RMXP Script Database / Re: [XP] Blizz-ABS

Everything's good now. Almost had a meltdown afterward, when I got into the game and the controls wouldn't work, but then discovered I had screwed up mapping the controls in the config app so that both the up and down arrow keys went down. xD I'm sure I'll be back to beg for assistance before long, but until then, thanks guys.

Thanks Blizzard. I can't believe I got BABS and Tons of Addons flipped around. :^_^': I'll test that out and then let you know what's up.

Thank you too, KK20!

Oh, and before I forget, Multiple Message Windows is just an empty script. I forgot to delete the space where it was after I removed it to use Moonpearl's message window script.

Got any scripts below Blizz ABS? The line is pointing to an instance of Map_Actor#refresh which can take in an optional parameter. More than likely, you have some piece of code in another script below that is overriding this change and making the refresh method not accept any parameters.

Yeah, a few. They're all scripts that say to put them below BABS, though... what should I do?

Hey guys... long story short, I have a new project with a lot of scripts installed. A metric sh*t-tonne, in fact, as I installed a couple of Moonpearl's scripts (balloon messages and face display), which caused me to have to install, like, 30 some scripts to friggin' use them.

Blizz ABS is in there, obviously, and a couple of scripts that should be causing no problems with Blizz are installed as well. Specifically, game_guy's End Credits script, Clive's Hero Database (which I've had working with Blizz ABS before... just lost the project file in a hard drive crash), and Blizz ABS Battlecry by Little Drago.

I had Heretic's Blinking Low Stat Numbers installed, but that did cause some problems with Blizz ABS, so that's been removed.

Now, its been awhile since I've touched RMXP , and even longer since I've used Blizz ABS (going on 2 years due to the previous loss of this project due to hard drive failure.)

Whenever I attempt to test the game, I can get as far as the title screen. When I hit New Game, I get the following error message:

Does this look like I've made a mistake in the Config App? Enabling something that shouldn't be enabled? (I have no graphics to speak of to use with BABS yet.)

Or does this look like something that would be caused by one of the many other scripts that are installed? I'm hoping its not that, but it's probably that. :P

MindOnFire's SPRITE BUILDER
========================

This is nowhere near done but its been months since I touched it. I haven't contributed much of anything to the RPG Maker community over the years as much as I absolutely adore it, so I'd like to contribute at least one thing if I never manage to finish anything else.

This started out as something I could use to conveniently create NPCs for a game I want to make, and started expanding into more than that. I'm not really a spriter; I could get away with some things back in the days of RM2k3, but I really don't have any artistic talent when it comes to pixel art, and RMXP's art style.

The reason I was making this in the first place is because I want to make a game with a large selection of fantasy and anthropomorphic characters. There's really not a lot of anthro sprites out there, and you have to do quite a bit of digging to find the good ones.

What this is, is essentially my version of Charas-Project.net in RMXP form. There's a hell of a lot of room for improvement, and addition, but it couldn't be simpler to use. Open the file in photoshop, select a head, a body, and some clothes, and presto! You've got a base for a sprite that you can begin editing and doing touch ups to!

This is just meant to be a starting point. Only two or three of the layers in this thing are my creation. Everything else was created by various talented spriters from the RPG Maker community. So for the love of god, don't credit me for the sprites unless they're using one of my resources (basically tribal markings designed for the wolf character I was making). There's some instructions in the PSD file itself for further editing.

Enjoy.

Basic question that I'm sure has been asked before, but is there a simple way to produce a side-scrolling game using RPG Maker XP in conjunction with Blizz ABS? I'm just curious if it's conceptually possible to create something like a side-scrolling action platformer using RPG elements and this engine.

I don't really have free time anymore; I work 6 days a week and write a lot of music and stuff in my fleeting off time. I'm just milling over a simple concept in my head that I'd like to pursue in the future. :) So no rush on the answer.

I would love And Yet It Moves if that's okay with you?  :^_^':

... This is absolutely incredible. Something like this could be used to implement dynamic soundtracks in an RPG Maker game by streaming the stems of a song as separate tracks simultaneously and allowing them to "fade in" by turning up the volume via event command.

Definitely leveled up. Since I'll probably never finish a game of my own, I really hope someone else figures out how to utilize this idea.

Chat / Re: Do not download from Coolrom.
August 06, 2014, 09:30:20 pm
I normally wouldn't post in a dead thread (though I basically have been a dead member for awhile now... college, the loss of my hard drive, and some other stuff got me out of RPG maker for a long time) but I thought people might like to know that Coolroms never got rid of the old download method and are still completely safe to use. You scroll down to a slightly smaller text link that says "Alternative Download Link" and it brings up the popup window where you can download your rom the traditional way. Figured this out very quickly as I refuse to use their installer as well. So, yeah. The site's completely fine.

