Title: It Was

It Was.

Existence Remembered.

Rechronicle.

it was an ordinary day, then, and his laugh was as always. mirthful, happy, light. not in the least way mad. "so you figured this year I'd win? well, a lot did at that." the blade contest. every village had one, every year, on this day. but I wondered why I had to have it happen then.

the two were facing off, parrying blows, weaving a pattern of skillful slashes, cuts, and stabs.

it wasn't often, that it happened like that. for a time, the two went at eachother with more grace with a blade than any two competitors before, seeming to concentrate less on their hand and s tance, and more on the crowd-pleasing dance. not that their skill faltered, it was if a rhythm descended over them, and they never wanted to break free.

I'd saw it. their eyes were closed during that duration.

then a loud clang interrupted their serenity, as the two blades, swung harder than each thought, collided on the edges of their blades.

both stood confused for a half moment, before I could no longer watch them any longer.

a parry turned into a terrible slash, which was turned away and countered with a stab, that was, in turn, sidestepped, knocked away, and thrown back as a slash, again a successful parry morphed that into another move, neither gaining an edge, both on attack, both on the defense.

neither giving an inch.

the two were literally dancing, now. dancing, the blades clashing at moments, everything moving to a rhythm neither knew, a rhythm nobody would figure out. a perfect synchrony.

and it was shattered.

"ah, that was a good match" and his laugh ended the fight, as he collapsed.

I walked with the rest of the people, he had lost, his foe's blade lodged in his left arm. oh, he'll live. I promise you.

but my response was terrible.

I look up, now, when I notice that nothing around is as it was. blackness encompassed everything, and his ever-happy laugh echoed, twisted, insane.

"hehe hahahahaha, hahaha." it repeated.

as if to exemplify the burning passion with which the cursed deadness had lived, a blade of flames emitting nothing but the semblance of fire was welded in his hands.

and to show what I must do, I held nothing.

There has to be something analytical about this gem of reading. I have no idea what considering I didn't feel like analyzing as my brain simply shut down because of the upcoming weekend, but who knows. I simply loved the Blade Fight though and it's such a shame no one has taken a read of this yet. Yet. :P

Nice read.
