News / Suggestions / Feedback / Since it was irking me...
December 28, 2011, 12:54:25 am
On the dark themes, it seems that the Stats box and the Online Users / Thu'um Box images aren't transparent, so there's that awful white background. It's a relatively minor thing, but I was a bit bored and decided to take a stab at blacking things up.

info.gif:

online.gif:

online.gif was a real pain, but I did what I could in a somewhat reasonable amount of time. Blizz, if you like the new images, would you care to change them? ^^

EDIT: Matched the black color to the one on the web-page.

Welcome! / Newbie's Guide to Chaos Project
January 18, 2011, 11:06:42 pm
Newbie's Guide to Chaos Project

First, welcome to Chaos Project! This guide is here to give you some direction in the forum and familiarize yourself with everything. The guide is essentially formatted into an FAQ-style layout for ease of viewing to everyone. Bare with me now! Anytime there's a sentence mentioning a link, just go click on the blue text saying "here" (or "this"), though you probably already know that, right? :V:

Q: All right...so what should I do first?
A: If you're new to message boards, you may unfamiliar with certain emoticons and acronyms. Blizzard's topic right here can help in getting yourself to decipher this "language". If you're unfamiliar with how the forums work, or how a SMF (Simple Machines Forum) works, then refer to the Help link part of the forum here. It's also conveniently at the navigation bar up top; just between Chat and Search.

A must-read for every user though are the Forum Rules, listed here. Please do not overlook this! Communities each have different rules one must follow, so taking a good look at the rules can already get you in safe hands before any possible crisis happens. :xD: There's also Rules and Guidelines for Moderators, which, although not necessary to read, can give you a good idea of the forums atmosphere and further help you get the rules down. You can find that topic over here.

Q: Where can I find resources?
A: Resources are conveniently located on the Forum Index Page in Boards. Some of the best resources are able to get into the Chaos Project Database for easy access. There isn't much to say about here, but the best thing to inform you about is Chaos Project's fully automated Script Database. This particular Script Database can make things ridiculously easy to search for whatever script you desire. You can check it out over here.

For other resources, not only can you check the Resource Database and Board for any goodies, but there's also a Resource Link Thread complete with descriptions to suit your various needs. You can look at that here. Please note that due to financial, personal, or miscellaneous reasons, or especially the test of time, some websites on the list may not exist anymore. That is, unfortunately, something we all must accept (or not, just find or even make more :V: ).

Q: And what if I can't find what I'm looking for?
A: I suggest you read Rule 7 of the forums here.
Quote from: Blizzard on January 07, 2008, 06:01:58 pm
7. Use the Search function. There may already be a topic that exists that you're going to post about. If you have a problem with RPG Maker, chances are someone else has had this problem too. Search to see if the topic exists. If you can't find it, then feel free to post it; we won't get mad if you've actually TRIED to search.

Pretty please?

Q: How can I change my avatar (The image on the left side of the post below your username), or signature (Some text that appears at the end of each of your posts)?
A: On the navigation bar at the top of the forum, there's a section called Profile. Upon there, you're able to change many settings relating to the forum. For changing an avatar and signature, click on the section called "Forum Profile Information". Remember to read Rule 2 of the Forum Rules and make sure that your signature, if you so choose to have one, follows forum rules. As a side-note, you're also able to change the theme of Chaos-Project by clicking the section "Look and Layout Preferences". :)

Q: How do I add an image or spoiler?
A: Use the following code for images:

[img]http://imagesite.com/image.png[/img]

And use for the following code for spoilers:
[spoiler]Text or image to hide[/spoiler]

You can edit what the spoiler button says by following this:
[spoiler=TITLE TEXT]Text or image to hide[/spoiler]

Q: What are levels, and how should they affect me?
A: Some communities have a karma or reputation system based on a points-based system where users and up or lower each other's "karma" for whatever action they do. Levels work the same way. In order to be able to level up or down somebody, you must have at least ten posts. You can only level up/down the same person once per every two hours. To level someone up or down, go to any of their posts, see their level number, and click the link you deem appropriate.

Don't worry about levels too much. They are not part of some intricate online RPG, or they're not there to have some elitist community of Level 100+ members pick on lower levels. No, of course not. Just treat it as whatever you want it to be. If someone made an epic post or done a good deed, feel free to level them up! If someone's being a complete idiot and breaking rules, feel free to level them down. Your actions will remain completely anonymous.

Also, since levels don't really have any tangible meaning, don't feel depressed if your level is down on the ropes. If your level is low, then consider that as the community's reactions to your behavior. Perhaps reconsidering in how you behave in the forums can be the most beneficial way to up your level, instead of whining or even getting banned.

Q: What are these titles under my username?
A: These are called membergroups! The more you post, the higher your rank will be. :D Of course, don't use this as an excuse to start spamming. You still need to follow the Forum Rules, after all! The membergroups goes as this:

TitleRequired post count
n00b0
Basic Member10
Reborn Member100
Celestial Dreamer250
Ethereal Devastator500
Astral Trancist1000
Lexima Warrior2000
Guardian of Chaos3000
Chaos Ultimate5000
Has over 9000 posts9001

Q: Hey! Some people have some really cool rank titles that aren't part of the list. What's up with that?
A: Those are custom titles awarded to users for anything notable they've done. Don't ask for one; you might not be getting the title you're hoping for...

