Title: Oh god, he's serious.
Post by: Spaceman McConaughey on August 25, 2011, 06:44:36 am
QuoteOh God no...

Majora's Mask was a great concept on its own, but let's not kid ourselves. As a "Legend of Zelda" game, it was only a minor side quest, not a full Zelda adventure. It certainly is not in the same league as OoT and doesn't deserve the same kind of treatment.

Majora's Mask 3D would mostly be a quick cash-in riding on OoT 3D's coattails. It wouldn't be being remade because it would be deserved, rather because it's already built on OoT's engine and would be easy to throw together. Basically, it would just be more milking of OoT's popularity which is damaging the integrity of the series.

If another Zelda is going to get remade, there are far more deserving (and sadly overlooked) games like A Link to the Past that should get to be instead.

ALttP re-imagined in a cel-shaded 3D environment would feel a lot more fresher than MM, which would just feel like OoT 3D 1.5.

Damn you, Audrey Drake, for encouraging this. What we REALLY need are contests and Facebook fan pages to campaign AGAINST this.

Anyone else with me on this?

Let me laugh even harder.

Is that guy being freakin' serious? MM was a good game, but sadly I played it when I was too young; I didn't like the pressure of the time limit. But I'd most definitely like to give it another try and even despite the fact I didn't like the time pressure (and was using walkthroughs all the time, like with all games >.>), I truly enjoyed the game.

If Majora's Mask were made in today's world it would have been a fun DLC and nothing more.

DLC is not a full-fledged game, which Is what MM is. In short, that post of yours makes no sense.

I thought we had decided that MM was hardly a full game?

I liked it actually, but I beat it once.

I've owned several copies of OoT on multiple systems because that game is really really epic.

Hold on, when did we decide that? Because I did not.

Also, I would like to point out that it being only fun as DLC and not a hard copy makes no sense. They would both be the same thing.

OoT might be better, but MM nevertheless is a great game.

There are others who like MM better than OoT. I shit you not. They both are great games, though-- although I like oot better, but meh. Fierce Deity Link. Yeah...

That can't be a big group. But ok, let me rephrase:
Most people like OoT better, but MM nevertheless is a great game.

I personally like OoT better, just because of the revolutionary 3D-ness of TLOZ, the memorable characters, the brilliantly designed dungeons and much more.

EDIT: Oh, and I'm not the type for the hundreds of side-quests you have to do to get FDL :). I've done them, but using a walkthrough.

I am pretty much on the boat of loving MM more than OoT.

OoT is overrated, and has literally no replay value for me after all of these years. It's boring.
The 3DS remake only managed to have me enjoy the game a little bit more, but now even that is boring.

Hmm... To me, MM has never really had any replay value until now.

Yeah, to you.

I am safely at a point in my life where I can say OoT sucks, for the sole reason of how boring it became, and the fact they missed a big chance to add new content to the remake.
But nope. Only new content was: updated graphics, 3D display, and motion control for the camera, and that poorly made boss rush mode(also Master Quest if you consider something that's been made years before new content). It irritates me, to say the least.

See, that new content, is not even something that changes the game in a major way.

You can't compare today's games with games that are over 10 years old and expect the same. During its time, OoT was a great and revolutionary game.
I personally like OoT and MM equally. Both have their own distinctive atmospheres composed of colors, graphic style and music. While OoT gives you a more epic feeling, finally exploring a 3D Zelda world, MM overwhelms with a dark atmosphere and that constant little itch that you have keep looking at the clock, even though you know you won't miss the moment to teleport back most probably.

What I liked about OoT most is the whole world around Link. There were so many revolutionary game design ideas such as the night-and-day system, enemy auto-targeting, one context sensitive button and so many more. The feeling when you battle the bosses who are several times as big as you are for the pretty much first time in 3D was an amazing experience. The dungeons were logical and cleverly designed as always in Zelda games. One of the things in OoT that probably nobody noticed is how much time you spend actually walking around, but it's not boring at all. I need up to 6 hours to get from the beginning of the game to the beginning of the second dungeon, that's how much there is to do before you even enter the Dodongo's Cavern. When you later travel through time and become adult Link, the fun doubles. Suddenly you can use more items, Link looks stronger and better. It gives you a feeling as if the game had just started, as if you are just at the beginning of your real journey.

