Title: Cateia Games
Post by: Blizzard on March 19, 2009, 10:59:35 am
This is a small game development company currently most active in development of casual games for the average player.

http://www.cateia.com/games/

Just recently Cateia Games released two games: Tibor: Tale of a Kind Vampire and The Legend of Crystal Valley
Tibor is simple jump 'n' run 2D platform game with cartoonish graphics made after a child fairy tale while LOCV is a classical point 'n' click adventure in a fantasy world. Both games can be obtained via various game portals (I won't name them all here) for a small price (usually around $15).

I am in no way affiliated with Cateia Games. :V (That is massive sarcasm, I work for this company. xD)

"Boris Mikić" and "Domagoj Cerjan" haven't been added yet. Also, I haven't worked on Tibor or LOCV.
K.A.P.U.T.T. has been cancelled for now since the publishers were bitching that Arcade games aren't that popular right now. <_<; The two of us are currently working on a different game which combines time management game with a few RPG elements (in form of quests). I'd say we did 40% of game of the programming in the last 5 weeks. Since we have both exams for two weeks, starting the week after the next, we won't be able to do much in the next 3 weeks so the demo for the publishers will take a while. :/ After the publishers approve the demo, the game will probably be added as one of the ongoing projects.
In any case Krešo said he's going to add the two of us as well as another collegue to the official team. Thing is just that the website isn't updated that often. xD Also, Krešo is as forgetful and lacking time as I am. I just need to remind him in the next few days.

EDIT: I just talked to Krešo. He said we'll get added to the list when they revamp the website in near future.

Most of em I buy are used, so that's like $20 cheaper and I buy some game at blockbuster which cost like around $5-10 regardless of the new releases.

Sally, that's theft. You know that, do you? ._. Would you steal from me? When I make a commercial game and want to earn some money so I can pay the rent, would you still get the game somewhere for free?! :'(

LOCV and Tibor are both currently being ported onto Mac and iPhone. A Wii version is possible, but an XBox version might take a while as we don't have the license yet. ._.

*Cheers for Blizzy, and gives Sally a cookie.  Then he looks at Mummerbot with a glare, calls him a ripoff artist and a meaniehead and kicks him in the shin.*

This is pretty awesome man.  And I'd agree, I wanna actually do game design for a living and wouldn't want someone stealing my games...I mean, sure, I've been given free games by friends (*cough* Oblivion *cough cough*), and it's no secret that I've gained a few games without paying for them (yet), but these are either vaporware or VERY hard to obtain imports.

Still, if the game is fun, I will pay for it eventually when I have the money.  In the case of a game made by Blizzy or a group he works for/with, I'd pay for it just to keep him fed and clothed. ^_^

Post by: Punn on March 26, 2009, 03:11:24 pm
*Shoots GAX in the shins with a shotgun* A rip off artist...?

Anyways, there's a good reason why some people steal games, cuz they can't afford em, but unlike me, I spend a portion of the money by purchasing used/unwanted games..

So.. yeah... I'm a good influence...

I'd be more than willing to get off my freelance ass if he wants a good job done (and if I'd, of course, be compensated for the aforementioned awesomeness)

so Cateia Games looks like a pretty good game development company.
Hmm... if you work in a company which is working on games to be released then how do you find time being here?
Title: Re: Cateia Games
Post by: Blizzard on May 19, 2009, 05:22:27 am
You wouldn't believe how good I organize my time. I even find the time to actually have a social life and spend time on my other hobbies like music.
And besides due to college and classes I can work only 2 days a week. I'll start skipping a class (where the prof is terrible and if you listen to his bullshit, you start losing knowledge) so I will work 3 days a week starting from next week. I also (usually) don't work during exams like the last and this week. I said "usually" because I did work on tuesday and wednesday last week.

I'm in desperate need to learn how to do that :o

So it's a global phenomenon, huh? I thought it mostly happened only in community...

I'm probably gonna start skipping College Algebra... I hate that guy. Well, not him, per se -- he's pretty smart, charismatic, you know, an okay guy in general. But as for the class, it's blasphemous. There's no logic or challenge whatsoever, just rote memorization of basic methods (I can factor quadratics with a leading coefficient greater than one in my head, take that "magic number method!"), and I hate it. Fortunately, I'm taking AP Cal next year with one of the best teachers ever in MS, so yeah... just biding time, getting credits.

Any way, is this company mainly arcade games, or what? And is it anything like a certain Croatian studio famous for its famous shooter that resembles a famous Did-Not-Finish game?
Title: Re: Cateia Games
Post by: Blizzard on May 28, 2009, 04:54:51 pm
We're currently focused onto casual games because bigger publishers don't like independent developers. ._. But as soon as we get an XBox license (since XBox Live skips the publisher part in game releasing) and as soon as we raise enough money to buy the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS developers hardware (and XBox hardware of course), we're spreading onto the consoles market. Just today kreso received a call that we got the iPhone license which means an iPhone port of Tibor very soon. >:3

And we're not going to make the same mistakes as Croteam. Those guys didn't even make much money with the Serious Sam series while the publishers got most of the money. Last thing I heard about them is that they are outsourcing. :/

Errr.... iPhone is waaaay different from PCs, so good luck with that. Unless you guys have some extensive Obj-C experience, it might take a while :/ But the XBox/Wii part is cool. Hopefully you guys will get something really creative out there for it. It's soooo underused by developers it makes me wanna cry :(

iPhone is actually awesome from a developer's view. Besides the fact that Apple provides really good emulators and development tools, when a program works on one iPhone, it works on all of them. They all have the same hardware unlike PCs. Development is made a lot easier that way. Hence why we are trying to switch to consoles. If it works on one, it works on all of them. :D

what WcW was saying was that Objective-C is a whole new animal as far as programming goes.
The syntax is kinda odd and it's confusing at first, though obviously it turns out some good product.

good luck.

Except the XBOX 360.
Where one might RROD and another might be fine for 5 years.
