(http://img6.imageshack.us/img6/2947/design5.png) <--- Major Work in Progress, First custom sprite <3
New Sprite ^^
Well Right Base
So far it's in stage 5 out of 20... (It's how I sprite)
It's really messy all out, and doesn't look like an aura or he's on fire at all...It looks more like a blood splatter or something of that sort. o_o
The trick is not to use so much deep red like you did there, and more orange-yellow like colors. Doing a Google Image Search of Fire (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=fire&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2) would show it's not a pure red, as right there. I don't know what else to say though...'Luck to you, find fiery-references for help. :)
It's actually going to end up being green, I just made the red in about 20 mins to see what yall would think about it, let me recolor it and put up another one.
Ah, fire shading. That is annoying to do.
I did a sprite who was emanating flames, here is a link to it. Just zoom in on each frame and see how I did it. That's the easiest way to learn to do it
http://celenath.com/DR/Screenies/Nethera.gif
It is!
That sprite is amazing, is it okay if I use the pallet for the flames?
sure, I jacked that pallet and recolored it from the flame elemental in the RTP. Glad you like the sprite, it took forever (I think there's a reason people use automated particle engines, XD)
Final Version of the Sprite

*Updates first post*
Just have to do poses for the character and finish the animation.
Tell me what you think. :^_^':
I think it's good, wish I could sprite XD, then again I've never tried.
Thanks :)
Spriting is hard... The flames took like 4 hours to complete.
But this is also my first time at spriting too...
Well actually completing something I try to sprite... :^_^':
If you want to try spriting I suggest starting out with This Tutorial (http://forum.chaos-project.com/index.php?topic=1025.0).
It's a really good and basic tutorial on shading.
Hope that's not advertising or anything...
*Update*
Added Cassandra's Base for transformation and base for flame punch skill.
I'm thinking about adding an idle stance for Cassandra with her hand flaming, is that a good idea or no?
I'm not going to question the hair color change. Let's cut it to the chase, shall we?
These flames work pretty well. I think I would like to see an animating version if I can to see how interesting it'll end up as. I bet ingame it'll look extremely fine...Unlike over here on a forum...That's probably my concern. I would also like to see the Flame Punch in action. I'm sure they would be really awesome in the end if so. The first flames remind me of those kids' tattoos or drawings of flames...But...I suppose all flames are like that and the naturalness is always apparent. Bah, I'm rambling.
Long story short, awesome work.
Thanks :)
The hair changing and the outfit changing is when your in the chaos rage form. Makes you stronger, faster, and cooler looking :O.o:
But I'm still working on the flame punch skill, I'll see if I can finish it tonight and make an animated version to post up but I'm not sure yet.
Cool I made an event during battle that once the guage was enough and the character had a special item then he could transform into something however I don't have the side battler sprite for it. Lookin awesome so far =P Reminds me of Kaiser Dragon form in Breath of Fire 3 where if triggered succesfully, Ryu's hair would go golden and suff.
This thread turned into like...a showoff the power thread, Lol...All that flaring energy!!
I actually wanted to know how I could improve them but yeah... XD
It would be easier to give you feedback if the sprites didn't animate so fast x_x
I know :(
I just can't find a good "free" program to make animations with, let me download Fireworks Trial and make one with that so I can change individual frames to different times

Little off-topic but, when I used to create gifs, and believe me I was creating a lot, I used Game Maker to import images and export them as gifs, then loop them in MS Gif Animator...Wait. Pay no mind to that, I just used Game Maker to create the frames. :xD:
MS Gif Animator has the ability to change how long a frame lasts...
It was one of the first downloads I ever made when going on the Internet.
Here's a link.

