What helps you stay motivated when working on your game?
3
So basically I'm finally gonna do it and make a game to completion. Hahaha!

Sorry, I like to start with a joke.

But anyways, I am working on a project again and we'll see how far I take it. I need input at the moment.

No-7: ShowHide

Mode-7: ShowHide

We all know what the default RTP looks like. Great.

My question is: Should I use mode-7 (INSTEAD of custom resolution, which I learned to my dismay is not compatible)?

And if so, what settings have you had good results with? I'm currently at 25 degrees tilt and 15 degrees rotation. More/Less/None? Go!

RPG Maker Scripts / Dynamic Lighting
January 19, 2014, 03:25:46 pm
So I was looking at the script on this page and I think it will be handy for the firefly event that I've made.

Here is my problem, since they are always called by switches or self-switches (Day/Night cycle using CCTS), they don't light up.

Take the switches off and it reads that page first calling the lighiting.

Here is an excerpt from that page:

"I still need to:

(1) Make it so only the light's that are visible update
(2) Make it so you can create the player as a light source
(3) Make it so if you set the light source on a separate page (as in called by a switch or something) will activate the light. (thank you to kevin.ds for pointing this issue out)"

So yeah number 3 is the only issue I can't work with. I read that F0 helped him and I was curious if any of you know whether or not something like this can be done.

Hey people,

I'm not sure if you guys already have something like this but instead of searching around I figured I'd just make my own.

Hi guys.

I'm having some trouble importing a picture into my game in RMXP.

This is the picture.

Spoiler: ShowHide

When I try to import it I select the file, and it goes back to the material database page without asking me about transparent colors or anything.

If anyone has a solution I would be grateful.

General Discussion / Neko RMXP Player for Android
January 13, 2014, 06:08:57 pm
So as you may or may not know there is an app out there which will play RPG Maker XP games on your phone.

I have been testing out serveral games and, while there are still some bugs as the app is still in dev, it works pretty well.

I am curious if any of you have used this, what your experiences with it were, and any information you can offer.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following scripts have been tested and have at least partial functionality. They are, in no particular order:

List of Working Scripts!

- Blizz-ABS 2.85 Package + Blizz-ABS Config 2.84 (Partial: Touch input needed)

- Tons of Add-ons 1-3 (At least partial)

- Nortos Title Skip

- Advanced Weather

- CCTS

- Universal Message System

- Enemy Detection System

- Skill Shop

- Advanced Time and Environment System (ATES)

- Bestiary

- Map BGM in Battle

- Chaos Project Save Layout

- Custom Title Screen

- I have found a script which does lagless touch input and pathfinding, but did not have any luck getting it to work myself.

- RMXP Standard Development Kit (SDK)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What these all have in common, is that they do not rely on win API calls I believe.

I actually have no idea. But maybe someone sees a pattern in these scripts?

Resource Requests / Blue Trees
August 24, 2012, 04:52:14 am
This is a request for any pixel artists out there looking for a simple exercise.

I want blue trees.

The same trees in the standard RTP, but blue. Not just any shade of blue. Sky blue.

Entertainment / Muse
September 19, 2011, 02:56:38 pm
I'm a pretty big fan of Muse, and I always thought they certain songs of theirs sounded kind of Queen-esque.

I'm also a pretty big Queen fan.

Then they released their fifth album title The Resistance and I haven't had a chance to buy it yet, but while looking for previews of some of the tracks I found this little gem.

http://stereogum.com/?p=080181

And I'm just not sure what all the fuss is about. Queen was a great band, and so is Muse.

What are your thoughts?

Event System Requests / Now Taking Event Requests!
September 10, 2011, 12:55:33 am
The last topic for eventing requests seemed outdated.

I will be taking on simple requests (no scripting) for event systems for RMXP as I do not work with RMVX.

My general method involves brainstorming with vague ideas and then seeing what is actually possible.

SO! I would ask that you present your requests as concisely as possible. I will make up a rough draft of your idea and post them back in a timely manner.

Before posting, I would ask that you please make use of the search function to check that someone has not already done the work.

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing your ideas!

Is this what you had in mind Ryex?