MM has a lot of the good things from OoT, but there are also new things. One of these things is the dark atmosphere. Not only do you have the constant time pressure, but it feels real, because the time goes by very quickly. Additionally to that MM had a very convincing soundtrack that tones up the dark atmosphere even more. You would take on the forms of other beings using masks that trapped the spirits of those beings, that was kind of creepy and mysterious as well. There is simply something about masks that's creepy and mysterious at the same time, especially when they have unusual powers like they did in MM. Another thing I remember how I always would double check if I did everything before using the Song of Time to return to the beginning of the 3 days. Each time I hit the "Yes" choice, I had a sense of accomplishment and finish. It felt like "Yes, everything is done, now everything is saved as well." Then, when I saw the morning of the first day once again, I felt like I can try to cheat time again and do something else this time. If you ever wanted to go back in time and fix some mistake you made, MM gives you a weird feeling that you've actually done that. Yes, with MM you go back in time and fix mistakes.

Who compared games of old with games of today? You're coming off like I did.
If you are referring to me mentioning OoT's remake, then no, I did not compare. Just saying how it's now boring like the original, and by the way, they
are both the same exact game, basically.
So of course I am going to get bored with it fast after playing the original to death.

And just an FYI, OoT was not the first 3D game I've played(even when I first played it, I have NEVER played a 2D Zelda game beforehand), so I have had none of those special feelings you did. Even then, I am not going to let something like
that keep a game fun for me. You can design a revolutionary sex simulator, that comes close to real sex on the awesome scale, and eventually it would not get me
hard anymore due to how boring it would get(list of sex moves may get boring if not updated, ect.). That is the same with OoT: it got boring because it's all the same, and I played
it to death, and there's no new content for it to keep me hooked. It does not matter how revolutionary it was, at all. The only thing that will keep me hooked to OoT, is the URA project some ROM hackers are developing.

Now, on to MM: yes, it has a lot of good things from OoT, and also new things, like you said. But it manages to stay fun for me because it has way more content than OoT, and in
my life, I still have not completed it 100%(like I did OoT), which helps with its replay value. One day I may get bored of MM, but one thing's for sure, that's a loooong ways away. I played with OoT more than Dick Cheney did with his 11 year old Vietnamese prostitutes. And that's a lot. I did not do that with MM yet, and it's not even close to that point.

And as for the Water Temple: I'm sorry, it's just too easy. I do not get why people complain. Just like Master Quest is too easy.

I have bad news for you then: URA = Master Quest.

Also, I misunderstood that you said OoT was a boring game, not that it became boring for you after playing it so much. I have most likely played through OoT over 20 times in my life. Honestly, I wouldn't want to play it right now. I don't think I played through MM more than 5 times in comparison.
Yeah, as far as I heard, the 3DS version is just a graphic update. And yes, MM has more content. The locations have distinctive styles while the locations in OoT have a lot in common and a similar feel.

Lol at Water Temple, I was just messing with you. Yeah, it's not that hard when you know it. I did have my problems when playing the first time, but it was the same with every temple the first time (I was 11, mind you). IMO Master Quest was alright. It was harder than the original and you had to pay attention to what you are doing, because the dungeons were harder and more complicated. It was a challenge, but I can't say it was a difficult challenge.

Yeah, I guess it's quite different with people close to my generation as our primary consoles were the SNES and maybe PS1 for some so a jump to the N64 meant something while younger kids were already quite used to 3D graphics from the PS1.

You know, the only thing I'd like to play now would be a massive hack of MM. :3

Too bad, I liked you.
Majora's Mask had a storyline, innovative gameplay, fantastic graphics and a great engine (for the time). There is no way at all it could not be considered a full game. It was a follow-on to child Link's timeline from OoT, but it was set in a completely different place with new stuff and characters and it was an overall different game.
Majora's Mask not a full game? That's like calling COD MW 2 not a full game.

