A bump from beyond the grave. I'm continuing to make progress on the DSC project, but it's slowed down substantially due to family coming down here for an extended stay from July through September.

Pruned a few of my old no longer relevant comments out of the thread to save space.

New demos of Lightning Assault and Call to Arms have been posted. They are both starting to near completion and will probably have final versions posted sometime before September.

I'm currently working on new versions of a few songs in the DSC soundtrack that haven't been posted yet: Well of Eternity, Cestos' Theme, and Prologue - Kingsmarch.

Quoteyes but i have different types of attacks like punch, kick, bite, etc.
they do different amount of damage

QuoteThen make a skill for each attack. May not be exactly what you're thinking, but it works like a charm. Happy

That's exactly how I'd do it, too. This is the normal procedure for how skills are handled in RMXP. For each separate special attack, spell or ability that you want your characters to have, you will need to make a separate skill.

If this still isn't what you want, please try to be as specific as possible by providing an example of the battle options that you want available to your characters (ie: "I want them to only be able to choose skills, run, or items like the pokemon games," or "I want them to have a basic attack, but also a different command for special skills that use SP."

Also... lol @ randomly being rated down.

That is precisely how the default battle system works. To do what you're asking requires no changes to the system at all.

The default "Attack" action is a general physical attack that is modified by the character's Strength and Attack power, and the enemy's physical defense.

"Skills" can have physical and/or elemental properties (such as "Magic," "Fire," or "vs. Undead") These properties are determined on a skill to skill basis. In addition to the elemental tag, skills can be modified by most any attributes (Strength, Dexterity, Agility or Intelligence) or any combination of them that you want. They can also use an SP cost determined by you.

All of this information is explained further in RMXP's included help file. I suggest reading the "Battle Formulas" section.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your request, that feature is already implemented into the default battle system.

Special attacks are called "Skills," and are accessed via the "Skills" menu.

Are you referring to limiting characters to choosing between a specific number of skills, and locking out all other actions so only those skills and "Run Away" appear as battle options?

Oh my god, the "network attack" on Localhost thing was priceless. It's like giving a 6 year old "tough guy" a gun, and watching him point it at himself and pull the trigger. And the gun is loaded with stupid.

QuoteHonestly, I find Brawl to be vastly inferior to Melee and 64.

I liked the mechanics of Melee better (...excepting the air dash, I was not a fan of that particular exploit,) but feel like they brought in quite a few decent additions to the previous stage/character line-up. I pretty much agree with what Winkio said regarding the game mechanic changes.

Brawl: Snake and Marth are probably my two best characters, but I also play a mean Samus.

Melee: Marth and Samus.

64: Samus and Pikachu (the original Pikachu was broken as hell. Made a great teammate with Ness in competitive 2v2s.)

Edit: HOLY CRAP TYPO. I said I liked the mechanics of Brawl better. *shudder...*

I swear to god, after looking at the wallpaper for about a minute, I saw it blink.

It was the creepiest thing I have ever experienced in my life.

I've never been very good at goodbyes... so let me just say:

So long, and thanks for all the fish.

Take care, Zeriab.

lol... I knew it was Florida before I even scrolled down and read it. XD

I haven't seen any that were that big in awhile, but yeah... that's about par for the course.

You pretty much summed it up, though I seriously doubt it will be "fixed" in a future update, Whiterose.

The incredibly frustrating thing to me is...

It's a feature on the box that people took under consideration when purchasing it. Sony is not simply removing the option to use Other OS from future systems, they are retroactively taking the feature off the box of every unit they've ever sold and effectively holding other features on the box at ransom unless the owner complies. That's an incredibly dishonest business practice.

It's like selling someone a car, and then 12 months down the road, telling them the cigarette lighter feature is being discontinued and they have to choose between removing the cigarette lighter, or not using the radio, CD player, or any of the CDs they've purchased to play in the CD player anymore. The car still fulfills its primary purpose, but it's not what you paid for.

User: Indeed. Very observant of you, Cleverbot.

Cleverbot: Thank you, I will disregard your sarcasm there...

To her credit, that is pretty clever...

lol @ getting like 4 people addicted to that site. XD

Much appreciated. No idea why people are randomly de-leveling me all of a sudden. lol

I've been stuck on that piece for the last few days (mostly the melody, like you pointed out,) so I'll definitely take your feedback into consideration!

QuoteI have just found with my experience that criticism is more useful than pure praise

Quoted for truth. I'd much rather have someone tell me something they didn't like about my work than "everything was perfect, there's nothing you can do to improve."

On that note, Namkor offers some pretty solid advice. I'm not much of an artist myself, but it seems like helpful criticism, so maybe it's a good starting point as you look over the feedback and decide how to modify some of your work.

It's an interesting clothing style, kind of similar to Purple. Simple, but striking is usually the way to go.

The angels are a bit sharp, but that's part of the style and it gives it a "crisp" feel, so I like it.

Honest criticism... the colors feel a bit flat. The shading itself is fine, it's more like the selective use of color. The simple dark green and brown leather works for Amaranth, but I felt the colored highlights used in Purple worked a bit better.

A lot of views over the last week and not a single comment on the new addition... lol

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nf/20100329/bs_nf/72456

With the release of FFXIII and a lot of other stuff going on, I hadn't gotten around to updating my PS3 to the latest version until today.

It's a god-damned good thing I read the agreement first.

With the 3.21 version update, players are forced to make a choice:
  • Update to the new version and permanantly lose the ability to install or boot to another OS on the system, losing access to any data you have installed on that partition and the space on the partition itself (unless you do a complete reformat and lose everything.)

  • Don't update and lose access to the Playstation Network, games that require access to the Playstation Network, your friends list, synchronized trophies, the ability to watch content with certain DRM restrictions, and all future features and updates.

The official reason Sony is making this change is due to a claim that installing another OS on the PS3 facilitates piracy. Considering the fact that there are physical limitations in place that prevent most of the system's resources (most of the cell processor, access to GPU and all but ~128mb of RAM) from being accessed outside of the PS3 OS, this statement is complete bullshit. Having a third party OS installed on your PS3 no more facilitates piracy than does having a second computer and using it to move files onto your PS3 with a flash drive or USB cable.

I doubt anyone else on this board was affected by the update, but given the huge precedent this sets, I figured I'd alert people.
