It IS a bit disappointing to pay for a game with RMXP-style graphics, since so many other games are offering the same, but in the end it's just ONE aspect. If I bought a game, I'd think RMXP-style graphics would be a downer but 5 minutes into the game if I like the experience, I'll completely forget about it. It's just my opinion, though. After all, if you're selling your game to people who've never heard of RMXP, they are still new and fresh ;)
One more thing. Even if the graphics are RMXP-style, custom graphics will make the game better any day. I say the less you use from the RTP, the better.
Speaking of which, using the graphics from the RTP for commercial games made with tools other than RMXP/VX is not allowed by Enterbrain, but I think you already know that. So if you can gather a comprehensive set of graphics from other artists and they give you consent to use them in a commercial game, I say it's all good.

General Discussion / Re: Fluency in programming.
December 24, 2011, 07:58:39 am
I agree with thephantom completely (and welcome to CP :) ) Being comfortable with coding (and of course, coming up with the code yourself) is being fluent. What you said, Ryex, about implement any idea in any programming language and enviromment makes a successful programmer. It is the pinnacle of what any programmer would want to be: being able to handle code in any language and materialize ideas. Of course, that doesn't mean you should know all programming languages. The ability and confidence to tread into new territories and survive is what counts here.
Beyond that is sheer experience. Experience will teach us many little things which will make the overall procedure much more comfortable.

Nice! Thanks for letting me know about Cave Story Plus. *Subscribes*
BUT! I've decided to do a Let's Play Cave Story Plus of my own. Not to compete with you or anything, but I think I'll enjoy it. It's also gonna be my first Let's Play, so yeah. :)

Hi :)
The change you've made in the second variation ($actor_names = load_data('Data/Actors.rxdata')) shows that you have some idea about scripting, which will make it much easier for the both of us.
You've obviously figured out that you need to have the data loaded for it to be accessed. The load screen used to crash because $game_actors is normally loaded after loading a savefile.

QuoteThe problem with the second is that while there are no crashes when you try to save/load the file, the username doesn't change at all from what I've originally typed in the Game Database.

That's because Actors.rxdata contains the actor data you have set in the RMXP editor. So you're simply displaying the 9th actor's name from the database. To get the actor's name you've defined, you need to get the actor from the Game_Party object from the savefile.

But this gets me thinking. By user name, don't you simply mean the actor's name? Isn't that already displayed? Like Aluxes, Basil, etc? If you tell me what you mean exactly, I'll try to guide you.

BEAUTIFUL!!

I guess this is what you can do with powers of alchemy (as shown in full metal alchemist), by being Dr.Manhattan (from Watchmen), having control over mass and of course, with stop motion and special effects xD

The method you're looking for is make_action_orders in Scene_Battle 4. Just do your sorting there and you'll be good.

Haha, welcome to CP Chaos :)

I think Fenriswolf was joking about paying the entrance fee to join Chaos Project (but there is no entrance fee! :o) (And thus I ruin the joke >.<)

EXCELLENT mapping btw :)

General Discussion / Re: Naming my project
December 10, 2011, 06:01:54 am
QuoteAs if it's just another from the bunch and says hardly anything about the story and content of the game (perhaps a bit vague, but I suppose you get what I mean).

I know what you mean. You know what helps? Find the name from an important object or concept or a critical part of the story. Even if the name seems like nonsense in the beginning, the player can understand it as he keeps playing the game. Take Chaos Project for example. It doesn't make much sense at the beginning. Some project relating to chaos? It is cliche in it's own way. But as you play the game, you'll understand that Chaos isn't just a word, that it has a much more profound meaning in the story and it sits at the center of it. Now, You will find yourself liking the name more and more.
Then take Dark Eternal. This name, it doesn't even make sense after half-way of the game, but you'll grasp the full meaning near the end. Imagine how awesome the player will feel as he unfolds the story. Suddenly, the concept shown feels even more important because the whole game is named after it. But until that moment, the name is just some good-sounding combination of words.
So yeah. That's something to think about. Draw the name from the story and it'll be really awesome. Gives the player the feel that you've put thought into the whole game. :)

As winkio said, Darnonian Chronicles is the best among them (the others are waaaay too cliche, even for people unfamiliar with the RPG genre. Sorry ._.)
Again, Valor is pretty good.

Quote- final goals are learning about your parents, hunt down their killers and save the world (yes really, it can't get any more cliché)

Where's the princess? >_>