Blizzard, you do realise you believe in one of the biggest misconceptions that pertains to Zelda? I would appreciate it if you look up what URA really is. Nah, I'll tell you:

URA = Massive expansion pack that would feature new dungeons, new quests, updated graphics, and more, all thanks to the 64DD(N64 Disc Drive) addon that unfortunately did not do good even in Japan before Zelda URA was released. So the 64DD was discontinued, and Zelda URA cancelled. It Is a damn shame.

Master Quest = Cheap copy and paste job that aimed to make things more difficult, which added literally no new content at all, unless you consider extra enemies and reworked dungeons new content. It is NOTHING like URA was going to be, and I would have expected you out of anyone to know, or at least google before spouting nonsense such as that.

Yes, I am irritated a tiny bit. Because when people say MQ is URA, it means they did not do the proper research prior to saying such. No sex tonight.

Actually you are not that right with Ura either. Literally the first link on Google when you type in "Ura Zelda": http://zelda.wikia.com/wiki/Ura_Zelda

QuoteEventually, due to repeated delays in production and development, Ura Zelda's release as a 64DD add-on was scrapped, even as the game was finishing production. As a result, there is no 64DD version of this game available to the general public. Due to public demand for the completed game however, parts of Ura Zelda were released on the Nintendo GameCube as The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest on a bonus disc for those who pre-ordered The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. The game was not truly ported in the technical sense but merely running under emulation, so there were some noticeable inaccuracies in the presentation of both Ocarina of Time and Master Quest as they appeared on this disc.

However, whether Master Quest is actually the end result of the Ura Zelda project or merely a quick level-edit to quiet demands and entice preorders is a matter of debate among fans. One significant piece of evidence against it being Ura Zelda is that ROM rips of the game show the game to be the same number of megabits in size as a standard Ocarina of Time ROM, whereas the original concept was to include content above and beyond what an N64 cartridge could possibly hold. It also did not contain any of the promised additional enemies. Furthermore, if one looks into the compiled versions of both Master Quest and the original Ocarina of Time, all 64DD reference has been removed from Master Quest. However, there is an N64 ROM of Master Quest playable on emulators.

There is not definite answer and both seems both likely that Master Quest probably is part Ura and that Master Quest has not connection with Ura whatsoever. I'd appreciate if you did some research yourself next time before boasting big words about how you know so much and how you are so right. The last time I research that subject, I actually found a lot of sources saying that Master Quest is a stripped down Ura. If you read the whole article, there is also Zelda Gaiden mentioned that was eventually made into Majora's Mask so it's likely that pieces of Ura ended up there as well (such as the internal clock and events influenced by time depending on what you did the days before that). In an interview Miyamoto actually said that Ura would be an expansion with additional quests and reshuffled dungeons as well. Master Quest had reshuffled dungeons, do I wouldn't be surprised if the design was taken from the ones intended for Ura.
We will never know.

Some other sources mention that Ura was actually OoT, but with lots of additional features. Some would be a realtime day-and-night system, stuff like if you cut a tree, it would stay cut within that savegame, people getting pissed at you if you attack them, etc. If you use a cheat console, you will noticed that lots of the beta is still inside (including a yellow, a black and a white tunic) and I wouldn't be surprised it those were leftovers from Ura that nobody bothered to remove because it would just fit all into the current catridge without problems.
Again, we will never know.

Blizzard, I am not going to trust a wiki that I can just as easily go and edit myself.

I did my research, Blizzard. And I know that Master Quest has little to nothing to do with URA.
And I am not boasting big words, I am telling you what URA is. Whether you want to believe me or not, I do not give two minuscule fucks.

URA is OoT, with plenty of extra content and features(this has been established a while ago) It is not Master Quest. I just thought it would be a widely known fact by now, is all.
Also, the yellow black and white tunics are not leftover. All they are is different colors achieved with gameshark codes, just like the tons of other color codes people made. (http://www.hotcheats.com/legendofzeldatuniccolorgamesharkcheatsnintendo64.html)
There is not a thing leftover about those tunics. Besides, in websites devoted to this stuff I go to, it is a well established fact what URA is(hint: what I am trying to tell you it is, but you refuse to believe it). Anywho, believe what you want to. I do not care if you refuse to believe the correct information and go with the wrong.

