

Hey everyone ...
I am close to finished with the Flashback scene in the woods.

Then, it's a total makeover of the well event, (also in Blake's Woods) and then I begin the events in Wrutearius. I will be doing some mapping makeovers in the "Amarillo Cave", and I am gonna fully re-construct the Amarillo Village tileset, (the village in the trees) and make one more tileset from scratch. The new tileset will be specifically for the Amarillo Kingdom. I won't spoil the treat, but let's just say my imagination has been working overtime =D.

The DEMO has some good time behind it, but I have 8more months before I head into the merchant marines, (there is a waiting list) so I have plenty of time to bust this out. I did a shit load of work today. I learned a lot about scrolling and timing (no more guessing involved. I event quicker now) so I can move at an alarming rate now.

If I can pull this pace until I finish the DEMO, you guys can expect it within two months. Give or take a week for creating the basic battlers. Look forward to this guys ...

Alright, I will make sure to clear it up, but I have to ask ...
How in the world can you be confused about the meaning of the word "Well" in the title!?

Interjections like "well" aren't really used when creating a title, unless the writer is in-experienced. You really couldn't tell that I used well as an obvious noun?? If you were to read the title of my game, implying the meaning of the word as you confused it, the name of the game wouldn't even make sense ...

Edit
I placed emphasis on "Well" by adding "the" before it which implies of its importance.
Does that clear things up more?? Does it seem more reasonable??

What the hell, Lol.
Thanks LB.

Edit001:
I am working on the light effects for the well right now. These are for when Maltest lures Blake to the well.
I think you guys will like what I do with it.

Edit002:
The lighting effects for the well are finished. It's time to construct the event itself. Give me a couple days, and I will have an update on the status of the well.

I also have to create some small aura balls to use for rising from the well, but that won't take very long at all. Oh, and I have to re-do Blake leaning on the edge of the well and thinking to himself. (A couple of you have seen this) Once I finish these two tasks, I will be able to complete the event. For now, I will use placeholders though.

Thanks to those who have kept a constant interest in "Wrutearius: The Well in the Woods."

When I saw the title as "Well in the Woods", I actually thought it meant "well" as in a term of measurement (like "far into").

I prefer the title without the first "The".  I think regardless of what someone might interpret it as, it's snappier.  Besides, part of playing a game is the exploration and discovery, in my opinion.

If people interpret it as something other than an object, then that's simply one more thing for them to discover.

So I'm gonna dick around with this project some more.
I suppose I won't make any promises, but I would like to dish out a DEMO.

Seeing as my battler spriting ability has increased ten fold since my last try; I think I will finally have the time to incorporate a side view battle system into this project (which what was ultimately holding back the release of the DEMO in the past).

I'll update the main page when I get around to it.

Pretentious Monotony: Cacaphony of the Derelict
Crystal Fantasy Tales 2: The Dragon's Star
AWESOME POSSUM KICKS DOCTOR MACHINO'S BUTT!
Macrophallic Epicaricacy I: Schizothemia

I sure hope you can tell that those are BAD examples of Game Titles.
General Rules to Follow:

1) Don't use the words Eternal, Crystal, Tales, Magic, Fantasy, Dragon, Darkness, Light, Legend, God, Divine, etc...
they've been used SO MANY TIMES it has become absolutely disgusting to see another game named
Fantasy of the Dark Crystal Song.

2) IF IT TAKES LONGER TO PRONOUNCE THE NAME OF YOUR GAME THAN IT DOES TO CLICK ON THE TOPIC, YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG!

3) Don't use Big words in an attempt to sound smart or mysterious.  It just makes you sound like an asshole.

4) Short, sweet, simple is the best.  With some relevance to the game.
Sometimes Latin works, or Japanese, maybe Spanish.

Just make it sound GOOD.  Don't try to make it sound SMART, and don't use the aforementioned cliche words of RPG-ness.

also: thank Holk of RMRK for oompiling that list of overused game title words,
and offering a guide on game titles (this is a short summary/build off of his post)

Title: Re: [RMXP]Wrutearius: The Well in the Woods
Post by: tSwitch on January 15, 2010, 03:09:35 am
my point is the title is inflated (do you even -need- the subtitle? is this a series or something?) and not only that but it's a word with no definition and it looks confusing, much less is it confusing to pronounce without first being told how to (wuh-root-ear-huh-rhioos? wu-teahr-ee-uhs? w-ruh-tea-rhioos?), which is why it's not necessarily a good title.

