No, Bender would say something more along the lines of "You humans are useless and suck, but we robots are awesome especially me, and if you want to disagree you can bite my shiny metal ass."

Anyway.... Yeah I have yet to find someone better than blizzard, or more universally known in the rmxp community. I have to wonder if he has any spare time though, with the ammount of coding he does, and the pure awesomeness that comes from each little line. He must have nearly every ruby command possible memorized by now.
Unfortunately he spends his time scripting for a 2d game engine that allows him to make little to absoloutly no money for his superior tallents, from what i have found, for purposes other than rpgm itself ruby is a pretty useless language, no one uses it because there are programming languages much more versetile, so everyone learns those languages that way they can program a larger variety of things. Now i admit i could be mistaken and gravely misinformed but i have yet to see evidence that says so.
Not trying to be insulting.... just saying that bliz has a lot of tallent, but he has invested his time in an outdated programming language.

hmm.... I guess I could see what you mean with the events, but there are a couple things i cant figure out how to do.

I get that it would be a common/global event, but im not sure how to make it call on the event to start every time a basic attack is used. Secondly, the sp/mp adding, stopping the event if the player misses, the exact way to set up the timing mechanism ( if i knew that i could make the animation go with it,) how you would work out countering, that kind of stuff, ill give you a better idea of what would happen i guess.

Command was imput
Was command Basic attack?: No = end function Yes = Continue
Command was basic attack, play animation X + start timer
Wait for new imput...
Was imput given between timer time a and timer time b?
No = End function Yes = Continue function
Add X sp
Is next attack a counter? Yes = change to animation y No = Continue with function
play animation X + start timer
Wait for new imput...
Was imput given between timer time a and timer time b?
No = was attack counter? (yes = Effect b, end function)(No = end function) Yes = Continue function
Add X sp
Is next attack a counter? Yes = change to animation y No = Continue with function
play animation X + start timer
Wait for new imput...
Was imput given between timer time a and timer time b?
No = was attack counter? (yes = Effect b, end function)(No = end function) Yes = Continue function
Add X sp
(until function ends or function has force end by function length limit)

sorry not good at this.... i hope you understand

New Projects / Re: OpenRPG/RGame

Hmm, interesting, unfortunately I know little to nothing about ruby scripting and most other programming languages. However, I am full of creativity, and fresh ideas.
This sounds like a great idea, I'm just not sure of how you would get it to work and exactly what you are going for.
From what I have read, my understanding is that you want to make RMXP but... an open source version, you want to make it from scratch, more customisable, and yet many of the feautures hard to acess in rmxp you want to make easy?
Well the first thing that I think is wrong with RMXP is that it only supports ruby programming, very few serious programmers learn ruby, perhaps a more common or simpler lang (python was suggested I believe.)
If it gets to the point where you want resources I can give sound resources a shot....

Can someone please at least look at this and tell me the kind of difficulty involved...

Though soulbound is a common concept (at least in mmo's) no game has been named that yet (to my knoledge) so i would say your safe. Anyone of the words could be used in a game name and not sound lame, it would just take some serious thinking to do so.
Dead March is also fine, Though I have to ask that you make a sequel called Dead April.... jk..
6
Since i probably wont be using him.... ill give you my boss idea.

Boss name here
hp of 5 monsters in the area put together (not that much but you will see why)
Special attack: Human shield (either the heros are trying to rescue innocent victims of this thing or the monster uses one of the heroes themselves, as a shield. If it's attacked when it is using this ability it hurts the hostage instead, if the hostage is a person other than a hero, and they die, the battle is lost, if its a hero, they can be "pheonix downed" The boss uses this ability most of the time only when a special condition is met does the ability go down, then there is one or two turns before it uses the ability again.

Itll make for a really interesting and hard battle if you can do it right.
7
The mosters in the world shouldn't be considered Monsters, remember, these people have lived with these things all of their lives, they are wild animals to them, not strange monsters from another world, but try not to use too much jargon, it makes things confusing for players.
8
You could be like the FF series, the boss has attacks just a bit more than normal, and tons of hp, with an ocassional super attack (like a 10% chance of using it.)
Or you could be creative.... Like blizzard sugested.

