RPG Maker - Portable
By: ForeverZer0

I created portable versions of the RMXP and RMVX editors for those who want to use it on a computer that may not have it installed.  I compiled the editors, RTPs, libraries, and all necessary registry values into single executables.  They have no need for an install, and writes no data to the registry, since everything runs its own little sandbox.

The applications are trial versions, so you will need to insert the registration key you were given when you purchased your legal copy of RMXP/RMVX. I will not be providing links to keygens in this topic, so please do not ask.

RPG Maker XP - Portable (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20787370/RMXP/RPG%20Maker%20XP%20Portable.exe) (43.8 MB)
RPG Maker VX - Portable (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20787370/RMXP/RPG%20Maker%20VX%20Portable.exe) (69.0 MB) (Extra Graphics included)

Instructions
Simply click and run. There is no install, so it can be run from a USB device, or from wherever you like. If the PC does not have a file association set to the project file, you can either run the program and open it from that, or set the association to this application.

Known Bugs
I have found that it sometimes generates an error on starting the application on 64-bit versions of Windows 7.  I haven't found a fix for this other than to continue to try and start it, which I have found after enough times, will start.  Other versions of Windows I have tested work fine.

well done :)  The portable environment will save a lot of headaches, I'm sure.

You should pack it with the cracked SciLexer and everyone else will be even more happy. :V Good job even though you jacked the general idea from me. lol

There is no cracked SciLexer, is it used for syntax highlighting in the script editor.  I can't post a any cracks on the forum, but I'm sure if someone wanted to illegally obtain it, they are smart enough to google "RMXP keygen" and figure something out.

It was loosely based off your idea, but yours was for creating registry values for the computer it is being used on, this doesn't do that, just runs in its own little world.

Not SciLexer sorry, the PSIKey. I'm guessing this method of yours is used a lot for creating portable apps. You should post a tutorial.

Lol, I though about it, but it involves some cracked software itself.
I'll PM you.

I'm interested in how you did this too.

I just found out that the same method works for combining a game and and its Graphics, Audio, and Data subfolders into a single executable, safe from decryptors that are currently used to decrypt RMXP archives.

You should pm me as well about this.

I made a new build, uploaded it, and changed the link in the original post.

This version won't create that strange folder in the program's directory every time it is ran.

EDIT:
Added an upload for a portable RMVX editor, and some simple instructions.

Sorry to raise a three year old topic from the dead. But, i was wondering, would it be possible to make VX Ace portable like this? I have some rather bullshit classes at school, where the teach gives us the most basic shit about computer usage as assignments, and i would rather spend my time working on a game or something.

Yes, very possible and I have done it before. If you'd like, I'd be willing to e-mail you a "full" working version of it through PM tomorrow, I work all day today.

Thanks. I already own XP and Ace via steam and tried to just copy the programs to an USB stick, but that didn't work... Didn't launch and then i remembered these. ("funnily" enough no VX, just XP and Ace)Though, in all seriousness isn't Ace like VX but better in every way?

Uhm, Gameus, you still haven't sent me that PM? Or should i just do like a mobile installation of steam with the RM's on a stick instead?
In fact, is there a portable option during the installation of steam?

You could always try a portable version of Steam, I completely forgot about this, sorry. Let me see what I can whip up real quick, what OS do you need this to run on?

Was there ever an ACE version of this released, or could one please be made? I've been looking all over for something like this, so that I could work on my game on the go.

Have you ever thought about simply making it portable yourself? It's not ~that~ difficult to do...

I tried to figure out how to do this before asking, but I couldn't make any sense of it.  I saw that it was being talked about recently, so I figured I'd ask if it was still available.

If nothing else, would someone be able to link me to a simple tutorial on how to do this, hopefully in a way that someone who is clueless about this sort of thing could understand?

Since I forget/get lazy/too busy to build the portable app again, here's the steps Zer0 shared with me awhile ago.

This is recommended in a virtual OS or a nearly new OS, to avoid capturing any other data/registry entries. This also helps reduce the amount of time it takes to scan your system.
Obtain and install an app called VMWare Thinapp.
Run it and do an initial system scan.
Afterwards, install RPG Maker VX Ace and either proceed to enter your registration key or crack it.
After you know you can successfully run it, click the thinapp and do the second scan. If I recall correctly, it'll grab all new registry data, all new files, etc.. since the initial scan.
It should also ask you what executable to run, select your rpgmaker.exe here.

There might be another step or two in the app wizard, but for the most part, this is it and your program will now be portable. It is recommended to do this process on the operating system you're going to be running the portable app on. So if you're going to be using this at school that still runs Windows XP, do the process on a virtual machine running XP. This will help prevent a bug like below.

If you're going to be running your portable RPG Maker on 64-bit Windows 7, then do the above process on a 64-bit version of Windows 7. I remember testing it myself one time and the error was no longer there.

Your links are dead, Zero, i searched for an easy and simple method to make ANY software portable: cameo.

Here is a tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K77EeQmLhuc

Simply get a cracked rpg maker copy and follow the introductions, load it on a stick or external hard disk, done.
