I kind of have a rant lined up because I see people on Facebook and Tumblr posting "Remember remember the 5th of november... et cetera". It really gets at me because clearly some people don't understand what Guy Fawkes was. I know V for Vendetta popularised the mask but the whole reference was that V blows up the parliament building in London.

Why are people remembering a terrorist Catholic plot to assasinate a protestant king. I'm an atheist but it makes you look like retards. V wore a Guy Fawkes mask because he was fighting against the government like Guy Fawkes. V blows up the parliament. If you want to represent terrorism and killing people. Then great, creds to you but maybe you should sit the fuck down, stop being children and stop idolizing anarchy and violence. Like seriously get to grips with what you're endorsing. Also, Occupy movement, ditch the masks as well or tell Anonymous get lost, when you buy those masks you're fueling the "evil" capitalist machine that you're protesting, you're plastic mask was made by some underpaid worker who's mistreated and forced to work in dreadful conditions. Take a deeper look at what you're actually representing and endorsing and make sure you're not contradicting yourself. And it just annoys me that something which represents an attempted murder, a lot of people would've died and that bothers me, especially as someone who tries to practice ahimsa or non-harm, this extends to my veganism but that's another argument. Especially since Anonymous protest people who are religious, namely scientologists without realising the irony of their situations, they're wearing a mask of someone who attempted to kill people for his religion. And I really can't stand Anonymous, they're chaos and destruction and burning hatred of society and order masquerading as freedom fighters or a force of good, yeah I agree with them on some things but the way they treat normal people disgusts me. It's a leaderless movement full of idiots.

V for Vendetta is one of my favourite graphic novels and films but I don't view V as the hero. And it doesn't make you cool it makes you look like you're part of a flock of black sheep.

Intelligent Debate / Multiculturalism
July 27, 2011, 03:33:57 pm
So I was watching a news report on the attacks in Norway on youtube, and there were a load of islamphobic right wing fucks in the comments, calling him a hero and others declaring the multiculturalism had failed. So I added a comment
QuoteMulticulturalism has not failed. There are virtually no problems in Ireland and there are people from all over the world, Australia is full of immigrants and although there are those who are malcontent with immigration, it has not resulted in mass murder. Who cares about Islam, Islam and Christianity are pretty much the same thing, both religions are a waste of time, they just cause trouble. But I still respect peoples rights to have their own religion. We're all human, why should it matter?
Yeah I went all over the place, but I was annoyed at these people.

These are the two comments  I got back
Quotelol please understand that ireland isnt half as tainted as england, and australia let the asylum seekers drown or redivert them to malaysia, the immigration only allows people with useful qualifications and a stupid amount of medical checks. Two completely different things, and i wish the best for ireland, and for the immigration to be minimals, dont give the shit excuse "we are all human" aswell, there is no NEED to push for multiculturalism, no other ethnic country does this.

QuoteBecause when muslims achieve majority demographically they'll take power thanks to democracy, destroy it and impose shariah and their way of life on everybody and therefore destroy European civilisation. Do you want your granddaughter to wear niqab mandatory and your grandson to pray 5 times a day in fear of lashing? To want an end to any liberty that doesn't comply with Allah's will? The best part is that when it happens, left-wingers will be slaughtered by their beloved muslims

These people are fearmongering. Trying to tell people that Islam will become dominant. Well you know what? I don't give a fuck. Really, who cares. Most countries in Europe have a secular system, probably all. Islam becoming popular won't change that. These people who talk about Shariah law like it's some great evil, I'm no fan of it. But I find it hard to believe it will EVER happen. If it does, do you think people will take it? No. I'm just annoyed at the solidarity people are showing with Breivik. I will never condone violence against  innocent people as a form of political protest. Regardless of circumstances. Really it just makes me sick, that other people could view human beings like that.

The only way multiculturalism will fail is if bigoted, racist people refuse to accept other cultures. America is the perfect example of multiculturalism being a success. The country itself is founded on a multitude of races. Food, accents, language etc. All a result of a mixing pot of ethnicities, races, religions. In fact we can thank the multicultural society in America for Soul, RnB, Jazz, Blues, Hip Hop, and even Rock. These genres of music came about as a result of people originally from Africa fusing their traditional music with that of people originally from Europe et cetera. Most Americans embrace their heritage and are descendant from people of different ethnicities and races. I can be sure of this merely from the "Stereotyping" thread over on Laptops and Tea where we've been listing which countries our ancestors originated from. Some people in America are Islamaphobic as well, but there in the minority and Americans accept Islam despite the mainstream media bombarding them with "MUSLIMS BAD! THEY BLOW YOU UP!"  Regardless of that America is the perfect example of different ethnicities getting along and founding a great nation.