Welcome! / Kenny Dies
July 13, 2011, 03:53:51 pm
Hello fellow Chaotic Persons.

I have recently cancelled my internet due to multiple copyright infringements accrued on my account by my roommate. I will probably laugh about that later. But for now, as you may have noticed I don't have a nearby internet source.

I DO plan on returning at some point in the future, but at this time it is undetermined when.

Actually this is probably for the best because I need to focus on my training right now and without the wonderful distractions of cable, internet, or phone, I now have several hours of my day back. It's ok though, I haven't had a facebook in months. I do plan on getting Google+ when it comes out though, and when I have net.

In about 2 weeks I will be turning drunk. I mean 21. Same thing. ^^

So without further delay, I bid you all adieu, farewell, goodbye, good luck!

Mapping & Eventing / Grassland Zone Mapping
March 24, 2011, 03:40:06 pm
Ok,

So I thought that since we are using a world map to select areas anyways, that I would simply force the player to go to the CZ. That way, once they beat the CZ the can return to the world map and once they have discovered the mountains they can just select those.

If this isn't how we want it, I can change it.

There is 1 hidden treasure box in every OUTDOOR map. 5 in total. See if you can find them all :)

Upgrade!
Version: 4.0
Type:Upgrade Game

Introduction

Keep training and upgrading your gear until you can beat the boss!

Hello players, welcome. What started out as a simple upgrade event system, has become so much more. Start with a low rank weapon and slowly work your way up, you'll feel like a man in no time. Surprise! You're in a coffee shop, where the hooded cloak guy known only in the database as "Mysterious Man" is plotting AND scheming. If you can't stop the mysterious man then surely doom awaits us all, except for me because the mysterious man's one weakness is my non-feminine smell. What kind of things is he up to you ask? BAD THINGS I assure you, look an evented title screen, 8 way movement and a piano. Buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-buh-POWAH!

Characters:

Name: AliveDrive

Author's Notes

(Almost) Completely scriptless, ergo fully compatible with anything.

Gave you the right starting weapon, this time it's a fair fight! -.-

Upgrades cost money so keep on fighting!

Fixed the bug where you could access the menu for the first two seconds of the game.

Filesize mostly due to the classy mp3's I used.

The title system could be used as a simple template for making an interactive title customized to your game.

*Only one example weapon is included. I may update this but making your own weapons is encouraged.

Comments always appreciated.

Pretty sure there are no bugs, but if you find one, you know the drill...

Script Requests / "Key Item" menu
February 26, 2011, 12:59:11 am
I'm looking for a simple key item type menu.

In my game "Cutscenes!", the player learns various tips and tricks about how to make those events really shine. But I'd like them to be about to recall that information at anytime. The easiest thing I can think of would be to have a key item menu, and then just make a "book" or "note" item which, when selected, refreshes them all about that thing they learned way back at the beginning. I'd like these "notes" to be seperate from regular items however, for convenience sake. I kinda want to make my own but since I know nothing whatsoever about coding, even a rough template to get me on the right track would be appreciated. Thanks guys.  :)

Event System Database / Stealth Event System
February 25, 2011, 10:02:47 am
Stealth Event System
Version: 1.0
Type: Gameplay

Introduction

This is a stealth event system. It is stealth not in the sense that you have to crawl, but instead must stay out of enemies "view". This is the first working version and I need some feedback to improve it. Tell me anything you'd like to see implemented and I'll do my best.

Features

  • Enemies can "see" 5 tiles in the direction they are looking.
  • If they see you, they will begin chasing you.
  • If they catch you, they will engage you in battle.
  • Enemies are not in very good shape and will give up chasing you 100 frames after you leave their range.

Screenshots

Spoiler: ShowHide

Demo

http://www.mediafire.com/?3qrz31v28a0f5am

Instructions

I made this for you! Completely scriptless!
Using 0 lines of code, 1 common event, 4 switches, 6 variables, and a partridge in a pear tree!
Everything is unencrypted so feel to peek inside the database at how it was done.
I'd appreciate if anyone with the know how took a look inside and maybe shared their thoughts on how to improve this.
Notes: I'm aware that it's a bit buggy. For instance, the enemy has tunnel vision... :/ I'm not sure how to improve on this. Also, running into the enemy against all logic will not engage battle. You must do everything on his (and the engine's) terms. Like my ex. ^.^

Cooking/Combination Event System v0.01
Version: 0.01
Type: Event System

Introduction

Though nowhere near completion, and hardly practical, presenting to you the Cooking/Combining Event System!