I think point #3 applies the most here, it's a long word that doesn't exist in any known language with confusing and possibly ambiguous pronunciation.  That's my point, in all its simplicity. Needless overcomplication.  That's why I (personally) think it's a bad choice for a title.

also LB, just because some pro game did it, doesn't mean it's a good idea.

**I make exception for games which have games for good reason, usually for comedic value (such as "AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity)
Title: Re: [RMXP]Wrutearius: The Well in the Woods
Post by: legacyblade on January 15, 2010, 06:12:31 am
Not to be rude or anything, but you're quoting yourself as an attempt to appeal to the authority. It just doesn't work. And while I don't think just because a pro does it means it's ok, I also don't think an inde game maker's opinion is the ultimate source of truth on a matter. So stop giving him crap, it's his game and he can title it as he wishes.

@Legacyblade:
Thank you.. .. ..

@NAMKOR:
You're absolutely wrong.
Just because you won't find the word in an english dictionary alongside a definition doesn't mean it has no value. "Wrutearius" is the name of the planet that the game takes place on. A fantasy world.. .. ..and being a fantasy (not real) world, I can't see a good reason to name the planet based on a sum of words to be found in an english dictionary. I'm not going out on a limb here to create my own grammar rules to justify its use; I'm using english grammar principles to create something unique that connects to the work.

The subtitle "Well in the Woods" pertains to the bond between earth and the fantasy world.
Every word in the title of this game has been carefully thought out and bears a direct relation to the story in some way.

And I don't mean to be a prick here, but just because some people may or may not have more difficulty with pronunciation and grammar than others, that doesn't give them the right to shun on a person's creative work. There is truly nothing complicated about this word.

WRU (write)
TEAR (teardrop)
IUS (self-explanitory)

All principles used to create this word come from english grammar and can be found in thousands of words in the english dictionary. Using one's knowledge to be creative does not "overly complicate" things. Especially when the product is a simple 4syllable word.

While I agree with what you said, I think a way you could possibly improve the ease at which the name can be pronounced (I had to stop and read through it), is to change the spelling to Reutearius. That doesn't look as cool, but it is a bit easier. But still, it's a fantasy word, it doesn't have to look like the word "pie" to be a good title, so whatever you like best. It's your title.
Title: Re: [RMXP]Wrutearius: The Well in the Woods
Post by: winkio on January 15, 2010, 11:28:58 am
I'm not going to say that you can't use that name for you game, I'm just going to say that it's not very catchy.  It's not a title that you can easily say in conversation, and it is also visually confusing.  Because of both of those factors, it is not going to get as much attention as it would otherwise.

The best names for games are based around one two syllable word: zelda, halo, metroid, etc.  Of course, you can have other words around it, but a two syllable word is the most memorable (also evidenced outside of gaming: starbucks, walmart, apple, etc.)  Of course, sometimes, it's a 3 syllable word instead, but it still can be said very easily and is recognizable.

Also, could everyone stop taking everything so personally?
Title: Re: [RMXP]Wrutearius: The Well in the Woods
Post by: legacyblade on January 15, 2010, 11:32:37 am
Were we taking things personally?  :O.o:

But I do agree with you winkio, the title isn't very catchy. Well in the woods is catchy, but Wruterius isn't. Personally, however, I find three sylable words to be more catchy, provided it's a made up fantasy-ish name (tales of...arcadia, symphonia, phantasia, etc.)
Title: Re: [RMXP]Wrutearius: The Well in the Woods
Post by: tSwitch on January 15, 2010, 06:25:05 pm
regardless of if it's simple to you, if I gave the word 'Wrutearius' to a randomly selected group of 50 people, I'm pretty sure most of them would pronounce it wrong, or not even try.

Not to mention the fact that English pronunciation rules aren't universal either.  For example tear and tear are two different words, one means a small orb of water that falls from one's eye, the other is a rip, or to rip.  Spelled the same, but one is pronounced 'teer' and one is pronounced 'tair.'  English is a needlessly complex language, making it nearly impossible to mix and match rules to make something sound interesting without making it ambiguous at the same time.

It has nothing to do with having more difficulty with grammar and pronunciation and everything to do with the fact that English is the most redundant, complex, and ambiguous language in the world, which makes things like this even more complicated.