Sorry I'm bigoted against bigots. lol.

I'm interested as to what other people think? Is anyone here opposed to multiculturalism? If so why?

Intelligent Debate / Animal Rights
January 16, 2011, 01:41:37 pm
I'm a vegetarian/vegan. I'm trying to cut out dairy products at them moment. I've dropped milk and butter. But I still eat cheese and eggs and chocolate. Being vegan is difficult in Ireland, I'm just trying to source good alternatives and my parents aren't being very co-operative. Anyway, I'm a strong believer in animal rights. I don't think they should have some rights that we do. I mean, I don't think we should be making our horses senators like Caligula. But I do think that animals should have their freedom. Imprisoning them, torturing them, drugging them and murdering them just for food is wrong. There are alternatives which aren't damaging to the environment and the animals. Maybe I'm a bit of a radical, what do you think? Should animals have their freedom?

I have about four songs which are all in the recording stage, I want to make some cool visualisation videos for them when I upload them to youtube. Does anyone have any suggestions for a program or tool which I could use to create a visualisation which I could use in WMM.

I was wondering if you could start a sub forum in academics on history. Then I would post there every day with my historical topic of the day and the most hilarious historical mistakes. My favourite being: Magellan circumcised the globe with a 40 foot clipper. The unfortunate student obviuosly intended to say Magellan circumnavigated the globe with a 40 foot clipper, although I think saying the boat was a clipper would be an inaccuracy as clippers only became common when the tea trade first started.

As some of you may be aware, The Niche used Webs to set up our site Writers unity. I would like to change the website to something less....Webs. I'd rather not use plain HTML because I'm still learning and I'd like to use something which would allow me to create a more advanced looking website. If anyone has any suggestions for a website builder and and hosting, I'd appreciate it. Also being free is very important, seeing as The Niche and I are, well too young to create a paypal account and even if we were we wouldn't spend money when there is always a free alternative out there. The site would mostly consist of extracts from our collaboration novel which is still a work in progress and our own personal writing. Links and a facebook button would be cool too and Webs, the bastards, seem very reluctant to make it easy to put in a facebook button. Anywho, I'm rambling again. Hope someone gets back to me soon.

Entertainment / Coolest Musical Visualisation ever?
December 23, 2010, 09:58:34 am
So Mr.Doob, someone I hope your familiar with, I believe he did the Google with no gravity, made this http://mrdoob.com/lab/actionscript/av/saville/. He took the first song on the Joy Division album Unknown Pleasures, Disorder, and made this visualisation style thing inspired by the album cover. I really want it as my screensaver.... Still if you love Joy Division this is for you. IAN CURTIS WILL LIVE FOREVER! RIP

Intelligent Debate / Is there such thing as a just war?
December 22, 2010, 05:19:21 pm
 Is war ever justified?
Wars have started over a lot of things:
Territory
Resources
Religion
Racism
Political Ideology
The tiniest diplomatic disputes
Sometimes for no reason at all
People often say to me that the Allies fighting against Hitler and the Axis Powers was just. They also cite the Atlantic charter laid out by Churchill and Roosevelt(I think). This charter mentioned how countries' sovereignty had been denied. However from a British point of view, this was quite hypocritical seeing as the still had colonies and were denying the indigenous people their rights. I thought I'd just mention that because it shows how things can be twisted to make a war look more righteous and just. I do accept that the allies were under threat from Nazi Germany so they were justified in fighting back but Britain had a hand wrapped around a few valuable countries and were interested in expanding. However when the denying of people's sovereignty comes starts on Britain's door step, then it's wrong.
I ramble...
If anyone has anything to say about war being justified and if they have any examples of just wars, pray do tell.
Oh and if anyone thinks I'm being biased or anything and is about tell me to go become a Nazi and saying that the Axis was evil and bent and world domination they should take a look and Britain and America now. I'm not biased about WW2, I'm stepping back and looking at what happened on both sides rather then just focusing on how Germany and the Axis was incorrect. I am glad the Allies won otherwise my country mightn't be independent now.

I don't write music as such, it just happens. I could be learning something new on piano and then BAM! I start playing some sequence or melody which over time develops into a fledgling piece. I kind of new here and I don't know if I'm allowed to post links, so if you want a listen to some of it, to maybe help me define it, just say so and I'll put up a link. At the moment, only two of my pieces are actually on the internet but I will hopefully be recording another three or four and then uploading.

So it's been almost a year since I posted that, and a lot has changed. Mostly, the fact that I've gotten a new DAW, Ableton Live, so my music is of a much better quality now :D So I thought I'd share all of my most recent songs.