Q: Is it okay to necropost?
A: If you read Rule 3 of the Forum Rules, you'll see that necroposting is fine as long as the necropost is constructive and relevant enough. A good rule of thumb is that when replying, if you see a red warning stating the topic is older than 90 days, if your post, in your eyes, provides enough new information or is relevant enough to revive the thread, then post. Otherwise, it's best to stay away from such inactive posts, especially if your post is only a small comment.

Q: What am I allowed to ask on the Shoutbox at the bottom of the page?
A: The Shoutbox is used for any amusing chatter, fun discussion, and the like. Happy stuff! You're also able to ask simple, quick questions in the Shoutbox. However...The Shoutbox is NOT for:

  • Answering complex questions, such as script or event system help. Create a topic instead! Not only more people will be able to look at your topic, your message will have a higher chance of NOT getting ignored.

  • Advertising your website or request threads. You can say that something is done and link to the topic, but don't just make a request topic and then post a link to that request in the Shoutbox the next second. Also, shouting about your website isn't right at all too. Post on the Advertising Board (After 30 useful posts, of course).

  • Spamming, rule-breaking, or anything of the like. This one is pretty obvious.

  • Orgies.

Q: How can I change my display name?
A: Politely ask an active Global Moderator or Blizzard to change your username. Of course, it's up to us to decide if it's tasteful enough to fly. Details and a list of changed display names are here. Please note that if your display name is changed, you still have to login using your old username (e.g. Even if I changed my name to something else, I still need to use Starrodkirby86 to login).

Q: How do I join Chaos Project Chat?
A: Try clicking on the Chat Link up top on the Navigation Bar. Alternatively, if you want to use a third party IRC client such as mIRC, XChat, or Trillian, then follow these two posts here and here.

Q: I need help with scripts.  What information should I post to get help quickly and easily?
A: In your post asking for help, include the names of the scripts if they are on this site, or links to the scripts if they are offsite.  If you are getting any error messages, post those as well.  Depending on the circumstances, you might want to post the names of any other custom scripts in your project that could cause a conflict.

If you want to refer to specific lines or a section of code, use the [code]                [/code] tags.

If you need help with a script from this site, you might be able to save yourself some time by looking through the script topic in the database to see if you question has already been asked or answered.  Also, you should refer to this post to be sure your scripts are in the right order.

Q: I have a question about the forums that isn't listed here.
A: If your question is about something in RPG Making, post in the appropriate board. If it's something about the forum in general, then by all means, make a post in this topic here!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy your time in Chaos Project! Become a great member and enjoy the community. :)

Video Games / Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Source: http://www.gamespot.com/events/captivate10/story.html?sid=6259098&pid=995376

I'm sure whoever has went to an arcade has seen the likes of Marvel vs. Capcom 2...probably one of the most famous fighters besides Street Fighter II: The World Warrior and whatnot.

And so...after like, 10 years or so, they're finally making a sequel!

There's 30 characters made so far...The team is supposedly working on more by the time it gets released around Spring 2011 (?). It's coming for the PS3 and 360.

The whole game's rendered similarly to Street Fighter IV and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. There's also newcomers into the fray like Resident Evil's Chris Redfield.

Now let us enjoy and bathe ourselves with Iron Man's Iron Man 2 looks and the Hulk's eccentric haircut.

So yeah, this information's about a few days old, but if you haven't heard about it yet, then it's still news, yes? (I haven't thought about posting it until now :P )

Video Games / Professor Layton
September 07, 2009, 04:54:20 pm

Because we all know that the best gentlemen are the ones with top hats. :naughty: (OK, I don't get that reference)

Professor Layton is a DS puzzle game franchise. The second one's arriving on shores, and there's a third one coming up~

The puzzles can range from a wussy difficulty to a real head-scratcher, especially later in the game.

It's a great series, in my opinion, and some of the soundtrack's really excellent. *w* Discuss~

Recruitment / Looking for avid Lucky☆Star Fan
August 04, 2009, 11:42:53 am
--NOTE: THIS IS NOT RELATED TO RPG MAKER--

Hey~

This is quite interesting and unusual that I'm dealing with a recruitment request, but it's to go forth my own projects. What's even more unusual is the type of person I'm looking for. No, it's not a scripter, artist, eventer, or any of the general things like that. Rather, I'm searching for someone who has been keeping tabs with Lucky Star, preferably the anime (Unless the manga and anime are incredibly similar).

What I'm looking for:

-Someone who knows the following characters by heart and their personalities well (i.e. if so-and-so were in this situation, what would so-and-so do?)

  • Konata

  • Tsukasa

  • Kagami

  • Miyuki

-Someone who knows the environment of Lucky Star well. In other words, the setting, such as the Hiiragis' house.
-Someone with some knowledge of writing, plot, or whatever. This is to make the brainstorming process much easier.
-Someone who I can easily have contact with. Forum PMs won't work. The following messengers I use:

  • MSN (Mostly on)

  • AIM (Sometimes on)

  • Skype (Sometimes on)

If you don't see me there, you can always see if I'm online osu!, if you are a member of that community. I would probably be modding or mass ranking.
-Someone who doesn't hate the visual novel genre (e.g. Phoenix Wright). If you don't have any knowledge on that, please be open-minded.  :-*

Please post in this thread if you are interested. I'll update with information as I remember what to add. xD I'm not looking for many people, mostly just one person to take this. Thanks much.

