Hey everyone. After making a CMS, I've gotten a lot better at working with the RGSS window class. In my project I've been using Ccoa's UMS, which is great, but there are a lot of aspects that it are clunky (and there are a few things I'd like to see differently in terms of features anyways). So before I get started, I wanted to know if anyone had some advice for me or knew about some pitfalls I should try and avoid. I may release this script to the public, if I decide it's good enough, so feel free to request a feature too (not saying it'll make it in, but advice is good)

Hello everyone. Before I start, I want to mention that I am in no way affiliated with XDM and will not get anything for posting this, or for you guys checking it out. I just think it's something awesome, and want to share it with everyone.

XDM is basically a guide that gives a new way to look at table-top RPGs, and games in general. (I'm incorporating a lot of the ideas into Darkness Rebirth, causing me to need to redesign most of the gameplay system :P). Rather than focusing on rules and total accuracy, Gaming should be about the fun of the experience, the storytelling, and doing something awesome. I agree with the notion that table top gaming has become far to complicated and convoluted in its rules. Have you ever tried teaching someone who hadn't ever played a D&D like game how to play D&D 3.5 or 4.0? It's a nightmare. I was able to pick it up so quickly because I'd played knights of the old republic a few thousand times, but even then it took a week or so for me to really start to get a grasp of the rules. XDM comes with its own very simple D20 system, but the majority of the book is just theory on how to make games good. (most of it applies more to games like D&D than it does to the included games system.)

IF YOU ARE TRYING TO GET YOUR NON-GAMING FRIENDS/GIRLFRIEND INTO GAMING, YOU REALLY WANT THIS BOOK.

I bought the book myself, and loved it. It doesn't feel like you're slogging through another core rule book, GM guide, or gaming module. It's funny and well written. Heck, even my friends not interesting in gaming borrowed it because they thought it was fun to read.

Hey everyone. I've been trying to figure out how to get around doing this for quite awhile now, and frankly I just can't come up with anything else. Does anyone know how to make an animation loop when displaying over a player or event? (play over and over until I make it stop) it's important for a lot of my cutscenes, but I just can't figure out a way to do it. Any advice? (I'm using blizzABS, if that will help. And no, status effects won't work since this is mainly for cutscenes where the player is replaced by an event due to some restrictions bABS gives on changing player graphics. And the events aren't enemies either)

Recruitment / Darkness Rebirth needs artists

Hello everyone! I've been working for awhile on my project Darkness Rebirth. I've picked up quite a few skills by doing almost everything on my own, but one skill still alludes me: drawing. Due to this, I need to ask for some assistance in that area:

What I need:

1-3 people who can draw moderately well

What you would be doing:

I would need the following for each of the game's main characters (there aren't that many I consider main characters)


  • full body pose

        think an RMXP battler. For the CMS I have, I need a full body shot of each main character
  • facesets

        each character has about 7-12 facial expressions that would need to be drawn. I currently use facemaker faces as placeholder images.

New Projects / Darkness Rebirth

I still remember the day all the madness started. I saved the world from living hell...and doomed us all to something much worse






To gain power, one must always pay a price. And in a world where power is gained through Miracles, the price is steep. A life must be sacrificed to generate Vita, the corrupted lifeforce used to make Miracles. Those who receive the Vita through sacrifice are called deities. They are men worshiped as gods simply because they sacrifice innocent lives for power.

It is in this world that Araden, the prophesied hero, fulfilled his destiny to defeat an ancient evil. However, he realized there was more he had to do. Religious wars, pain, murder, and injustice still plagued the world. Simply saving the world was not enough. He had to change its very nature.

He had to burn the world and raise paradise from its ashes.








Nethera: ShowHide

After watching his brother sacrificed, Nethera vows to destroy all deities. He views them as the source of all the evil in the world. Becoming cold and cruel, Nethera spent the next ten years of his life pursuing this goal at all costs. The fervor at which he pursues him ambition gained him a high rank in the Remission (an organization dedicated to stopping the chaos and wars caused by deities).

To others, Nethera seems to be a sadistic sociopath.



Esnuil: ShowHide

Esnuil left his home in his mid twenties, and joined the Remission (an organization dedicated to stopping the chaos and wars caused by deities). Due to his outstanding organizational skills and his prowess in battle, he was quickly granted a leadership position. Esnuil claims to be descended from the hero of light that saved the world long ago, but very few believe him.

