Welcome! / Zeriab is back, this time with hugs
October 21, 2015, 05:20:04 pm
Hi all!

Long time no see. How have you all been the past couple of years?

There are 93 pages of unread pages since my last visit, so I'd rather ask you guys. What I have missed?
What's the progress with the ARC engine? Did you continue to work on it, or find something else to do?

It really is great to see you again

*hugs*

Not necessarily. It would be perfectly sensible for some slowdown caused by some overhead, but I agree, the slowdown appears to suggest more than just that.
Personally I suspect that autotiles are updated for the entire map.

Make a huge map like that in a clean project and it will lag as well. The lag created in big maps is mostly because of the huge number of tiles of which the map is composed. After all you have 3 layers on a 500x500 map which means 750000 sprites. Even if every sprites needs just a 0.1 microseconds to update, that's still 0.075 seconds for all of them together which means you can forget anything above 15 FPS.

Wait what? The standard tilemap is smarter than that only updating a little more than what's necessary.
There's just a momentary hold-up as you enter the map

XNA does indeed feel nice ^^
If were to develop a game for a phone and didn't consider the market I would definitely choose WP7 because of XNA.
Of course I would consider the market so I wouldn't choose WP7.

I bet Steam has helped way more in reducing piracy than say DCMA
OnLive is also an interesting prospect

Until they figure out a version where they don't shoot themselves too badly they won't get something passed.
At least we can be sure no version which attacks DNSSEC will pass. (Well... where it's known that DNSSEC will be attackeds)

Mobile gaming does indeed present itself as a good opportunity.

What about XBox 360 development? How do think the ROI looks for developing for that console looks?

Programming / Scripting / Web / Re: BASIC...Not visual

Which version of BASIC is this?
It doesn't look like QuickBASIC and it's not one of the earlier BASIC variants.

Do you want to just round down or do you want to make sure that the sum of all the amounts to be shared to each person is the same as the total amount of money?
If you round down there can be some money left.

Sea of Code / Re: Java Random number generator w/seeds
November 26, 2011, 11:46:50 am
Yes you can use a calculator to figure it out as long as you know what the seed variable is. I wouldn't suggest doing that.
Instead I would suggest simply simulating the behavior.
I.e. iterating over the xPosition and zPosition variables and then testing whether the code you posted returns true or false. You can do this because rnd.nextInt(10) always returns the same number with the same seed.
You can also do as stripe suggests in which cause you don't have to know the seed.

*hugs*

@Ryex: Getting true random numbers is possible and true random number generators do exist, but they are fairly slow in producing numbers as they rely on chaotic physical phenomenons.

RMXP Script Database / Re: [XP] Quest Book

I have fixed the script links.
The demo from sendspace works just fine for me. You can try downloading it again and see if it works.

Script Troubleshooting / Re: [XP] Laging HP bars?
October 11, 2011, 04:42:15 pm
It sounds like the bug in the DBS where it refreshes the status window every frame.
It's only worse because the hp bars take a long time to draw.
To see if that is the problem you can try using this: http://pastebin.com/mhfMHAqy

Mind you, this is simply a hack doing symptom treatment, but it can be used to diagnose the cause. Try showing a text message and see if there is any difference.

I thought with all the law stuff you talked about the infringement stuff rather than having giving Google certain rights :>

It was a fun discussion either way ^_^

I perfectly understand google in this case and it probably was an automated takedown by some party taking care of IP stuff for Nintendo who decided to say it infringed some copyright. I can't say I like their overly aggressive style.
It is cool that google tell you about it.

@F0:
I in particular wanted to contest your: You posted it "illegally" and were caught.

Erhm... ForeverZer0, you can't really know whether it broke the law or not. It is not particular clear cut because of fair use.
Parodies are tricky, but courts do favor them sometimes and assuming Tuggernuts have the copyrights to the drawings (whether they infringe trademark/designs/etc or not) I would put my bet on fair use. The only question is whether the brutality, or more likely, boobs (even though they were only applied) count against.

So is it really illegal or not?

Not that it really matters since I am sure google have the rights to disable your video even without giving any reason.

Like they are even going to check for whether fair use is applicable or not.
They could perfectly fine just do a copyright infringement claim => automatic deletion.
You probably have given them rights to delete your videos as they wishes.