<_<;

As you may know (Or not), AT&T is a widely popular mobile phone company and of the like. However, they also have a DSL service. 15.5% of American Internet users are using the AT&T Internet Service (Apparently me as well considering they ate up SBC Global, or something). Just recently, AT&T has blocked users from viewing parts of img.4chan.org (Particularly /b/ and /r9k/). This isn't just a hoax as well. /b/ can't load for me. /r9k/ can't load for me. The other boards can.

This isn't just a joke. This is freakin' net censorship. Why are we, or, well, the users of AT&T, not allowed to view some part of the Internet? That's not right. This can easily produce a chain effect, especially if AT&T gains money from it. What happens? Other ISPs will most likely follow with AT&T if such actions are popular. This might result in not only 4chan being blocked, but other sites that are...yeah, I'm sure you get the picture.

Sources:

And uh...have a video as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWt0XUocViE

Basically, if you can do anything to stop AT&T from censoring 4chan, do it.

=3=

I feel so helpless considering this place uses AT&T.

He just got a cardiac arrest today...

Some sources are saying he's not dead, but the sources that are...they're adding up. :/

It's best to remember Michael Jackson through his music career and not through the turns for the worst. I found this to be a saddening event. And hopefully, he's not dead...But...life isn't always so optimistic.

Video Games / osu! - rhythm is just a click away
May 03, 2009, 09:05:57 pm

What is osu!?
osu! is a rhythm game that plays similarly to the Nintendo DS Game "Elite Beat Agents" and "Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!" You basically 'click' or press circles to the beat while maintaining high life and do well throughout the song. It is rather hard to explain, so Gameplay videos can help:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ulovLQ63eQc (Elite Beat Agents)
Sk8er Boi

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PkK-67WZ0J8 (Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan [multiscreen])
Zoku

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3iwST_YrNs (osu! [multiscreen, recorded by mattyu007])
Battle With the Four Fiends

So how do I play?
Move the cursor with your mouse. When the approach circle (A giant ring that gets smaller) is about the same size as the hit-circle, click it. You'll either get a 300, 100, 50, or an X (Self-explanatory). There are certain notes known as sliders as well. To do those, hold the mouse button as the approach circle is the same size as the slider's hitcircle. You then move according to the slider ball. Note that sometimes these sliders repeat! Lastly, there are notes known as spinners. When you see a spinner, spin in circles as fast as you can to net as many bonus points possible.

That's the basics of playing. If you downloaded the game, you probably would get the beatmap osu! tutorial. This helps immensely as well. :P

What makes osu! fun?
The game has an online ranking and a very tight integration with the community. Online scoreboards are there as well. Basically, the more skilled you are, the more you expose yourself, you'll be quite known as a pro. Easier difficulties may be boring, but it's really the more difficult ones that provide a true challenge (Or the ones that are challenges to you already). osu! also has one of the best Taiko simulators around, and there is a 'Falling Fruit' special mode known as 'Catch the Beat'.

Kaze no Fantasy

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQjmCkxok0w (Catch the Beat video, by BagnoGamer)
Triple Baka!!!

How do I download beatmaps?
You must have a registered account. After you login, go to the Beatmaps link at the navigation bar and select Ranked Beatmaps. Feel free to shuffle through the list to your liking.

I suck at this game a lot. How can I get better?
You may need to check out Beginner's Training and perhaps get better on that.
http://osu.ppy.sh/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5456

This game is too boring.
Some people don't like certain games. It's just their tastes. If perhaps osu! is boring, maybe you're playing too easy difficulties or you're not challenging yourself at all. Why not get a higher rank? Why not get a #1 at some certain song? Is it because that's impossible? Heck no. If I can get pretty high, then I'm sure you can too after eventual skill. You can play casually as well as a nice relaxing thing to do. Stop when you're frustrated (Do something else, play another song maybe or whatever). It's generally anger that makes people go, "This thing sucks."

I have further questions. Where can I ask?
By all means, feel free to post here or contact me (or another user) on osu!. I recommend you post here or talk to me or another osu! player on this forum as intolerance to ignorance might be around some areas in the site (or chat).

How good are you at osu! ?
I registered during September 22, 2007, but I went inactive until October 30th or so. By now, I'm within the heart of the Top 100 and I have a few new ranked Beatmaps and #1s to boot. (I'm not trying to brag, but it's true...)

If you're an osu! player, feel free to post here. :) I virtually already know who plays and who doesn't, but it's nice to see a few people who aren't there. If you're a player and you're willing to go for a rank sort of thing, I can set up a 'CP scoreboard' here. Just post in your name that you're interested in being here and I'll just amend changes.

There's a website I found that says about saving energy. How? Why, it's by making your monitor use low, desaturated and non-bright colors, also known as black and shades of gray. Ha. Ha. Ha. I probably made it sound not cool.

Well, I came across a place called blackle.com (Or a friend showed me actually) that is a black version of Google.com . No, I'm not being racist. :P A blog post in 2007 proposed that there can be thousands of megawatts saved had Google been using black as the background of their website. That's what blackle.com tries to do.