General Discussion / Bad Game Name word List
February 19, 2009, 01:58:53 pm
This is a list of almost every word you never want to see in your game title, either because it's cliche, over used, or other.

1. Chronicles - Single most overused word in video game titles, and also often improperly used. Please if you absoloutly must use it, check it's dictionary definition.
2. Super - Not necissarily something you put in the title of an rpg, but none the less, the only justifyable reason for this word in your title any more is if it was made in the 90s for the super nintendo entertainment system.
3. Extreme - Games with this in their title seem to be anything but extreme.
4. Ultimate - Your game is bound to be an Ultimate Failure, if this word sounds like a good word to put in your title.
5. Party - o.O wait what? an rpg with the word Party in it? Bad idea....
6. Dragon - This is the most cliche, and should only be used if your game's point is to be cliche.
7. Magic/Mana/Other word for magic here - If its common term for magic its a bad idea unless you got a really good reason.
8. Apocolypse - Zombie can be okay, but if your title is something like "Ultimate Dragon Apocolypse" go as 4chan /b for help, im sure they will tell you to kill yourself, and I agree.
9. Love - Depends on it's sourounding words, but its kinda cliche even if its not used often.
10. Journy - Every rpg has one... why must yours be part of your title?
11. Secret - Ill tell you what is not a secret, a game with this in the title totally doesn't have one!
12. Final - As we have all seen with the popular series "final fantasy" final... actually means "we are gonna go on for another 500 games if we can.
13. Fantasy - No..... its a sci-fi rpg! Lets call it Final Sci-fi instead!!!
14. Crystal - lets face it, anything that sounds semi magical has been used.
16. Demon/Angel - Im gonna stop explainging these now
17. Legend
18. Profecy
19. Epic
20. Blood
21. Eye
22. Monster
23. Sword
24. Story
25. Knight
26. Night
27. Power
28. Gold
29. Villan
30. Darkness
31. Light
32. Seven
33. Six
34. Tree
35. Fire

There are about 100 more no-no's so the list will grow as sugestions are added, and if you dont agree with something i have said, fine, use the word in your title.... but i still advise caution when doing so.
Oh and yes some of the words are mispelled, but are generally recognizable.

I wasn't attesting to his skills when i mention the whole "better than IE, pff not hard" i was simply saying that IE sucks balls. They are totally unoriginal too, all their new features came from firefox first.
Sure you cant get much better if he is using the same engine, but in theory he could have it layed out better, take up less space, and look pretier.

Alright I have added a small section to my post, it is what other members have recomended, seeing as how I cannot personally verify their up and down points. If I get around to it, I may try some of these out some time and then give my opinion on them, In the mean time you are all welcome to recomend programs, and give a small thing on them, I will add it to the last section on the post.

@Reno - Pretty much any anti virus will slow you down when its running a scan. What you have to watch for is when it's slowing you down when your not scanning. If that is the case, the protection can be worse than actually having some of the spyware lol.

@Bliz - Yeah if i check out one version of NOD ill be sure to check out both, so I can personally attest to what is better in what ways. If NOD is a pay for thing though, the probability that I will check it out is significantly lower. Even if it has a trial.

Yayz for powerz!

Electronic and Computer Section / Re: EXPLORER.EXE
February 12, 2009, 11:34:42 pm
Exporer.exe is a necissary process in windows, its the thing that allows you to brows your computer and it's files. It ocassionally does this for long periods of time. There is no REAL fix for it, its windows, there is the problem right there. I really sugest you defrag and pray it works. You see.... windows requires what is refered to as a GIANT RAM PENIS!!!!!! It unecissarilly requires massive ammounts of ram for no good reason, processor too. Ubuntu linux can do 4 times as much with half the resources, that is how bad it is, and it gets worse, the more updated your windows becomes. It has nothing to do with Ubuntu being good or anything, its everything to do with windows being a resource whore.....
Cant tell you more than that. Sorry. If someone knows more than I do about this, please show me im wrong, i really hope im wrong and that windows doesn't suck that bad, but until then....