Features

  • Cooking consists of taking 1 raw ingredient and modifying it into an item usable on the field and in battle.
  • Combining consists of taking 2 or more ingredients and modifying it into an item for use on the field and in battle.
  • Primary difference being: Cooking requires you to be at a stove/fire/use logic people it's cooking.
  • Combining can be done anywhere, anytime.

Demo

Instructions

Instructions are included with demo.
I know you might not want to download to try it out so I'll just explain it here. I wanted a system like this in my game but couldn't really find anything to my specifications so I crafted one (albeit shoddy) system. The main downfall is that EACH and EVERY item has to be individually added which is why I only included a handful in the demo. I have plans to add around a hundred items over time. Each item has different effects and almost all benefit you or your party in some way. In its most basic form, its free/weak potions. On the combining bit, it will be more limited. For instance, I have included only two combines in the demo: bombs, and ecto plasm. Bombs are used for blowing strategic holes in walls, and ecto plasm is used for making bank.

New Projects / Story of my Life
May 20, 2010, 06:25:58 pm
Disclaimer: I'm still not an author but I'm working on it.
I am posting this in response to the requirements posted here http://forum.chaos-project.com/index.php/topic,35.0.html

Background Story: The BS for this game came about because I had been toying with RMXP for some time and several ideas connected into a

loose plot, (wait RMXP is spell checked? ADD TO DICTIONARY!) I didn't have very good internet, so I was limited in my search for custom scripts,

sprites, what have you.  But I recently moved into a new apartment, and with new wifi, I have got the ball rolling once more.
SomL is my 3rd attempt at making a game using RMXP. I basically got a few ideas for a story in my head and threw them into notepad. Everything

else sprang from me asking "I wonder if I could..." and attempting to do so. Without internet, I didn't know of certain sources such as Blizz

ABS. -.- I do now though.
MAIN STORY! Chapter 1 of SomL is about a young mercenary who finds himself on the wrong side of the law. The game's intro may leave you

feeling as if the game is silly, but I promise a much darker side of Alexander in chapter 2. Soon, Alex witnesses a girl with a very brave spirit

being harassed by some castle guards. After her (failed) attempt to fight them off. Alex is left with no choice but to go to the castle and find

out more about why the guards were so interested in this girl. I want to give Alexander a spectator feel in this game. He IS the main hero, but

he is also antisocial towards societies issues. Until he finds Catherine, the girl from earlier. So he goes to the castle and through a series of

events, finds himself in the King's favor. The main villain has plans to stir up some trouble (what villain doesn't) and it is up to the hero to

stop him.
Peeps
Alexander (Protagonist):  Is undergoing facial reconstruction until I find a darker vibe.
Personality: An undisclosed past, a distant present and a dark future. That's all for now. :)
         Age: He's 19.
Facts: Alex is proficient with the Knife-Rifle and later in the chapter, its burn inducing upgrade, the Knife-Rifle: Flame ^.^

Catherine (Potion): I only added you Cat because the game is too hard with one player! >:V
Personality: Catherine, you know, the one with all the good ideas that get us in trouble with the law.
         Age: She's 20. She doesn't act it.
Facts: Besides the signature kitten ears, Cat also specializes with the Claw Gloves, and later in the chapter, twice the fun with the

upgraded Double Claw Gloves.

Malott (Master Thief): You don't find him, he will find you :)
Personality: For now undeveloped, but think John McGinley of Scrubs fame.
         Age: He's 21.
Facts: Malott has his own weapon called the Thieves' Gadget, which does not see any use in Chapter 1 :(

But it's mostly about Alex and Cat.

I will most probably update this in the near future, if I haven't yet, I'm procrastinating.

Oh and the entire Chapter 1 of SomL is finished, I am making Chapter 2 with a bonus room at the beginning of the game that will be accessible if you beat the first game through. Actually it's not too good though. It came out in  February and I have improved a bit since then.