(Link to blog post: http://ecoiron.blogspot.com/2007/01/black-google-would-save-3000-megawatts.html )

Oh, and I can see how the Dark Theme of CP can kick in for times like this. :V:

Video Games / Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4
February 08, 2009, 09:35:52 pm

What exactly is Shin Megami Tensei, or Persona? It's simply an RPG game where you control various Personas to achieve victories in various dungeons. I don't know what the premise or overview is in the first three games, but I know for a fact that you can control various amounts of Personas from fusing them or beating up enemies.

Persona 4 is easily the best Persona in the series, and not only that, probably one of the best RPGs on the PS2 if you're able to play mature games. It covers various (slightly disturbing?) themes and has a random dungeon system. The dungeons themselves range from a castle to even a strip-club. Just think of the bosses... :naughty:

There's also a Social Link System which works similarly to a Dating Sim in some cases. The more you befriend characters, the more Personas you can make with power, and a bonus can be granted too. :3

Can't get any better screenshot though...Unless this counts:

You can discuss other Persona games here...And you can discuss the dirty Personas if you must. O.o

Video Games / Cave Story ~ Doukutsu Monogatari
January 14, 2009, 01:23:14 am

Somehow, Japan always brings some of the greatest gems ever into the world, like Super Mario Bros., Sonic, Final Fantasy, and other epics...And yet here we go, another epic pops up somewhere along 2004.

I might as well give you the exact description Pixel, the [sole] developer of Cave Story, gave for his game.
QuoteCave Story is a jumping-and-shooting action game.
Explore the caves until you reach the ending.
You can also save your game and continue from where you left off.

Although it may seem simple, this game is far from it. The actual gameplay itself is very reminiscent of the Castlevania and Metroid series, as it has been compared to commonly, positively. Pixel worked on this masterpiece for a total of five years, and what came out of it was one of the most addicting and best Freeware games ever.

There is an actual storyline to this. You are stuck on a floating island. You're a robot who, to just simply put it, got struck with amnesia. But it is soon that you learn a new ruler has arrived on the island and is plotting to rule the world through an intricate plan requiring red flowers. The premise may seem stupid, but I'm removing some key points. :P

What makes the best part of the game is some of the difficulty. It's not totally frustrating, but you would need some deep platforming skills. The final secret level, the infamous Sacred Ground, is absolutely brutal and can basically rape your butt if you don't know how to consistently keep yourself unhurt the whole time. I prompted myself to post this thread after beating the stage...which took me...a week or so...to finally defeat.

Game Screenshots:
Spoiler: ShowHide

Spoiler: ShowHide

The game is also coming for the Wii on WiiWare. The game had a whole Vectored graphic change, and I must say, it looks dazzling. The music is also remixed, but fortunately it is a toggle feature (In Cave Story, the music is 8-bit).

Entertainment / Beat the Mind-Reading Genie
November 30, 2008, 12:05:14 am
He is known as Akinator, the Web Genius! :o

http://en.akinator.com

So basically, here's the little shindig in this...
In all essences, it's an automated online 20 questions. Try to think of any fictional or real character (Don't be too obscure though, no one will be able to guess Minor Character #5 or Jason from CP) and ask Akinator questions. It's actually pretty amusing. My first five characters to him were this:
(Green are the ones Akinator got correct, Red are the ones Akinator got wrong)

Luke fon Fabre (Tales of the Abyss)
Cecil (Final Fantasy IV)
Jade Curtiss (Tales of the Abyss)
Presea Combatir (Tales of Symphonia)
Ike Greil (Fire Emblem)

And some random ones...

Knuckles the Echidna (Sonic)
Daler Mehndi
Van Grants (Tales of the Abyss)
The Buddha
Motoi Sakuraba

Have fun, tolerate the loading times.

By the way, you can make him learn a character by answering all the questions he asks you, and then pressing No, and then typing the character's name.

I will not be here on Friday, Saturday, or most of Sunday. I have a school trip I'm going to, and I actually am looking forward to this trip with fine gusto. Being in the confined area of the computer 24/7 is unhealthy, I recommend you people should go out sometimes.

Anyway, I'll take lots of pictures and may upload some here. This thread may not be important on the flipside, but note I am a Global Moderator here so someone from the staff leaving may cause a giant hole for the weekend, especially if someone goes wild. I'm relying on you guys, GAX, Blizz, Ulta, and shdw.

Anyway, later.

Resource Link Thread

I'm sure you seen something similar to this in other forums, and it's about high time that Chaos-Project has a Resource Link Thread of its own. Here's a giant mega-load of resources for anyone to view.

