So I was looking at the "Dark Space" tileset and observed a Floating Island set of tiles. Then I got to thinking that it would be kind of cool have a Floating Island move back and forth between two places, where the Player or another Event could walk on to that Floating Moving Island, walk around on it but be stuck on it, and be able to move off of the island when it is adjacent to a set of passable tiles.
Anyone have an idea on how to script in an effect to pull this kind of effect off? Or if it has been done already?
Edit: XP
So pretty much moving platforms, correct? Unnecessarily complicated title lol.
Yeah, pretty much.
I recall seeing something like this done before in an RMXP game. I can't remember where though. It was probably from some CBS like XAS. But those were just one tile platforms--I have never seen islands.
Can't really think of how you could pull that off easily, especially with RMXP's tile-based movement. If we were talking pixels, it'd probably be easier to pull off.
One option might be to create a characterset of the character on top of the island, with the island as part of the sprite. When the character walks onto the island, change it to that, and then move it as you would any other graphic (or allow the player to move it, or whatever your plan might be.)
If you'd like the island to move independently before the player gets on it, just create a characterset of the island itself, and move it as any other characterset.
This might be a little bit sloppy, but it would at least get the job done. If you wanted to make it look a little nicer, you could create additional character graphics for the player "boarding" the island, and so on.
This way, it could all be evented, so you wouldn't need any new scripts. :)
Im thinking scripts only over a mapping technique.
Goal: Make a Terrain Event move around, and put "\platform" in the name.
Player or Event (NPC) walks onto a Moving Platform, and they can move around on the platform and control normally in relation to the moving platform. No other Events other than the Moving Platform itself that the Player / NPC is standing on.
Ha ha! Check this out!