However, he refuses to discuss where his vast amounts of Vita come from.



Anithiel: ShowHide

Anithiel was raised to fight. Her parents both belonged to the Remission, and devoted her childhood to training. Once she was of age, she quickly climbed the ranks. Using her unrivaled skills with the bow, and whatever Vita the deity she followed would grant her, Anithiel gained respect as a great warrior and leader. However, despite the ease with which she kills, she still places enormous value on human life.

But, what will happen if the Remission decides her deity is evil?

Script Troubleshooting / Tiling HP Image[resolved]

Hello everyone. I'm working on making a CMS for my game, and I've run up against a wall. I'm using blizzABS and it's ZHUD addon, and I would like my menu system to have the same tiled images to represent health that the ZHUD does. However, after looking through the code, I was unable to figure out how to do this. Does anyone know how I can duplicate the ZHUD's HP tiling in my CMS?

Any help would be appreciated. And thanks for reading :)

Script Troubleshooting / Ring Menu help

Hey everyone. I know it's very idiotic of me, but I just can't figure out how to make a ring menu system. I've looked at all the ones out there that utilize ring menus, but they don't fulfill my needs. I know that Reno-s--Joker's Ring Menu comes with a class defining how a ring menu works. But no matter how much I tinker around, I can't quite figure it out. Would anyone be able to help me along my way by telling me how to create a base for a ring menu system? I just want a ring around the actor that I can configure to point to the correct scenes (I'm going to design a CMS around the ring menu). I don't want to make a status window, or any of that, just a base for a ring menu system.

The things I'm unsure of:


  • How to get the ring to display
        Everything I try fails. I either get syntax errors, or the game doesn't do anything.



  • How to "close" the ring menu.
        It seems that every ring menu has the "opening" animation by default (where the icons swirl out from the main actor). I'd like to be able
        to do this in reverse too.



  • How to do something when the user presses the action button over a certain icon (eg. call the "item" scene when they select the item icon)



I know that these are some really dumb questions. But no matter how much I tinker around with the systems, I just can't figure out ring menus. (let alone blizz's more complex ring menus). I'd appreciate any help you guys could give.

Introduction

Hey everyone. I'm looking for a blizzABS modification which will utilize a ring menu in the skill selection. A game with a similar system is Chaos-Project.com's own Legend of Lexima 4. If you haven't played this, when you select the "skill" option, it brings up a ring menu with the different skill categories available to that particular actor.

Information about how I would like it to work

What I would like it to do

When the skill button is pressed and held, I want a ring menu to show up. This ring menu should contain all the categories an actor has a skill in, as well as any skills that are NOT in a category (in my game, this would contain the categories of Indomancy, Calomancy, and Miracles, as well as the skill called "Burn"). If the user selects a category, then the first ring menu should close, and a ring menu containing all the actor's skills in that category should open. If they select a skill, it should cast that skill.

How I would like it to work

Only categories the user has skills in should be displayed in the first ring menu. However, in a category, I'd like the ability to display certain skills that the actor doesn't know yet, and can't cast. I'd like these to be grayed out and unelectable. These should be defined by a single $game_system array, since I want to define a few skills that the entire party knows about, but only those who have learned them can cast. (everyone knows about a certain Indomantic skill, but only one party member can cast it. However, everyone has the potential to learn it, so I'd like them all to have a grayed out version of the skill in their Indomancy category)

So many lives, so many hearts...so many dreams. They live, fight then die, forgotten in the swiftly falling sands of time. The world is nothing but a myriad of souls, each faintly illuminating the dim world. However, there are a few souls so powerful, that their existence echoes through the fabric of time forever. They live forever, for the shadows of death are no match for them. They are reborn, coming once again to shape the fate of the world.


Myriad souls takes place in a rather dark fantasy world. A world of oppression, hatred, and demons. The story revolves greatly around Aveyar, an angel reborn in the body of a demon. The soul of a once dead god's angel has been reborn in a Faeleen, a persecuted race many believe to be demons. However, you can do whatever it is you wish (within reason). If you want to be a random bard that goes around searching for rare flowers, never fighting a single monster, go for it. This game should go on and on, there will not be an end.