Graphic Resources

http://naramura.sakura.ne.jp/
This Japanese site contains some of the most popular and epic battlers of the RTP's characters. If you had seen a detailed drawing of Arshes, Basil, or any default character, chances are they had come from Naramura. Not only there are drawings of our "favorite" RTP Characters, there are some custom battlers, many of them attached with a Character Set. Lastly, if you explore around, you can find miscellaneous RPG Maker resources, simply click on "Game" in the site's Navigation Bar.
The Naramura Project has been closed indefinitely. To download the resources, please refer to this link.
http://void-media.net/shio/Naramura.rar (Thanks GAX!)

http://www.teamanti.com/rmxp/
Zanyzora is a small site containing a giant number of tilesets and other neglected resources. Many of the resources in Zanyzora are rips instead of original creations, but it's still all the more to check it out. The interface is extremely easy to go around, and there is a Forum too, at least to my knowledge.

http://www.mediafire.com/?m0knq3mlb9x
http://www.mediafire.com/?qywwnj23cr6
These two packs contain resources for RPG Maker XP. One of them calls itself an RTP, while the other is a pack of Tilesets. Strangely, it's still up. The RTP is around 23-25 MB while the Tilesets is approximately 8 MB.

http://www.mogunet.net/~mack/looseleaf/
Mack is a Japanese Resource Creator that has been most famous for his template of the RTP Male and Female. He's a master of the Character Set Art, and there are lot of sets with intricate poses. He recently gone into RPG Maker VX, which you should check out as well if you're a VX Game Creator.
Mack's site seems to be down for good. However, he has relocated to another website called First Seed Material, which only focuses on VX resources.
Mack also has an online character generator for XP. Fortunately, that's still up, so please check that out too by clicking here!

http://www.freemmorpgmaker.com/tiles.php
Although Eclipse is a free 2-D MMORPG maker, the database of "Tiles" for Eclipse is remarkably similar to RPG Maker XP's. In fact, a lot of the tiles for Eclipse derive from RPG Maker XP's default RTP, an act that is illegal, but let's ignore that fact. ;) All in all, a giant tiles database, and this should definitely help you if you're making a Zelda game.

http://mgshellc.lix.jp/material.html
Mutation Genes Simulation, Technological Development Laboratory, a Japanese site containing resources for EVERY RPG Maker to date (Except for the ultra primitive 95). The images follow a Mechanical, Futuristic, Sci-Fi theme, so for anyone that is interested in creating a game within that theme, they are definitely in luck. There is a wide array of resources, and you can definitely use them for more than just the usual Battler, Picture, Windowskin, whatever.

http://www.geocities.jp/yuh_strawberry/ (Is down :( )
Strawberry Quartz, a site containing some cute but serious resources, and containing a section for RPG Maker VX as well. The site contains a wide array of resources in many categories. There's even an RGSS one, for crying out loud. Overall, a site you should check out definitely, just make sure you know where to navigate (It's not as hard as other sites would be).

http://wild-pd.hp.infoseek.co.jp/frame.html ( Is down :( )
HOT TOKE is THE Japanese site to check out a giant plethora of Battler images. From the threatening to the not-so-threatening, from the behemoths to the somewhat revealing women, Hot Toke is a site to definitely visit and faithfully wait for new monster images. Try downloading them all, individually! XD
It seems that HOT TOKE is down for good. However, an archive of all his battlers has been uploaded for download here.
http://www.mediafire.com/?f7bian1e1jst64g

http://spriters-resource.com/
The Spriters' Resource is a haven for Video Game sprites. Updated every time with a battalion of new sprites, you can use them for fan-games, backgrounds for certain areas, maybe even battlers depending on the size of it. A great choice and highly recommendable if you haven't heard of it yet. Make sure to try and credit all the individual spriters however, and not just the site.

http://neortp.k-server.org/
Neo-RTP, the place where all our little RPG Maker buddies go to school; Japanese school clothes style! Meet Arshes in school clothes! This whole site is devoted to the Japanese High School enveloped into the RPG Maker XP universe. This has been used in various games successfully, chances are you can execute it correctly too.

http://games.sina.com.cn/z/cross/2003-10-28/60455.shtml
A Chinese site containing a lot of material that has the potential to be in a commercial game. Many of the art is beautiful, professional, and interesting. However, word to the wise, the site is very confusing to navigate, don't be surprised if you click on a link and all you get is this unwanted page. Search well, and you'll find a treasure trove.

http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=zh-CN&u=http://www.66rpg.com/&prev=/search%3Fq%3DRMXP%26start%3D80%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26sa%3DN
66rpg seems to be an extensive Chinese RPG Maker site. If one has the ability to read Chinese symbols and such, then they'd have an easy advantage, considering there is a giant amount of articles, guides, and the ability to easily navigate throughout pages. Some of the resources here don't seem to look like resources, but look around anyway, 1300 materials is not a bad number.

http://www.untamed.wild-refuge.net/rpgxp.php
Sithjester is pretty well known in some areas. You probably have seen a few resources made by her, and here's the site that contains everything. Personally none of the stuff is made for me, but for a modern RPG Sithjester has the perfect tiles and characters. An Asian flare is there too, but the site is fully English.

http://www.geocities.jp/hitomikou/my/tukuru/sozai.htm
Most of the resources here are simple recolors, however there is some that have use, such as the Ship, it can be used for a Vehicle Script. The multiple colors of houses can help someone in terms of a more colorful town, and the icons are somewhat impressive. Don't overlook on this site, for what little it offers.

http://k-kamio.hp.infoseek.co.jp/ (Is down :( )
Kamio's resources may be overlooked by other, more impressive sites, such as Hot Toke or Naramura. But the Chibis are really nice to check out, and some of these images are to die for. Take a visit every once in a while, use some of their resources. Kamio can make some nice Chibis.