I'm not going to say that you can't use that name for you game, I'm just going to say that it's not very catchy.  It's not a title that you can easily say in conversation, and it is also visually confusing.  Because of both of those factors, it is not going to get as much attention as it would otherwise.

Exactly.  Your title is the first impression you give people.  If nobody knows anything about your game and sees "Wrutearius: The Well in the Woods" that's all they know about your game.  They don't know it's the name of the world, they don't know The Well in the Woods is some kind of metaphorical bond between earth and the world, they don't know -anything- except a title.  The title needs to pull in the player, interest them into reading further, to find out more about your game.  That's why it needs to be catchy, easy to read, and easy to pronounce.  The same as with any logo, it should be memorable, not complex.

Arcadia isn't a mad up word (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arcadia)
Symphonia isn't a made up word (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symphonia)
Phantasia isn't a made up word (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantasia_%28poetess%29)

Oh yeah, and I don't appreciate my integrity being attacked LB.  I didn't quote my topic to try and throw my SMod badge around like I'm some kind of gaming demogod with an ego as big as a Zepplin.  I just didn't want to type it a second time, and figured it'd be more useful to quote it, rather than just linking to it.

Lastly, some positive with a nut of negative, the story looks pretty neat everything else aside, and could very well be something unique and fun to play if made properly.  But the 'teenage hero' thing is getting kind of dry and overdone, not to mention that I have a 13 year old little brother and there's no way he could realistically go on a monster hunting adventure in his sweatshirt.  But I suppose realism isn't really the point so it's just a point of believability.

Oh, didn't know those weren't made up words.  :^_^':

And I wasn't trying to challenge your integrity, it just seemed like you were quoting yourself as an appeal to the authority. And it really bothers me when people create their own standard and try and force it on everyone else (SDK anyone?). I also wrote that post at like three in the morning, so I sounded a bit snappy. I do agree that the title is a bit hard to read. But after the multitude of fantasy books I've read, I'm good at getting through names like Okri'sh'n'nu'gangunuwrugandetu and alendrasivanianitarium, so I'm a bit desensitized. I think, though, if calintz likes the title, we should just accept that, ya know? I mean it's his game, the first impression should match what he wants it to be. (even if said first impression includes a word most likely to be skipped over or read as "wer i tus" (how most of my friends pronounced it at first glance, when they didn't say "w...that word")

I won't argue over this any longer.. .. ..
This isn't a commercial project to be viewed and played by thousands.

It's a simple RPG created by a fan of fantasy for a small number of people on a forum.
I apologize if the title is hard to read. I excelled in english class, and reading and grammar comes easy to me.

I assumed(perhaps my fault) that most would be able to read the title without any problems what-so-ever, and even now, I still believe many of you used overly exaggerated examples to validate your reasons. The pronunciation attempts listed are more likely to be made by 2 and 3graders, not by kids with a high school reading level. I'm being 100% honest when I say that I don't know a single person who sees the letters (WR) side by side and tries to pronounce the W before the R.

The only real pronunciation trouble that I can even possibly see being a problem is the (TEAR) section, because I could imagine some people wanting to pronounce the word as tear(tear drop) or possibly tear(tearing paper). Everything else is 100% standard and visually self-explanatory.

So, I guess the only thing I can do is to apologize to those who experience difficulty reading the title of my game.
If it would please you, pretend it isn't there, and skip right to "Well in the Woods," but the name stays as is.. .. ..

Thanks to NAMKOR and the rest for this wonderful deliberation.
I realize that you were only trying to help me see that I "may or may not" have made a simple "promotion" error if you will, but I simply disagree. I was open to your points, but they just don't drive home. Wrutearius it is.. .. ..

To end this discussion, I think the title is catchy and knew how to pronounce it from when I first saw it. And I'm german. Take that. lol

Also, this looks interesting. I may not be a really good beta tester, but could I test it when the demo is out?

I'm just gonna say that I don't feel "Wrutearius" goes very well with "The Well in the Woods," but that's just me, and I can't come up with anything better myself. But it doesn't give me the vibe I'm thinking TWitW does.

Also, I remember way back when all of your stuff was Bridge to Terabithia inspired. That was forever ago, eh?

Yeah, Lol.. .. ..
I kinda surprised you remembered that, and it still basically is.

Yes, you can beta test the DEMO.
