Title: Strange RPG Maker Issues
Post by: Boba Fett Link on September 27, 2011, 07:44:08 pm
My brother is having a lot of problems with RPG Maker XP. First, you would randomly die in battle when no enemy was attacking or it wasn't the enemies turn, but only while facing certain enemies. Then, in a different game file, using BABS, his passibility on the maps is messed up. He can go anywhere. This isn't the cause of using blank tiles other than the default one in the top left corner of the tileset that have a priority of 0 (an issue I've had before), I checked that. Now his attacks don't work. He can't damage enemies, but enemies can damage him. No numbers appear on the enemy unless the weapon is set to 0 attack. I checked over it and don't see anything wrong. It also won't change transparent colors on some tilesets he is importing.

He has his files on a flash drive, but I have mine on a different flash drive and they work fine.

I am completely stumped. Any ideas?

The passability issue is one I have been plagued with for a very long time. Still no fix. *sighs*

Do you think that it could be the flash-drive?  I have scanned the flash-drive with McAfee, and it came up with nothing.

My brother started a new game on the desktop instead of the flashdrive. It was working great until today when he had a bunch of odd glitches:

1: His first weapon stopped doing damage. Not even 'Miss' or '0' would flash up when he hit an enemy. However, a second weapon would work.
2: His second weapon stopped working a few minutes later.
3: Later, if he attacked beside a unpassable tile, he would slide through it.

All of these are problems he had with other projects. The only thing he carried over from the other games is some resources. He said he didn't change anything between each glitch.

Every project he has started in RMXP has had odd glitches, even without BABS. He has now decided to stop using RMXP. I, on the other hand, am using the same computer but have had none of these glitches. I'm a little worried that these problems will now carry over to my game.

Any ideas?

Have you tried my Quick Passability Test in Tons of Add-ons? It might help you discover bugs in your passability map setup.

As for the rest, it's not the first time that I heard RMXP behaving weird. Usually it only manifests on some computers. It works fine on most of them.

I don't see how these glitches occur without Blizz-ABS. On top of which, glitches like that can't carry over to projects unless scripts were modified. He's obviously doing something you don't know of.

He said he had the passibility issue on a game he started without BABS. Also, in that game he used the default battle system. When fighting certain enemies, all his characters would randomly get a gameover even when the enemies had no attacks or skills.

Again, thats because he altered with the scripts or he's using altered versions of the scripts. That doesn't just happen with no modifications at all. As for the passability, its probably a tileset issue. He has to be using some sort of bugged version of the battle system if thats happening.

I'll bet that he is using the Control key as an attack button