@bliz: Spybot will clean your registry, and that defragger (if you buy the full version) will defrag it. As far as cleaning your HDD i will post something as soon as I find one i like. Spybot may or may not fix linking errors (i forget.) As far as AVG goes, your right, it is only the best FREE virus scan software. There are much better ones that you can pay for, but they can empty your wallet, and slow down your computer. The new norton is way better than the old, but still has some issues. If your gonna pay for one I would suggest Norton, not Mcaffee, Mcaffee is a pain in the ass every minute of every day. As far as NOD goes, never actually used it, first I have heard of it.
@reno: Avg sometimes doesn't do the best job of actually removing the viruses and has to put a lot of them in it's vault so that they cant run amuck on your system and spread. So instead of actually getting rid of them, you just freeze them permanently. Mind you it doesn't do this with all, just the ones it has trouble removing. Glad you like spybot, be sure to manually update, and set your schedualers, and enable advanced user mode. Also avg takes forever to scan and your computer slows considerably while it is doing so, so i really recomend you have it do it at like 3am.
@nam: I do too ^_^. Once a week. Dont do it more than that, because defragging can actually ware out your hardrive, all hardrives actually have a limit of how many times you can read and write to and from them, before they break, (mind you its like a billion or more.)

Side note: Spybot will not cover all adware, but will for spyware. If you are really super concerned about adware (i wouldn't be, its not harmful, just slows down the programs that have it,) you can get adaware by lavasoft. It sucks but its free.

The Basics of Good Computer Hygiene

Hello there Chaos Project  :D welcome to Xero's Computer Hygiene class.
Some of you might be wondering:
What is computer Hygiene  :???:
It's simple really.
-Good computer Hygiene means you are taking care of your computer, watching out for its health, and cleaning up any messes you might make.
-Bad computer Hygiene means you are visiting lots of porn or warez sites and not watching your back, another problem is often Torrents  :( .
"But Xero! I like my porn! I cant live without it!  :shy: "
Thats okay! You dont have to! You just have to clean up your computer when you are done  ;)
"Where do I clean up? Is it hard?  "
Not at all kiddos  :D Its really quite easy. Just clear your cookies and run a virus scan every once in a while!"Cookies? I like those! They taste good!"
 No silly! not those kind of cookies! Here let me explain in detail!

Cookies: Cookies are little devices that internet browsers and sites use to do thing such as keep track of wishlists or what you did last time you where there. Some sites though use them for more dangerous activities, such as grabbing and stealing your passwords, or watching what other sites you visit and sending that information back to the person that planted the cookie, so that they know what to advertise on their site. This can all be very bad if you do any sort of online banking, or you have any private information on your computer at all.
What to do: Well you dont want to turn cookies off, because many sites need them, so that you can use the site's full array of features, Instead, in many browsers (such as Mozilla FireFox) you can have the computer automatically delete the cookies when you close the window, you can also do things like this with your browsing history.  In internet explorer you can go up to the menu bar and go to "Tools" then to "Internet Options" then on the general tab you can go down and hit the "delete browsing history" button. A submenu will pop up and several more options will be available, you will want to hit delete on both temporary internet files, and cookies.

"Alright Xero! I deleted my browsing history and cookies and temporary internet files. Im all clean right!?  8)Wrong, sorry kiddo, its not that simple. Sometimes mean people go through too much trouble to be foiled by that alone. That only covered cookie type spyware. There are hundreds of types  :^_^': .
"Oh no! What do i do!? I dont want them stealing my information and identity! :o "
Dont worry too much, there are hundreds of programs out there that stop bad people like that, and your Identity is more likely to be stolen from mail you didn't shred or some giant company's computer than your own, though it never hurts to be safe. Its really hard to get all the nooks and crannies that spyware hides in, so sometimes you need help.
"But Xero! You said there are hundreds of programs! How do I know which one is the best!?"
Well there is no sure way to tell which one is the best, some programs are better at picking up certain types of spyware, adware, and viruses than others. So if you have both Norton and Mcaffee on your computer, one will pick up one set of problems, and the other will pick up another, of course there are some that they will both see, but these are the easy ones that everyone sees. The problem with this is that both Norton and Mcaffee are expensive, and its not worth it to buy them both, or even one of them if you can get the same protection for free.
"But Xero! Pirating is Illegal and morally wrong!  :o "
Well buddy, I never said that you had to pirate. There is a lot of free software out there too. Just like there are badguys that will give you spyware for free, there are also good guys that will take it away for free too.
"So which programs should I use?"

