Compatibility

I don't think it's compatible with Blizz ABS

Certainly doesn't seem like it, especially since it's an independent hash from XAS. I mean, he'd probably be more vocal about it being compatible with Blizz-ABS if he intended it to create it for that, but it seems it's simply, as I mentioned earlier, an independent script entirely with its origins from XAS.

Anyway, nice work, Drago. :)

Nope, only made more bugs... I cant use it really, guess I'll just stick to no mouse ;)

May help to specify what bugs pop up, so we don't have some supposedly even buggier version released or something...

News / Suggestions / Feedback / Re: Self-Help Section
December 25, 2011, 03:06:08 pm
Seeing that we've created boards like Academics, a "Self-Help" section seems to a nice, similar step to follow. Don't we love helping each other, giving sound advice and support in times of need? I'm a bit concerned whether or not it might be a board too superfluous. I suppose this logic goes along the same way for many boards (i.e. their parent boards suffice), but I always seen Chat to be a sound place to do any of this stuff already. A complete section, though, may garner topics that wouldn't have been made otherwise, though.

Wow, that's pretty cool. It looks like it has far more depth than your actual sprite though. I think the light source is inconsistent too, since it seems the light source for the umbrella is from the left, but the sprite's light source is up above or something.

It also seems like it's just placed on there for the moment, but I'm sure your current priority is to make a nice umbrella rather than getting ahead of yourself with the body pose or something.

Welcome! / Re: Hello everyone!

Our anti-botting registration system seems to be working a little too well!

Nice, extensive history. And actionscript, kudos to you on that... :)

Great to see you, welcome, welcome! Already seen some of your topics, and I'm already with glee at them.

Fantabulous. Clever, cute, funny idea. Just love on the spot. <3

I'd say that they are RTP styled, yeah... If you can perfectly have them fit with the RTP, then they're definitely RTP-styled, heh.

Don't let that faze you though! As Fanta (Fanta <3) and I have said, it's only one aspect of the game. It may be a tad disappointing, but if there's something that makes up for it, then it's very much acceptable.

General Discussion / Re: Mapping Improvement Thread
December 25, 2011, 01:28:39 am
It's a quaint, little map. So, seeing this is a poor, small town, the map acts like a linear dead-end point. There's the trail, and it more or less leads to each house, and thus does its duty for the player. So it's kind of like this town was entirely made as the player's rest stop, which might or might not be exactly the actual story's reason for this town's creation, y'know?

The map does seem a bit sparse too from that. I'm not quite suggesting to turn things into an unneeded, claustrophobic nature mess, but perhaps a little more natural eye-candy would do. The houses also seem to give a weird vibe from me, especially the windows to the wood on the top house there. Is it meant to be like that? I haven't really done much house physics or anything, so I'm not one to judge as well.

The glasses make you look a bit more suave. It's cool, but I like both styles as well.

And so my absence has taken me down to the streets...

It's pretty much that!

If you're making a commercial game, it's best to develop your own original style because it helps identify your game as your own, and not some RTP-styled game. It's definitely not wrong to use the RTP-style, albeit, as mentioned before, you can't explicitly use the RTP resources as per Enterbrain's EULA.

If I were playing a commercial game with RTP graphics, I'd initially be thrown off. It would have to have really awesome gameplay, story mechanics, or some other vital field to let me overlook that. Though... The Aveyond series seemed to have enjoyed a niche group of people, and that's RTP-styled and commercial.

This is why I love to universally say, "Happy holidays!" and "Seasons greetings!" so I don't need to entangle myself in the snares of timezones, dates, and everything else. :V:

But Merry Christmas to the world more east (and far west) than me. :)

Academics / Re: Speech Pointers?
December 25, 2011, 12:40:17 am
That's so awesome to hear! This reminds me of my Academic Decathlon times where I have to prepare and muster out a speech. It gets really nerve-wrecking when I'm not very familiar with my words, especially as I written my speech a little articulately. D'oh!

Is this the first time you've ever given out a speech? What would you say to other people who's in the same position as you? Can I have your babies?

Hey! Welcome to the forums.

That's a nice start to your umbrella, especially the fold-up. I'm not really a spriting expert whatsoever, so I'd love to have someone experienced in that field to put in their say, but I'll write this in the meantime. Take it as you will!

Although it depends on the light source, it'll probably help to look how the folds of an umbrella top-down would look like. I stumbled upon a few images through a quick search.

Spoiler: ShowHide

I suppose you should pay attention to how the folds work, and that's there a bright side and a dark side to everything. That's the basics of shading, really. Whatever the light source is directly hitting should have the brighter values, and whatever's getting the short end of the stick's getting the darker values. It's kind of hard to tell how you'll work your light source in exactly with that top-down, but I'm assuming the light source is somewhere at the top-right, so try matching that?

You can also read up some spriting tutorials on shading and textures. Here's one I read before. I hope it helps.

General Discussion / Re: Death in online games
December 25, 2011, 12:28:33 am
The only online games I've ever played are ones that send you to a certain respawn point upon death with lessened experience points as the punishment. It's probably done with very good reason - especially if players are dying commonly within the game. That way it'll be a quick way back to whatever the player was doing, or an instant change of strategy starting from said respawn point.

A mini-game may be totally unnecessary and annoying, and if the only point of the mini-game is to prolong that instant transition to safety, then some impatient players may get alienated from it. It'll probably be fun and enjoyable the first few times, but if you have a player who's a risk taker or where parties must always stay together, seeing that mini-game (especially numerous times) would only present a backache to them. You could say the best thing against that would be, "Tough luck, stop dying so much," or something, but that won't really solve much of anything.

I'm probably a bit bias or uninformed here because I haven't ever played an online game with a different death scene, so my opinion may not be as strong.

What kind of game is this? RPG, Action? What?
It's kind of like an RPG in an RTS sort of environment?

Real-time RPG? xD It's the same sort of thing as Defender of the Ancients was, which is an RPG-like game molded from an RTS.

The one thing I really like about the bricks is that it has some sort of nostalgic 16-color feel to it. It reminds me of the really old PC games that had extremely limited color palettes, but still had the charm of gameplay and recreational fun times infused within it.

Though, I'm sure it's safe to say that the darkest two brick walls are virtually charred. The brighter two are much nicer to look at.

Scripting & Game Experience / Re: Saving/Game Over
March 28, 2011, 01:53:44 am
That's fine. Experience is counter-intuitive and frustrating, and it also reminds me of the silliness with grinding when it comes to MMORPG's like Maple Story. The whole gold half-cut works wonders with every RPG, along with a bank system. The most recent RPG I've played that comes to my mind with this all is Earthbound, but there's a legion of RPG's that incorporate this too.

I think save points would be best, especially at really good areas. We can't make it seem random or just always obviously placed right before the heels of a boss, can we? I would imagine the better save points being right after some extremely tough ordeal that the player wouldn't want to face again (Not for the sake of laziness, mind you).

Anyway, la ~

Actually, I'm pretty surprised there isn't a League of Legends or DOTA thread in this board. I would imagine it'd fit quite well with this target audience. xp

I haven't played League of Legends, but I was very intrigued at one point. However, I'm still unsure of, and I definitely don't have the time to invest in playing it. What would be your say of League of Legends for a fascinated individual like me, Ulta? :P
