Here we use the standard languages for Web Design

  • HTML

  • CSS

  • Javascript

As for the Server Language we use C# as we only develop (at least my sector) for ASP.NET platforms (SharePoint, Umbraco, MVC, etc..)

QuoteI know a lot of places out there deny people because they don't have the academic exp. but these days it seems companies are getting in influx of people with degrees who are basically useless.
a degree seems to be less and less valuable these days and even a liability in many cases.

This is somewhat related to me. As some of you know I work at as Web Designer but unlike 99% of the people of this company I do not have a degree neither I have ever been to university. I am 17 years old but the guys decided to give me a chance after they saw what I could do in a period of 1 month and a half as a student intern from high-school. My evaluation was if I remember correctly 18/20 overral and they made me a 9 month job offer to further see my skills.

So getting to the point, I have seen many people that have a masters degree here and are even worse than I am (a 17 yo boy with no college experience) and that made me realize degrees are meaningless for the most part. Even tough I'm still an intern (but now I get paid unlike when I was at school) my experience in the field grew exponentially in the time I've been here.

Since very young I was a very talented guy, could do pretty much everything without any kind of effort... and what I couldn't do I just dropped out of it. I hated that part of myself. That is the main reason I didn't got into college as I failed the entrance exams, because, I made a different life choice and my country is so proud of its educational system, that when we make something different from the "normal" people we get forgotten. For that reason I wasn't taught anything that the "normal" kids have. Still I had the same entrance exams as them even tought my area was completely different. Funny isn't it? And programming was the first thing that I hadn't really the "sinergy" to begin with.

I mean once I got into it for a few days, and I got the basics of it, the rest was pretty much automatic (like always), but if I hadn't had that first effort (really my first effort in life) my life could be completely different at this point.

So to finish off I was really lucky even tought I don't have a degree to get a job on the field (which is rare in this country, even with a degree), hell it's rare even to get a job here! Fucked up country I live in. Pretty sure my hobby as a game developer made me get this job as it increased my skills by a lot.

Anyways I hope u enjoyed this story of a "strange" guy in a "strange" life.

QuoteI have vivid memories of spending hours working on the layering of trees in a forest map just to get it to look right.  I spent hours changing the layout numbers on an HUD script, then going in to test play, then changing the numbers again, then testing again

I think everyone who did UIs had this issue, it's such an easy task but it takes so long because the way it's done isn't productive. For instance having a tool that you could throw graphics and change its numbers in real time, and you could see the result, would make a task of 8 hours for instance into 15 minutes.

Most people can't think small, talking from personal experience because I can't do it, the only project I manage to complete to 100% was something to graduate from school. It was quite simple and could be achieved in a couple of hardworking days. But I felt that wasn't enough, I am not proud of that project, when I should, I just think I could do so much better but I knew if I went any further it would be too big to handle in that time. But then again big projects most likely don't get finished, people loose interest, get tired of working on it and not seeing any results, and as winkio said even simple tasks demand great effort and I think if there were better ways of doing this, if people stopped reinventing the wheel, if people concentrated their effort in tools to aid them in their game dev carrer, productivity would grow exponentially. It's not just making a game that matters, the way that you do it and how you do it matters aswell.

This certainly looks a great project. Unlike my past project... *looks into the past and cries violently*, when do you plan to show us some action?

Congrats dude, seems like everyone's making progresses in their game design carrers and I'm here like :V: , still I do agree that stability and performance are a key point when comparing games in a competition like thise, I'd say even more than "innovation" and as you could see the juris agree with me (or I agree with them).

I also agree on the stream system, I'd say a stream would break down, when missing a shot, when a piece of barrier is lost and when you fire a wrong shot.

"The game is produced by Niantic Labs, founded by one of the creators of Google Earth John Hanke."
Sooo google is behind this, but not really secretly

Also I don't know if this is a requirement, but that pokeball shaped thingy actually has a function:

"Pokémon Go Plus connects via bluetooth and notifies the player of any nearby Pokémon, it worn on the wrist & as a clip-on"

I have no words.