Avg Anti-Virus - Avg is a great free bit of software, it catches most viruses and as long as I have had it, I have never had a problem. One of the greatest bits about avg is that it updates roughly every 6 hours, so you know your always the most up to date in the war against nasty computer viruses. Of course AVG also has a full paid for version, it costs around $25USD for a 2 year contract, instead of $120 for a 1 year with MCaffee. The full version catches spyware and adware too. Avg even scans your email, and as a nice little schedualer so that you can have it scan every couple of days or so in the middle of the night while your not using your computer.

Spybot Search & Destroy - Spybot S&D is great for many reasons beyond just spyware. Though you have to manually update it, it comes in many languages, and is also free. It has several other tools too that are not spyware related. Such as a registry cleaner and fixer, a little thing called TeaTimer which double checks with you when something potentially harmfull tries to change your registry, it also comes with a device that stops annoying "Quick Loaders" from activating, you pick and chose which ones do and dont get to, this leads to a faster boot up. It also loads your HostS file with tons of dangerous sites, so that your computer cant access them by accident, no matter what internet browser you are using. Spybot doesn't have a pay version, it runs entirely on donations. Meaning if you like the software, you can donate to the site so that they can continue updating and making it. Spybot also has a schdualer so you can set it to run at like 4am when your not using the computer.

"So Xero, are these programs the best?"
No not necissarilly, these are just my person favorites. Its impossible to tell which one is the end all be all best, but easy to tell when something is bad and doesn't protect you very well.
"So thats how I keep my system clean huh?"
Well not entirely, thats just a couple ways to stop other people from messing it up for you. Of course if you download or install something dangerous your still in trouble until it's removed, so you have to be careful who you trust, especially with torrents. There are other parts to computer Hygiene too.
"What more!?"
Yes more, sorry but if you want your computer to last, there are a lot of things you can do to take care of it. A good example is defragging.
"Defragging?"
Yeah its a simple process in which the computer rearanges bits and pieces of files so that they are all in one place together, that way when you use your programs, the computer doesn't have to look all over for the files.
"Xero, now your just being silly, all of the files for my programs are in the same folder."
Well yes, thats true, but thats just how you see them, the computer has several spinning discs in the hardrive, and even though you see all the pieces together, they can still be in many different locations on those discs. The computer doesn't like to have wasted disc space, so when you have a whole bunch of files, and you delete some, then install a new program, it fills in the gaps on the disc where you deleted files from, but sometimes there isn't enough space right there. So it uses all of that space, then searches for the next empty space on the disk. When you defrag, it simply moves those blocks around so that all of the files that work together, sit right next to eachother. Unfortunately though, you need free space on the discs inorder to defrag, so always leave about 15% of your hardrive space free.
"Xero, my defragger takes forever! Windows is sooo slow! I dont want to defrag, its too much time."
Well bud, you need to, about once a week is best. If you really have problems with the speed, try deleting a few things if your hardrive is kinda full. You can also just set it up to run when you go to bed. The bad thing about windows is that its defragger takes forever, and is inefficient. You also cant do anything at all while its doing it, or you might screw up the computer. There are alternate defraggers out there, my personal favorite is:

Auslogistics Defrag - This little defragger is great, it runs fast, and when your done it tells you how much effeciency you have gained out of defragging, though somtimes i doubt its accuracy. Its free to defrag, but there are some other features it has as well, these cost to get though. Personally i wouldn't get them, you can get free programs that will do those too, spybot can do most of them. Another great thing about this is that you can do other things while it's defragging. It slows down the comp a tiny bit while it's doing so, and it will slow down a lot when its defragging something you are currently using, but it is well worth getting, especially for free.