http://www.backwater-productions.net/RMXP_CSG/index.php
This link "supposedly" leads to a Character Sprite Creator. The Creator contains a lot of resources to make your person, all in nice flash (or php). However, please note that the bases have nudity. I think I remember finding this back on .org or Creation Asylum a long time ago, with people complaining that there were weiners and bubbies on their bases. :P

http://cid6.over-blog.com/categorie-59649.html
A site to what I assume is French, it leads to a few links of albums containing the resource you requested. There's nothing particularly special, except some of the graphics are beautiful. Don't know if the author of the site made it or it is ripped.

http://www.blade2k.net/
This RPG website sort of reminds me of RPG2kNet, what with its project reviews, resource database, and forum community. A bit on the low-activity side, the resource database here contains plenty of graphics from various RPG Maker engines. Enjoy!

http://www.gaminggroundzero.com/
Gaming Ground Zero attempts to have their own resources and be a great RPG Maker community, it just never gets mentioned much. It seems this website has been a niche place for master spriters, so perhaps it's a good idea to take a gander here.

http://www.rpgmaker.net/
RMN, this is one of the somewhat more familiar communities in the RPG Making world. Although the amount of resources is somewhat sparse, the theme is very sleek and nice, and you still might be able to find something of your liking. Anything helps after all.

http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a45/zanyzora/Kaizer%20RTP
The Kaizer RTP is simply the default tileset fit to accommodate those Kaizer templates made by ShowKaizer. Popularized by the detail, many people were disgruntled at the fact the tilesets they had couldn't fit the Kaizer format. That's when these tilesets came along, they are resized to fit them. It's a Photobucket album brought to you by Zanyzora・。Great ripper.

http://forums.bobandgeorge.com/index.php
Bob and George is a spriting community devoted to fan-comics, MS Paint creations, and sprites themselves. Mainly revolved around the video game area than RPG Maker itself, you should use this site as a place to create a fangame, or maybe just to rip a few backgrounds. The Spriters' Resource and the ShyGuy Kingdom can obsolete this site, but remember this is a forum, an active forum too. No registration is required.

http://hypercrescendo.net/foxlee/fls/bmg/recs/recs_spritesterms.php
Bite-Me Graphics really has nice game sprites, it really does. The interface of the site is really clean and there's a Terms of Condition you're welcome to follow... or not. :shifty: However, there are only Character Sets here, not bad ones though. Such a shame this site isn't updated recently.

http://fogu.com/hm
My first reaction to when Blizzard gave me this link was, ツァWhat the heck!? A Harvest Moon site!?ツィ I couldn't find any resources. The only thing I could have considered resources were the character art for the game, which were in the perfect size for battlers. Search around the site, you may find game images you can use for your RPG, especially if you make some strange Harvest Moon fangame of your own.

http://www.gsarchives.net/index2.php
GameSprites Archive is an alternative I like to use when it comes to collecting sprites. There are some interesting items here that no other spriting archive has, like animated gifs, individual sheets, renders, that sort of thing.

http://www.rmrevolution.com/rpg-maker-resources
RMRevolution's Graphic database is entirely user submitted. A lot of these resources are nice original creations, and you can use this as a definite source of icons, containing more than 100 icons. A great site, good stuff.

http://sdb.drshnaps.com/index.htm
Dr. Shnaps is a legendary spriter at best. He has ripped a gigantic motherload of games, and if the Spriters' Resource doesn't have a resource, Dr. Shnaps would have a good chance of having this missing resource. The site is easy to navigate and is reminiscent of the ShyGuy's Kingdom...speaking of that, shall we move on to...

http://fenrir.finalfantasyq.com
Fenrir's Sprite Domain contains a gargantuan amount of sprites from various games, a lot of them niche games. The amount ripped by this spriter may even surpass Dr. Shnaps', but that's a large statement for me to say. The site is very easy to look at, i.e. pleasing to the eye.

http://tsgk.captainn.net
The ShyGuy Kingdom's a great alternative to Spriters' Resource. The site hasn't been updated as much as it should be, but there are a lot of exclusive resources that the almighty Spriters' Resource may not have. Also, it can take up less bandwidth as ShyGuy's Kingdom doesn't use as much images as Spriters' Resource does.

http://dollbits.com/rpg-maker/face-maker.php
The Dollbits Face-Maker is simply the Japanese Face-Maker application integrated into a php interface. I don't know if it's better or not than the application, but you can always try this out if you can't find Face-Maker anywhere on the Internet.

http://www.ugo.com/channels/comics/heromachine2/heroMachine2.asp
I don't understand why I would use this personally, but this nifty device creates your own Hero, aka the HeroMachine. Now, the relation to RPG Maker? You can use this to create battlers, you probably need to resize everything though.

http://www.geocities.jp/kurororo4/looseleaf/ (Thanks nathmatt!)
Mack's original RMXP resources may not be available anymore, but this character generator for RMXP character sets is. A lot of the interface is picture-based, so you don't need to know much Japanese to navigate through the generator. The left side is for male characters and the right side's for females. The categories are as described: Hair, Eyes, Top, Shoulders, Bottom, Background. Clicking on a color within the small style's section will give you that particular color of that style.

http://www.tekepon.net/fsm/ (Thanks game_guy!)
Remember when I said Mack has recently gone into creating VX materials? Well, it seems that he's entirely devoted into making them now. First Seed Material is a site dedicated to VX resources, and is currently thriving upon it with the release of VX Ace. Click on the Downloads section and then refer to the first three VX options (Tilesets, Characters, Facesets) to look at more. The fourth VX set gives examples of what the tilesets should look like ? perfect for any fledging mapper. Be sure to read the first page, the Rules, to understand how they can be used within your game (Open up your trusty Google Translator).