I like to base my knowledge at least on stuff that developers actually said, reflected in public texts like Wikipedia, backed up by references.

QuoteUra Zelda was eventually released on the Nintendo GameCube as Ocarina of Time Master Quest. However, this version was not the original release, as the N64DD version did more than just change the dungeons; Ura Zelda also made the game longer, added dungeons, items, attacks and magic spells; altogether expanding the game. Players could also create custom masks using Mario Artist: Talent Studio and Game Boy Camera that Link could wear.

http://zelda.neoseeker.com/wiki/Master_Quest Ok, no actual reference here.

QuoteOcarina of Time was re-released for the Nintendo GameCube in the Ocarina of Time Master Quest and The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition compilation discs as an emulated ROM.[59] Ocarina of Time Master Quest started as an expansion to Ocarina of Time to be used with the Nintendo 64DD under the working title Ura Zelda ("Another Zelda").

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Ocarina_of_Time You have a bunch of references at the bottom.

QuoteThe second -- called "Ura-Zelda" in Japan, has been dubbed Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest. This version is nearly identical to the N64 adventure except that some dungeons that Link manipulates have been "remixed" so that puzzles function differently, in effect creating a slightly different version of the game.

http://cube.ign.com/articles/379/379346p1.html Just news.

QuoteIGN64: Tell us about "Ura Zelda."

Miyamoto: Ura Zelda is based on The Ocarina of Time for 64DD. It has the same construction of gameplay. It's very much a parody game based on Ocarina of time, but with new dungeons to explore. It even features the same storyline.

http://www.miyamotoshrine.com/theman/interviews/082799.shtml Interview doesn't need reference.

QuoteQ: The Zelda bonus disc has been a real success for you. Do you think you might ever do that for another game, something like F-Zero perhaps?
Shigeru Miyamoto: The Zelda presale was actually kind of a unique case in the sense that we had gone through the trouble of developing Master Quest/Ura Zelda in Japan and we ultimately never released it primarily because the contents of the game had not changed enough from Ocarina of Time to provide enough value in the product. But the people who worked on it really wanted to get the game out there and we did too, and we actually looked at many possible ways to do that including tying up with magazines trying to sell it with magazines. But ultimately we never really found a way of providing that game to the consumer.

http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=181733 Interview doesn't need reference.

But hey, you can be stubborn as much as you want. After all, even when Miyamoto himself refers to Ura and Master Quest as the same thing, it must've just been somebody who edited the text. It can't possibly be that they took the rearranged dungeons (with cows in the walls of Jabu Jabu, mind you, which I find very parodic and where Miyamoto was calling Ura a "parody") intended for Ura and put them into Master Quest. No way. Never. At all.

EDIT: Let me add this piece of text from the first link as well.

QuoteMaster Quest contains exactly the same storyline as the original, but includes altered dungeon layouts and more numerous enemies. The alterations concerning the dungeon maps contain slightly different room layouts (items are placed in different locations, and puzzles have to be solved in another manner). In many cases, knowledge of the original game can be a hindrance rather than a help, and trying to solve puzzles the way they are done in the original leads only to a trap, or a meager prize of no more than five Rupees. The game was originally developed as a 64DD add-on disc for the Nintendo 64 version of Ocarina of Time, code-named Ura Zelda.

It's really too bad they don't have any proper references there. I would like to know where exactly they got their information from.

What I am saying, is that what Master Quest IS, is not what URA was supposed to BE.

What part, about that, DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?

URA, how it was originally intended, was going to be more than just slightly edited dungeons. Why, is this so hard to understand?

You know what, fuck you. I'm done with this. Fuck off, I'm done here in this topic, and with this site as a whole. Fuck off.

FYI: I'm not unsure this time, I'm really done. I am putting my account up for deletion, and I expect it deleted.
I am not in a remotely bad mood, just irritated. Nothing is clouding my judgment at all. I am done with this place. Good riddens!
