Just an idea for the long run, a full character creator, either layering multiple images to make the characters body, face and hair or a selection of lots of pre-made images. When the scene is called it brings up a menu where you click left and right arrows to change body, face and hair styles and colors, then clicking ok makes that your main character.

In-game won't be hard at all, at least the basic functionality. Good idea MLink, I'll do this when I have the time *adds to task list*

Lots of pre-made images is a bad idea, but layering is pretty easy. The only thing that's hard is to take care of the compatibility. Actor graphic names are saved in the data files. Instead, there should be a new class or module which should store the pictures for each layer and create the final pic when the game loads (kinda like the PSDs for photoshop). Very interesting...

I think s/he meant lots of premade images for each part of the character... otherwise there would be no images to layer into the final graphic.
That would be sweetness. It would be KIND OF like a Visual Equipment script, but how you look, not what you wear. Gotta be careful with compatability... Hmm :). If you need help with the images, pm me. In fact, I'd really like to help with this. It'll be sweet.
the real trick to this is deciding how much customization you want, because each custom body part needs an image layer to itself.
So, I suggest a layer for Face, Hair, Boots/legs, left arm, right arm, body, hat, cape, and a layer for whatever else that doresn't fit intoa that...
from top to bottom the list should be like this ideally:
Hat
Accessory
Hair
Face
Arm
Arm
Boots
Body
with a variable positioning for the cape depending on player direction.
so, does anyone want me to make those imgs? It'd be pretty sweet, and I wouldn't mind

firefox says the source file cannot be read, chrome says the file cannot be found and my download manager says the same line i wrote, data cannot be resolved...