Audio Resources

http://www.vgmusic.com/
VGMusic is the largest and one of the oldest sites containing faithful creations and emulations of Video Games in a MIDI form. Nearly every Video Game Console has been covered, and the user submission is gigantic to say the least. You might find your favorite tune from a well-known game here, perfect to insert in RPG Maker. Just note that even though you're allowed to have these Video Game MIDIs in your game, a familiar tune may ward off some players (If used greatly). Nevertheless, a great site many should visit.

http://www.findsounds.com/
Tired of the same default RPG Maker sound effects and longing for something new and original? FindSounds is a search engine to locate various sound effects at certain filters. It is a great site, if you can handle the quality of the sound effects. It also sounds untrustworthy, personally to me at least.

http://www.midishrine.com/index.php
Unfortunately, the MIDI Shrine easily became obsolete thanks to a better Video Game MIDI site, which I'm not mentioning the name, vgmusic.com. The best source here would be to gather the Anime MIDIs. Listen to them though!

http://www.tam-music.com/freemidi/rpg2000.html
Some Japanese MIDI makers can create masterpieces. TAM-Music is a studio of MIDI composition, and if you're that musically inclined you might remember a few from some projects. TAM-Music is a great place to find some original pieces.

http://www.sakari-infinity.net
Sakari-Infinity is a site devoted to game music and musicians everywhere, a surprising rare treat for RPG Makers everywhere. Flock here, enjoy the tea, and maybe some of these tunes can help you for your game in a large degree.

http://freesound.org
I have used The Freesound project to find Arshes' death scream for Aqua's FOA Demo. The site is very clean to look around, just that there are two catches. In order to download their sound files, you need to register, and you need to know what you're searching for.

http://www.grsites.com/sounds/people001.shtml
Absolute Sound Effects claims to boast 1,980 high quality Sound Effects. It's a perfect retreat to where you want to use your own custom Sound Effects or you can't find a particular one. This site has pop-ups.

http://www.a1freesoundeffects.com
A1 Free Sound Effects. Not only it is a blatant rip-off to A1 Steak Sauce (Or vice versa), this site contains a lot of Sound Effects you can use for your game as well. I don't know if this site is better than any of the ones previously mentioned, but this site I recall using when finding the Pow Hammer Sound Effect for the FOA Demo.

http://www.partnersinrhyme.com/pir/PIRsfx.shtml
Royalty Free Sound Effects has a giant database of your usual Sounds, from those human screams, moans, and whatever to animal sounds. I don't know how giant the sound archive is, but it seems to be free in this case, unlike their music, which costs around 90 dollars・。

http://www.abyssalchronicles.com/audio.php
This is the king of "Tales of"   music downloads, especially works as a better alternative to Galbadia Hotel. This site features various music downloads from all the Tales games in existence, and a little more. I highly recommend you should check the site out, for RPG Making or not.

http://voiceactingalliance.com
Voice Acting Alliance, or the VA Alliance, is a well-known forum devoted to Voice Acting. The forum is mainly for game authors interested to have voice acting in their game, at least, that's the connection people make with RPG Maker on that perspective. Too scared? The great legacyblade has joined the forum and is a great user there; why not dive in yourself?

http://www.newgrounds.com/audio
Newgrounds is not only a giant Flash database with humor and hentai. There is also a giant music database, mostly songs to help people with Flash Animations, but those very songs can still be used in RPG Maker. ParagonX9, a popular artist in techno, flash, and Stepmania, is a contributor in Newgrounds Music exclusively, for example. Take a search, the Music Database has a wide variety of genres.

http://bluelaguna.net/pages/selectmp3.php
You need to download Video Game OSTs, but you're disgruntled that Galbadia Hotel or FFShrine forums isn't being friendly and happy to you? Well, that's why Blue Laguna is here, a site with Video Game OSTs, particularly RPGs. Just credit the composers and maybe this site, and you'll be all cool.

http://incompetech.com/m/c/royalty-free/index.html (Thanks Seox!)
A public domain music site. Using these music won't violate any copyrights, as they are royalty free. Perhaps you can find some tracks of interest, ?varying from any genre.

http://8bc.org (Thanks game_guy!) ( Is down :( )
8-Bit Collective is a great site for finding 8 bit style music. However, each song you find has different licenses then the other but most I've looked at uses Creative Commons.

http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/55-great-websites-to-download-free-sound-effects/ (Thanks winkio!)
Where finding the right sound effect's difficult, the guys at HongKiat's scoured the net already to find some universal sound effects to use. These aren't just your slapstick Wilhelm Screams or anything; these can be used in any professional project. And there's 55 websites. It's like more fun than one. :V:

http://www.hamienet.com/midi2mp3
You can convert your MIDI files to WAV and MP3 here. While the conversion/synthesize options are rather simple, the site offers several soundfonts for rendering which makes it great as you get a high variety of different sounding files if you want.