You can do pretty much whatever you want in the story, but if it's something really big (like tearing a hole in the dimensional fabric and sucking most of the main characters into hell) you have to clear it with me first. If you want it to remain a secret, do so via PM. For battles between characters, we have a battle thread to resolve such things. If your character dies, you can just make a new one.

However, you may be any creature you want. Whether you want something as common as an elf, or a new creature you've created, you can be whatever you want to be. As long as you keep the race's power within reason (I'll judge this), make anything you want.

There are six major kingdoms, Belior, Malciun, Gilgris, Relfar, Terip, and Norampax (the Faeleen homeland). You can make other kingdoms if you wish, and you can even work on raising an army to take over an existing one (though this will require a lot of work). There will be military tactics involved. If a battle involving armies ever occurs, I will create a separate thread for military battles. All military actions must be posted there and I will judge (as well as play the Non-Player Armies).


Story Summary: (recap of important events that have happened this far)

Aveyar, a Faeleen mercenary, is hired to kill the shapeshifter Klara. However, he decides to spare her, and end his career as a mercenary. Rather, he is going to change the world. He's tired of bowing to humans, he will make his own nation. And he seeks the aid of Klara for this purpose. However, Leggex (a giant worm) and Cora (a powerful demigod) destroy the village nearby. In the chaos, Aveyar looses track of Klara (who he'd been trying to track down). Klara, Aveyar, and Kirema (a user of wind magic) end up in a cave. The soldiers pursue them, thinking they are the ones responsible. After fighting their way out of the cave, Aveyar goes berserk, almost as if another person were influencing his mind. When he comes to his senses, he is horrified at how he acted like a beast, and runs away. During this time, Klara and a gunsman named Yak kill Cora. After Aveyar recovers, he sets off in search of Klara. Klara is currently seeking a way to gain powerful necromantic powers, and decides to use Aveyar. Disguising herself as a fellow mercenary, Klara tags along, trying to find out Aveyar's true identity. However, something unexpected happens, as Aveyar is taken over by his other side. We don't know for sure who this other side is, but he shares Aveyar's name, and seems filled with magic. Whenever Aveyar is taken over, his eyes go silver. He nearly strangles Klara before the other side fades back into Aveyar's mind.

While traveling, Aveyar, Klara, and Deio stop in a local tavern for the night. Aveyar discovers Klara is the shapeshifter, but she manages to evade him. Taking the form of a Faeleen girl to disguise herself, she inadvertently caused Aveyar to fall in love with her. However, this made using him easier, so she worked at preserving these feelings. In the tavern, Aveyar and the girl were confronted by a slave owner named Koji. He demanded Aveyar give him the girl, and she be returned to her owner. Aveyar drew his sword, ready to fight to the death. However, a mysterious force warped everyone in the room to different locations. Aveyar found Klara once again, and they set off to a nearby cave. Aveyar promised to help her obtain an artifact in return for her help. In the cave, they ran into two girls, Sakura and Dikura. They were nature spirits, and Aveyar's alter ego fell in love with Sakura.

While in the cave, a shape shifting beast (not Klara) disguised itself as the Faeleen girl Aveyar had been in love with in order to get close enough to eat him. Dikura saw through this plan, and killed the beast. Aveyar went berserk and tapped into all the power of his other self at once. This tore a temperary hole in the dimensional fabric, and pulled Sakura, Dikura, Klara, Koji (who had been warped into the cave by that mysterious force), Aveyar, and Varyn into Melbyreth. Varyn is a man who can manipulate fire, and hears it's voice (it claims to be the mouthpiece of Namu, the god of justice).

Once in Melbyreth, Gemini (the original name of Aveyar's alter ego) feels the presence of his god once again.



If your character dies, you CAN create a new one. Also, there is no limit to the characters you can have, just keep it within reason. You must wait for your character to be approved before you can RP with them.

Hello everyone. After having given up on anime for a few years, my friend managed to get me to watch an episode of Code Geass. I was instantly addicted, and watched the entire show starting at episode one. But there's nothing left. I've tried a few other animes like .hack and chrono chross, but they just aren't any good. All I can find reminds me why I gave up on anime in the first place. Anyone know any good anime like Code Geass that is english dubbed? If so, any link to a site that has the episodes?