Wow, looks really good :)
Thanks Star!
*Powers Up*
The base look beautiful for Cassandra...
The Hawke pictures are missing right now, so I can't give you criticism there...
The only tips that I have for Cassandra is that you change the pose of the punch itself. I hate to say it, but if you want it to look "real," you should start from scratch...Nobody punches like that. In real life, a person pulls back before unleashing a blow. Your sprite just brings the hand forward...
The spriting is well done, but the animation itself in un-realistic...
Here is an example of what I mean...
Do you see how I made him pull back 1st!?
Really? I see Hawke fine..
Good point on Cassandra... It was my first posing and action sprite so yeah... But thanks :)
I'll make it like the one you posted, later... Too tired now... :uhm:
Yeah, I see him now too... :p
I'm not saying you should re-do Cassandra, I'm just saying for future reference...the sprite looks nice, it's just irregular.
Well I was thinking about redoing it before you even mentioned it lol
I kinda made her punch with her left hand instead of right not paying attention :shy:
I guess that doesn't really matter, Lol...
Why does she "have" to be right-handed?? She can be a lefty, Lol =)
Well yeah but I started working on her weapon and it's on her right hand :P
...now THAT DOES pose a problem, Lmao XD
Lol yeah.
Is it a bad idea to just have her hand flaming all the time and have an idle animation?
Just when she is in her chaos form...
How could you have an idle animation??
I have been wondering about that for some time...
There aren't any scripts for that...
ANSWER:
I would say that it actually wouldn't be a bad idea if you wanted to have her hand flaming all the time if she is in her chaos form, but it would be hard, because I haven't found a way to have animated sprites when you aren't moving them...
It's a feature in Blizz-ABS
(http://img297.imageshack.us/img297/6647/blizzabslk9.png)
I haven't tried it out yet though.
Aww...
Do you think you could create an "Add-On" that would allow for animated idle sprites for me??
I could see if I could extract it from Blizz-ABS, which might be hard
But your best bet would be to PM Blizzard and asking for it or requesting a script
I would hate to do that though...
I will just post up a script request in general...
Thanks anyway Landith =)
Actually, I could probably make it in like 5 mins if I could find out how to stop animation the player and change the character set by script
Thank you and good luck...
I created a request in the script requests section.
If you would take this conversation there as to keep on topic...Thanks Landith =)
Alright. :^_^':
Anyone else have anything to say about Hawke or Cassandra?
I might have another one up tomorrow night, depends on what I'm doing...
You should...
Are you going to upload a modified Cassandra with the new pose?
Yeah, once I get started on it. I've been working on my mage. Well recoloring the mage and doing poses for weapons :^_^':
Oh yeah! 100 posts
nice...you should post them too.
I'll get it done as soon as I get done with my friends custom sprite...
Which he wants for some reason because he doesn't even do game making??
I should be working on it Tomorrow
I'm looking forward to it!!
Alright.
So... I came up with an idea...
For different classes, the transforming phase is different.
Like for Mages their transforming phase would be an aura that differs from what they specialize in and for Mystic Knights it would be flame...
I need some suggestions, or ideas on what I could do differently for different things so it's not all the same.
Also, during different parts of the game, magic kinda seeps out of the user, what would be the best way to show that? Like fire or an aura or ice, etc...
Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)
For the seeping magic, I would use a smoke...
A very thin smoke that rises from the shoulders and fades the further from the character it gets...
What are ALL of the classes that you are using??
Mystic Knight (Which I have all I need to know for it)
Paladin
Guardian
Priest
Summoner
Beserker
Acrolyte
Geomancer
Black Mage (Uses Dark type of spells)
White Mage (Uses Healing/Light Spells)
Bombardier
That's all... I know it's a lot but I don't like to have more than one class for a character unless they are unique... Like Hawke and Cassandra...
Wow...this will take some time, Lol...you want them all to be different??
Yupp :^_^':
I'm thinking for White mage/paladin/priest I'm doing a yellow aura and a few different things like stars for the priest.
And summoner and Beserker are going to actually transform into something.
And Black Mage is going to be clouded by darkness and transform that way, about 6-8 frames though...
But I need help with the rest...
The geomancer could have pebbles raise all around him...
What is a bombardier and an acrolyte??

What is a bombardier and an acrolyte??
Bombardier is like some master gunner/cannon-man. They bombard things with ammunition. At least that's my definition.
An acolyte's a type of priest or mage. They're usually spiritual and religious-based.
For the former maybe you can them to "wheelie" their equipment and go bonkers. :P And for acolyte, some magic circle appears with some deity like spirit coming out. Though that might be complex.
I could have the acolyte change into something else while playing an animation like a spirit coming through and he/she can turn into a demon or a ghost or something along that line.
I could have the Bombardier change into something while an animation of an explosion...
The Geomancer with pebbles is a good idea :)
Well you really don't have to have the bombardier transform, Lol...you could have like pistols circle him while they spin and shit...Bullets and stuff too...
That would be so cool...
It would take forever to sprite though and I would need a plug-in to make the bullets go out in all 8 directions but it would be worth it.
Maybe... I shouldn't have everyone transform just the Mystic Knights and the Berserker and have a really powerful skill when their meter goes up.
Yeah I like that better :)
Why would you need a plug-in??
For a skill that shoots all around you, for the Bombardier.
I would also like to do the same for the Mystic Knight but go around the enemy while slashing it with a sword :)
Oh, so these animations are attacks!?
Well skills actually but yea :^_^':
It might take a while to sprite though...
I thought that they were just animations to show power, Lol...I didn't know that they were skills :^_^':
Well a few to show power but the other ones are going to be skills
Well this will still be cool
*Update*
My first Custom Sprite work in progress. This dark like creature that I'm going to use as an enemy in Breakdown. So far it's just the basic design, it will go through a lot of changes, mainly in the back and the front before I'm even done with the side base. I know most people go about with a front base first but I'm trying it out with a side base first.
UPDATE 2:
Updated the sprite majorly. :)
Its the sprite in the first post, right?
Okay, first your shading technique is very messy making the sprite not clear at all. To me, it looks like a bird with backward claws, and wings. o.O
You have to define its anatomy, give it some muscle structure.
Your palette needs major work, I'm not even sure there is a proper palette in there.
Don't limit yourself to one color, add related colors that work together to make it stand out.
Lol you should of seen it's first structure, that was a mess.
But yes, the pallette will change to match a dark RTP creature, this was just kinda like an outline of it.
The shading was done in about 30 minutes so will also be improved as I go.
Thanks for the criticism :)