http://www.presence-of-music.com/home.html
This site has AMAZING pieces of free, royalty-free music made especially for games. There are two "genres": RPG-Fantasy and Suspense/Horror. Just click Download, choose your genre and start listening to awesome music. This Japanese site is exceptional because it's, in fact, mostly in English, so browsing the site is easy. All the songs are downloadable in mp3 format and some also in ogg format.

http://www.hmix.net/
The home page for royalty-free music has two distinctive banners that say "Pick up!!". Clicking the upper one directs you to a bunch of (obviously) horror-themed music (IMO the music there isn't anything special), while clicking the lower one directs you to a bunch of battle themes emanating of pure epicness. They're simply astonishing! Clicking the button next to "HOME" directs you to different categories for different types of music and sound effects. Do be wary though as this site is entirely in Japanese. The logos of the categories are in English (note that battle has been misspelled as buttle), so navigating there shouldn't be a problem.

Script Resources

http://sg.gamecrab.com/ (Is down :( )
Sandgolem, a somewhat famous neglected scripter. Sure, he hasn't reached the status of our great Blizzard or the "mighty" SephirothSpawn, but Sandgolem seems to hold a special place in some people's hearts. His blog contains a lot of interesting entries that will help you in the RPG Making world. It's very clean-cut, sleek, and definitely easy to read.

Mega Resource Sites

http://hbgames.org
RMXP.org is one of the most popular RPG Making sites to date, spanning more than 29,000 members. Surely with a quantity that high the site would have an expansive database full of resources, scripts, and other things that just make you go ga-ga. Fortunately, this is true. In fact, RMXP.org also has a Resource Link Thread, a massive database of Templates, and much more. Registration is not required.
Update: RMXP.org renamed itself to HBGames.org to accept other game creators and general game making.

http://www.rpg-maker.fr/
RPG-MAKER.FR is a French RPG Maker site. If you can navigate here, you'll see that they're involved with 2000, XP, and VX. To view their resources, click on "Ressources" on the right navigation bar and use the best of your ability to navigate. Hopefully you took French in school. :P

http://www.rmxp.de/
RMXP.de is actually not a rip-off of .org, or any site of that matter, it's an RPG Maker community in German. There's a giant resource database of all the RPG Makers, but a lot of the resources are a hit-and-miss. Still, that doesn't mean you should refrain from this site; no, not at all, some of the graphics they have here are actually beautiful. Just know which ones are and aren't. The resources are made and submitted by users.

http://yf-project.net/rpg/stuff.shtml
Somehow, the Japanese help us with our resources to an immense amount. RPG MAKING EWP may not have much at first, but that's the page you clicked the link towards. Remember to check out the sidebar and see what interesting items appear there. The resources are meant for RPG Maker 2000 and 2003, but they can be used in XP, obviously.

http://charas-project.net/resources.php?lang=en
Charas-Project is a site mainly devoted to a php-powered character creator for RPG Maker 2000 and 2003. However, there is a Resource Database, again, submitted by users, that contain nougats of battlers, music, character sets and whatnot for various RPG Makers. Being that its user submitted, it may simply be a hit-and-miss, but try it out anyway.

http://www.gamebaker.com/rmxp/ (Is down :( )
Gamebaker is just an interesting site. Some of the resources you find here are original ideas that are ingenious. Gamebaker also contains a lot of the best icons from Enterbrain, for example, a 40 icon pack of a template. There are some great antiquities in there, and the scripting instructions are user-friendly. If you know Sandgolem, chances are you know this site too.

http://gamecraft.ucoz.org/ (Thanks Jek!)
Gamecraft is a resource site run by our very own Jek. There's a plethora of resources to check out here. What's best is that it's not limited to RPG Maker. Other game makers get their attention here as well, making this a great all-around site to go to. Click on the Resource Gallery to view image-related media for various game engines. For sounds, scripts, resource packages, and other miscellaneous items, check out the Downloads section and look at RPG Maker or RMXP Scripts.

Don't forget to credit the creator of the resource! Try and locate the author, and if you can't, credit the website you obtained it from. Always do your homework when it comes to collecting resources, and give credit where credit is due.

Chat / Bejing Olympics 2008
August 11, 2008, 07:12:38 pm
Cue in the obligatory event thread.

How many of you seen the Beijing Olympics? I'm appreciative of it, it's a great break from all the political high-ties, and it's an easy way to show a country who's boss over another. If you're in the US, you can watch it on NBC, whichever local channel that will be for you.

The most surprising shock in the Olympics for me was actually the 4 men relay race in swimming, not just because of Michael Phelps, but of the climactic end where Bernard lost by .08 of a second to US. Phelps did look amusing in the cheer, and he has every right to be happy. Hope he makes the record of medals obtained. :)

Discuss ho! >:O

I want to kick this Guest out of the chat, but I realize I don't have any Chat Mod powers, nor does any other Moderator. What I'm thinking is that we either:

  • Make the Chaos-Project Chat available only for Members

  • Give moderators Chat Mod powers.

(By the way, mumerus was DeathLock and Lizard was me)

EDIT: Sea came back and banned him. Still, in case of future problems...:)