I am only taking a total of FIVE requests. AND it will be 5$ a sprite. Now that may sound like a lot, but think of how easy it is to make 5$. Would you rather hunt around for weeks trying to find someone to fill your request, or spend months honing your skills? Time is more valuable than money, so why waste it? 5$ is very reasonable.

Hello everyone. My website, spencerconrad.com, is finally finished. On it, I have a blog, free short stories, and a free ongoing fantasy serial called called Myriad Souls. Myriad Souls is an ongoing serial, taking place in a world darker than what you're used to in fantasy. We follow the story of Aveyar: a man condemned to the edge of society because his race is believed to be the spawn of demons. This is a tale of an angel, reborn in the body of a demon.

Please don't judge my writing skills based on this post. A post in a forum is different than a story, so I don't put effort into making it sound good. My stories are up for free not because I cannot publish them, but because I want to provide a good read for everyone. I'd also like to increase my reader base, since I love when people read my work. After not sleeping, I sorta went insane. I slept last night, but am not completely sane at the moment. I wrote a short story...with whinnie the pooh as the main character. It isn't at all what you expect, he's captain of a destroyer, leading an assault on the capitol city of an enemy force. It's very odd...

RPG Maker Scripts / Map as title screen[resolved]

Hello. I know there are a few ways to make a map as a titlescreen, but none that I have found are compatible with ton's of addons "fullscreen?" addon. Anyone know where I could find one, or how I could mod them to display "switch to fullscreen?" at the beginning?

LIDS (Legacy's Inn/Healer Dream System)
Version: 1.1
Type: Restorative Establishment/Aesthetics Enhancements



Introduction

Well after checking out Calintz awesome system, the CAIIES, I noticed that it would be much more efficient if there were a few script calls. Then, as I messing around with the system, I got carried away, and created my own system.

It uses the same basic concept of "Inn Realism". Sleeping at an Inn shouldn't cure critical condition. But I took it a step further, and said it shouldn't heal things like being turned into a frog, poison, being paralyzed, etc. And, armed with a few simple script calls, I made the LIDS. I also added a "dreaming" system. (They can be anything from simple messages like "you dream of fish...", to flow blown cutscenes, to minigames. It's that customizable!)

This is to show just how much a few edits of Calnitz awesome system can do! (I highly encourage you to get his system, and make something unique out of it)


Features


  • Separate Inn and Healer Facilities
  • Inn can heal all characters, except those with the a state that requires a healer (easy to set up).
  • "Healers" can remove certain status ailments that you define, as well as heal those in critical condition (dead/knockout).
  • Dream system (at night, you will have a dream)
  • Separate dreams for both the healer, AND the Inn.
  • "Special" Dreams. This can be used for those cliché cutscenes that take place at the Inn, as well as "prophetic" dreams. (you can even define them separately for both the Inn and the Healer)
  • Both healer and Inn will transport you to a map, based on whatever Inn you're in, for graphical niceties. (You can show your main character sleeping at the Inn)
  • Uses common events in conjunction with variables, so it's easily customizable AND efficient. (you can have the price, message, map transferred to during sleep, etc change based on the "Inn" or "Healer" variable)

If any member of your party has states requiring a healer (which you define at each Inn, in a very simple manner), the Inn Keeper will notify the player that they need a healer.

The healer will also tell you whether or not you need their services (and will only allow you to stay at the healer's place if you DO need their services).

Author's Notes
Don't forget to set which states require healing at the Healer, and don't forget to customize the common events for your own game (particular the dream ones). You wouldn't want a random cutscene from my game as a dream, now would you?

Yes...I made a map with cosmetic fog just for this demo. (I made that Inn map for the demo) I really should spend more time on my own project than making my demos look pretty. You can use that map, as well as it's fog, in your own game. Just make sure to credit me! Also, make sure to check out Calnitz system, it's simpler than this, and may suit your needs better. (his is awesome)

Chat / Weirdest valentine EVER

Today, I scraped my original valentine idea when I was hit with a sudden burst of insparation. My original idea was a generic valentines card with chocolates (she lives in Oregon, so that would take some time to get there), but Taylor (the girl I'm giving a valentine too) has said many times she likes original and creative valentines. So today, I started thinking. And suddenly the image of Link holding up a heart with a dialog box saying "You receive "my heart", happy valentines!" popped into my head. So being the nerd I am, I set about making a short Zelda game in RMXP. Now that I finished the first puzzle (a simplified and scripted version of the rock hopping puzzle from quintessence's prolouge), I am working on the Link sprite, and adding an intro, some dialog, ect. Then I'll do a generic switch puzzle, which causes the final treasure to appear, which is "my heart", and the happy valentine message.