Also if you have WP, who told you to buy that shit
33
If you didn't saw it already I PM'ed you the files, they should work no problem whenever you put them. I also included instructions on the PHP file on how to add social media links / buy links / albums and musics
34
I think I got everything covered, I'm going to send you the files via PM. And I don't remember ever saying I wanted a payment  :xP:
35
Actually I don't think so, since that's the request that's taking long not the loading itself. Anyways I've completed the website can find it in the usual place:

http://soulsogame.byethost22.com/Blizzard/

Tell me when I have the gree nlight to send it to you. I've been testing on the host for some time and it seems that those wait times are like 0.5s now.

I'll leave home now, later I'll see if I can do something about that issue

Edit: I forgot to make the part of "links to buy" dynamic, woops, I'll take care of it when I get home

1. When I play the first song and then try to play the second one without stopping the first, the second won't start. I've waited for 10 seconds or so. When I tried doing that again, it worked fine more or less. It seems that it's taking some time to load the files, because the first play in general takes a few seconds. I would assume that the lib downloads the audio file and then plays it rather than streaming.

This is from the host, locally it works flawless, since it just starts downloading the song after you click it, and the host is slow it takes some time to start downloading, but I started the first and then the second and in 3 to 4 secods the music started.

2. Make the button fading faster. At least 2-3 times faster.
IDK if completely hiding is such a good idea. I don't want people to miss the fact that you can play the demos. Maybe fade them only to 50% or 25%?

Done.

3. The album image doesn't flip when I switch albums.

Well, I still haven't done that XD

4. Make the contact info bold in About. I noticed that it doesn't stand out and it would be good if it did.

Done.

5. I just noticed for the first time that the Facebook and Soundcloud links are missing. xD This will also need to go into some sort of data management.

I'll do that at the same time I'll do the musics and albums.

Oh the double posting, but it's for a good reason!

Guess what: moar updates so here's a list:

- Play button now is actually a button (before it was just an empty rectangle with a background), this should fix opera problems
- Modified the design a little bit, so now it looks more a "list".
- Did all the logic needed to switch songs and such, I've hardcoded 2 songs for now.
- Switched to a jQuery audio lib to handle audio files better, the downside with audio in html5 is that you have to atleast have the song in 2 formats (mp3, ogg) to be compatible with all main browsers. If you don't want that we'll have to stick with flash for audio.
- Resposive design update woohoo , now it looks fancier
Spoiler: ShowHide

I'll upload it in 5 minutes or so, so if you don't see the updated yet, it's because I'm still uploading. I'll edit the post to warn tough.

All that is left now is the data management which should be relatively easy and I'll have it done by tomorrow. So maybe tomorrow you can have your website in testing phase :D

EDIT: Okay so it took a little longer than 5 minutes, hadn't noticed a huge bug in the code and was fixing it. So now everything should be okay.

Also, no the buttons aren't missing, just hover in the music row and he'll appear. I've disabled this in smaller screens cause it means that they are on a touch interface therefore it would be impossible for them to see the button

Be sure to hit ctrl + f5 to reload without the cached page

The Opera Next doesn't support automatic margins for what I see, I have the image centered with those margins but it seems that there they simply don't care.

The sound not playing is actually pretty odd, since that is basic JS, I'll have to take a look but my guess is that SRWare Icon doesn't support audio/video tags, I'll probably have to switch to use a jquery lib to play the sound and ensure better compatibility.

On chrome it does work since it's there that I'm testing, IE should have no problems aswell, I'm just kind of affraid that transitions won't work well on Firefox
39
Yeah I think they look good, thought they would look better with icons, but I can't seem to find a font with those. Also one of your links is down.

More testing to you : http://soulsogame.byethost22.com/Blizzard

Still have to do the data management but I've got the layout sorted out. Test the responsive design in your devices and tell me of any thing that looks weird

1. The copyright notice should either be static or completely removed. (I'd prefer it removed completely.)
2. Text shouldn't be selectable.
3. Opening a URL should open a new tab.
6. If you want to remove "Contact", add the email in "About".

Done.

4. The stuff in "Buy" looks weird centered. Are you sure about this?

I've almost 100% sure that the text is centered. If that's not what you meant by it, tell me what then