Wow. I actually tried a strategy really similar to that before posting here, though I was trying to edit the references in Scene_Status rather than Scene_Menu (Don't worry I restored it to default). At least I know I had the right idea. XD Thanks for your help. It works perfectly.

Level up for quick help and for always helping me despite my tendency to disappear lol.

I apologize for necroposting (and just appearing after being gone for a really long time just to necropost <_<) but does anyone here know of a way to get this to appear as the default status screen by going to status in the menu instead of needing an event+script reference to call it? I have it working and I vastly prefer this screen to the default one.

One of these days I'm going to make an rpg where damage is so large it must be expressed in scientific notation.  Deal a cool 3.5 * 10^37 damage with a basic attack.

Ahem. <3

^ Jesus Christ that is amusingly unnecessary. As soon as he got to the line "Take a dump in the face of common sense." I couldn't want anymore. Lol @ the 10,000,000 damage+ shit. I want attacks like that in Chrono Trigger.

I'm one of those kinds who basically tries to make it so that by the time you hit the end level you have about 9,999 HP. I don't actually know how to go beyond that but I don't really see it as necessary either. The only thing I really dislike in RPGs as far as damage numbers go (I don't care if they're high or low to be honest) Is when you have monsters that look like they could breathe on you and it'd corrode your skin, dealing say, 4,500 damage, then you with your stupid little stick or sharpened piece of metal hitting it for like 8536 or whatever and taking infinitely less time to kill it than it would to kill you. Having a horribly disproportioned HP/Attack/Magic system in most games are where those games begin making no sense.

Event System Requests / Re: [RMXP] Addictions (solved)
September 22, 2011, 05:15:00 pm
Oh, hell yes. I was wanting to employ a concept like the addictions in Fallout 3 into the game I'm working on now. It's okay for me to use this concept, right? And that demo will probably go to use because I seem to suck at following directions. :^_^':

Event System Requests / Re: Dark Rooms and torches

I tried to incorporate this on a 2k3 game and eventually gave up on the concept. Unless you want the constant circle that follows you around, it doesn't really work that well unfortunately. I think there are scripts to do this in XP, though. I'm actually trying to basically move the game to XP for the sake of having that and a few other systems in the game itself.

Ah, thank you. :^_^':

And I just tested this, it works fantastically! Thank you very much for all of your help, guys. I massively appreciate it. :)

RMXP Script Database / Re: [XP] Blizz-ABS

I only have a very quick question for anybody who might have experimented with it. Does anyone know if the script for Rataime's Destruction Engine is compatible with Blizz ABS? I downloaded his visual effects past last night and noticed that Zeriab's anti-lag was compatible with his sun-creating-shadows effect so I was just wondering about this one as well. I kinda have the idea in my head to combine this with particle effects for blood to make some pretty unique and badass kill graphics on the enemies for critical hits or something XD

The engine I'm referring to can be found for download here.

OT EDIT: Nice Avi, Zylos. I recognize that character generator :hi:

That's actually exactly how I was picturing doing it, with the exception that I hadn't thought of doing each individual eye. I don't suppose the hue map works very well for changing skin colours either, does it? It'd probably be awkward lol. >_<

In any case, thank you for reassuring me on that. And I do appreciate getting a reply on that because I am aware of the fact that you're retired from RMXP, so I really do appreciate the swift reply.

Since RMXP spriting isn't my forte (I'll probably get better at it in time, I did loads of custom graphics in 2k3) I'mma have to try and edit the base sprites on Backwater Productions' character generator. Which is going to be annoying as they're all anatomically correct. I didn't realize this until I had saved a bunch of sprites of my character, then gotten an attire from elsewhere I wanted to put on him and discovered that my sprite had a massive peen lol. I need to work on my coding skills too but as with everyone that'll come with time.  :)

Okay, thank you very much, I'll have to keep this saved somewhere so that I can remember where the issue lies. I'll give it a run and let you know of my findings. If I can get this to work the only other thing I intend to implement for it right now is a system utilizing one of the effects on a character whenever they take damage; I've not figured out how to do that via event yet but I will in a bit.

It might also be worth noting that I've since implemented Blizz ABS.

EDIT: This will probably sound a bit silly, but what am I supposed to put in place of (Scene_Title)? Is this the map name, event name, or what? I'm still kinda poor at this and the biggest thing I took from that was that using the variable $scene is going to run me into a few walls. I'm also just having my coffee and haven't been up that long, lol.