I'm a nerd, aren't I? XD

btw, before you tell me giving her something nerdy is a horrible idea, she used to play zelda games a lot, and she finds my nerdiness endearing

Hello everyone. I decided to do something a little out of the ordinary for resource threads. Rather than release a few poses, and a few charsets, I'm going to release ALL my charsets, and all the poses needed for most games for each one. This will take a bit of time to complete, but once I have the thread completed, you will be able to find all the graphics you'll need for any game you want to make, whether it be with RPG Maker XP, RPG Maker VX, Stencyl, Game Maker, or any other game making engine. All resources and graphics in this thread are free to use in any commercial or noncommercial project, whatever game creation engine you prefer. Just be sure to credit Legacyblade.

Hey everyone. I finally got the prologue to a state I think is good, but I wanted to see what you all think.

It's saved as an RTF, so even if you don't have Word, you can view it. Tell me what you think, criticism is desperately sought after. I will give you cookies if you tell me things you think don't work too well, or just seem "weird, dumb, hokey" or any other negative term. Praise is accepted as well, but I'd much rather have brutal criticism.

In particular, does it seem confusing? I want it to get the reader interested, but not be so unclear that you're left going "...what the heck?" Like I did with the old Quintessence Prologue, XD

Also, does it make you want to read the rest of the story?

I've been trying to figure out how to do this, but I can't without downloading a very laggy, highly incompatible script I found. I know it can't be that hard, so I decided to check with the script troubleshooting crew.

I want to spawn an event on the map. The only things I really need to set are the event's graphics, and its name. If I wasn't using the blizzABS, I could easily simulate this via eventing, with maybe a script call or two, but renaming events (via script call) that have been erased due to them dieing causes a lot of bugs.

Hey, I'm making a script based on an event system by Reives. It's for arcade style minigames. Anyways, I decided that the way for configuration that would work best is the blizzABS method of naming events. I searched through the bABS code, and can't figure out how to do what I want to. I'm making a Map_Enemy class (just like bABS). The only difference will be that the event has health. Anyways, you make one of these map enemies by naming the event "\e[Health] " where Health is the number of hits it takes to kill them. Any suggestions on how to do this?

Script Troubleshooting / In-game tutorial help

Hey everyone. For the game I'm making, I need to know how to do a few things with script calls.

1. show a message box
2. access the Blizz ABS sprite handling (aka, I need it to do the attack sprite, or the skill sprite when the player presses a button)

If anyone could help, that'd be great ^_^

Hello everyone. I have run into a problem. I created a tileset addon for Darkness Rebirth, but because of what I'm using it for, it'd be MUCH easier if it were a charset. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to calculate the size the charset image would have to be. If anyone could put the following image into charset format, I'd be very happy.

RPG Maker Scripts / blizzABS script questoins

Well, I'm working on making an addon for blizzABS. Its really small, but it would allow a temporary patch to give some of XAS' features to blizzABS. I want that because I use blizzABS in my game, and want it to look nice even before blizzard makes his updates to blizzABS.

Anyways, I'm wondering which methods I would need to change to do the following:

Make it so skills no longer have sprite handling:

You CAN remove actor animations, but that makes the game boring. To get the evented skill movement to work, I can't have the game doing anything to the sprite (changing the actor graphic in the event has issues with the skill sprite handling)

Animation speed

Yes, I know this will be configurable in later versions of the script, but for the moment I want to make it have the same speed as XAS.

Anyways, that's all I wanted to know. Thanks for reading (and yes, I looked)

Gah, I hate asking for resources.

I'm not quite sure how I'm supposed to put together animations, so if anyone has one (or can make one) I would LOVE an animation template. (you know, alternating colored boxes, each one representing a frame in the animation.) I've looked but I can't find one. I feel like such a n00b, XD
