Title: Trigun synchtube party?
Post by: winkio on August 23, 2011, 12:40:19 am
I am in the mood to watch Trigun again, and I thought that maybe other people might want to watch it as well.  I was thinking of doing one episode a night at around midnight Eastern time.  Of course, I'll just watch it on my own if nobody is interested, but it is the only anime that I have ever watched that was truly enjoyable the whole way through, and you are definitely missing out if you haven't seen it.  I'm starting tomorrow night with the first episode around 23 hours and 20 minutes from this post.

Midnight Eastern Time? That's GMT+6, right? It would translate into 17h here.
What's the anime about, gimme a quick rundown so I don't have to wiki it.

To be honest, I didn't know what it was until i just wiki'd it, and wow... I ALWAYS watched this as a kid! And I always wanted to know the name again! Fucking sweet. <3

QuoteKnown for its Space Western theme, Trigun is about a man named "Vash the Stampede" and the two Bernardelli Insurance Society employees who follow him around in order to minimize the damages inevitably caused by his appearance. Most of the damage attributed to Vash is actually caused by bounty hunters in pursuit of the "$$60,000,000,000" (sixty billion "double dollars") bounty on Vash's head for the destruction of the city of July. However, he cannot remember the incident clearly due to his amnesia. Throughout his travels, Vash tries to save lives using non-lethal force. He is occasionally joined by a priest, Nicholas D. Wolfwood, who, like Vash, is a superb gunfighter with a mysterious past.

As the series progresses, we learn more about Vash's mysterious history and the history of human civilization on the planet Gunsmoke. The series often employs comic relief and is mostly light-hearted although its tone shifts toward darker and more dramatic situations as the series draws to a conclusion. The story line also involves moral conflict pertaining to the morality of killing other living things, even when justified (e.g., self-defense).

So the series starts off as pure comedy.  Vash is this extremely goofy guy, and although he has a gun, he doesn't fire it for the first few episodes.  Then, when he finally is forced to, he does fight, and he is godlike with a gun, although he doesn't kill anybody.  He is still really goofy though.  Then, at the end of the first season, (Episode 12 or so), things take a dramatic turn, and it starts a storyline involve lots of Vash, gunfights, and pain.  It gets really, really dark, up until the next to last episode.  Then, at the final episode (26), the final showdown happens, but it's nothing like expectations, and creates a great ending to the show.

Also Blizz, i think its gmt - 4 or 5.  anyways, as i said, 24-ish hours from my last post, or 13 hours and 40 minutes from this one.

2 more hours.  It will be in CP's synchtube since nobody ever uses it anymore: http://www.synchtube.com/r/ChaosProject#

EDIT: well apparently embedding is disabled for the official videos, which means synchtube won't work.  Here's the show page for anyone interested: http://www.youtube.com/show/trigun?s=1

Another series that I would personally recommend is Death Note. I give it a 9.5 / 10 and I seriously wouldn't know what to improve to make it 10 / 10. I watched it a year ago or something like that and it was amazing. While some situations and conclusions were rather unrealistic (regardless of the whole premise of the series), they were executed in such a clever manner that you enjoy it to the fullest. If you are into crime novels and thrillers, Death Note is a must to watch.

hm, I don't know if I want to watch another series.  I like Trigun so much because it's both hilarious and full of raw emotion.  Most suspenseful or complex story lines I encounter seem too overwrought.  Trigun, on the other hand, has a ridiculously simple premise that allows the characters to really shine through.

Ah, I get it. xD

Well, the general premise in Death Note is simple as well. Some 16 year old finds a notebook (that belongs to a death god) that he can use to kill people by writing their names in it. He then starts getting some sort of god complex and wants to clean the world of criminals, etc. There is a bunch of additional rules for the usage of the notebook, but they aren't relevant in the beginning. Furthermore, it's just awesome to watch the characters later use loopholes in the rules that even the death gods themselves never thought of. But it's everything else than lighthearted. It's mostly a thriller, the fact that it's about death gods doesn't make it dark or anything.

Anyway, I can only recommend the series. It's your choice in the end. xD