"So Xero is that all?"
Well no, there is always more you can do, but for now that is all you should worry about. If the programs I listed dont meet your needs then you have a big problem, and its probably too late. If after a couple trys you still cant get your system clean, you might just want to do a system restore or f-disk(reformat) the whole thing, and be more careful next time.
Remember it's always easier to maintain, than to clean up after you let the problems pile up for a while.
:D

Programs Recomended by Other Members:
Blizz: NOD 2.7 (or so)
Multiple: CCleaner

When buying a HDD there are a couple things you should watch out for.... DONT BUY HITATCHI! Hitatchi drives have a history of burning out after about 3 months.
As blizz said the rpms will speed up your load times but not your running speed (unless your loading constantly) also solid state drives are the best for that kind of thing (no moving parts = fastest) but they are also the most expensive.
As far as the lower gig drives, i wouldn't reccomend it. The thing is, when you have a bigger hard drive, you tend to use it, when you have a smaller hard drive, as long as its not way too small, you make due, so once you have the 1 TerraByte... you will find a way to use it.
Also, because you are going external, you have to remember to be careful that you dont drop it, and keep in mind that the rpm speed will only help to a certain point because your USB port can only transfer data at certain speeds.
If you really want your comp to run fast, have as few programs on your main HDD as possible. It will make it so that your main hard drive can concentrate on running windows. Windows needs a certain ammount of free space to survive to begin with.
Another thing as far as speed goes is that when you start up your computer, almost any program you have installed will want to have their "quick loader" in your running programs. This means aditional time on start up to bring up these background processes which eat up ram. There are a few programs that can help prevent/stop this, but most of them cost money. A good thing to do is just download Spybot Search and Destroy and go into the advanced options where you can set what processes it allows to start up on start up. This will increase your boot speed and the ammount of free ram you have at any given moment.
Another quick fix is to reformat your hardrive, this will get rid of fragmented files, or rather unfragment them. What happens is... you know what, screw it, im just gonna start a new topic on good computer higene, you can read up on it there.
My end all sugestion is get a external hardrive that has around 300-500 gigs. Anything more is too expensive, and anything less is a waste.
I personally recomend: This one
That website is great too, i have yet to catch them giving me the shit end of the stick, and most of the time they are actually cheaper than retail stores. Not sure if they ship outside the USA though.
That particular harddrive is roughly 137.4 aussi dollar (conversion rate is 1usd=1.527 Aussi)
17
Wow that is just awesome GG, I'm sure with some time you could make something better than IE (not hard.)
I suppose the biggets problem now would be plugins, or addons... hehe, firefox uses dynamic plugins, which means no matter which browser they are meant for, they will work ^_^.

Resources / Re: Constructive Critism Needed on T-Screen
February 11, 2009, 09:20:48 pm
This could be improved drastically. Though I see where you are going with this, the colors are very light. Most zombie games are darker, the light coloring doesn't give it any sort of creepyness. For MS paint this is phenominal, but unfortunately some people playing the game wont realize this and will judge it based upon what they see, not what they know.
If you could change the brightness, and take it down a bit, especially around the edges, but leave her eyes bright, and darken in around her clothes so that it doesn't show quite a full figure, it could make it a lot creepier.
The text would then have to become another color, I see that you just made it negtive, though this can make it easier to see, it doesn't always, and your text seems rather cut up in places. I'm sure its on purpose, but perhaps a bit less cut up would look nicer.
Also as someone already mentioned, I hope you have that persons permission to post their image in your game.
If I had my comp up and running and wasn't using someone elses, i would photoshop it to show you what i mean. Perhaps later though.
Hope this helps, I'm not trying to be mean, so please dont take it that way.
Oh btw: Congradulations, You just lost the game.

Script Requests / [xp]Creation System - Needs Fixing
February 11, 2009, 09:07:02 pm
Basically the creation systems (item/weapons) offered at this site where not exactly what I was looking for, but I did find one (after about 30 seconds of googling) The unfortunate part is that something is happening when i try to create the weapons in the demo. The game crashes. I have tried several times over and over again with different combos of items, it still crashes every time.
I was wondering if someone here could take a look at the script or something to figure out what is going on, and hopefully fix the problem. If you would rather just make the system over again (doubtfull) thats fine too, w/e I just need the features/fuctions that this one has.

Link to Original Site
Download Demo

The creator of the script seems to have put this up for free distribution, no conditions, which im assuming he just wants credit.
There are a few other things about the script that seem to be annoying as well (cant handle more than one weapon with the same ID, meaning putting weapons in shops is impossible) it would be nice to find a fix for these, but not entirely necissary. I can always try to work around them.

Yes, sorry I'll edit it.
