Well I got a friend's recovery cd that has XP on it instead of Vista. Its for my laptop for both of our laptops are toshiba just his is XP and mines Vista. I wanted to install xp is it safe? Will it make my computer crash or not work? Is it even possible will it even work?
Please help and thanks in advance. :)
So let me get this straight, you are asking if it's all right to install the XP Operating System on a Vista Computer through the Recovery CD Kit?
Well, I'm not sure what will happen. But for sure, don't try and wipe everything off your computer. Having dual OSes that aren't Linux can get pretty risky if you're not sure what you're doing. I found an article about it, but if you're wanting to do so, good luck.

From the sounds of it it sounds like it might work. I'll still have vista but I'll also have XP as well. I'm not going to try it yet. Maybe try it on a school computer first. Yes that's what I'll do.
Yes my school has vista computers but they also have very poor security.
Hopefully no one catches you and the settings are very similar to yours. I remember the computers back at my Middle School always deleted the data before shutting down or logging out. That's why some of the kids just stuck the laptop on the charger. But of course, it's different for you, but alas, good luck, don't get caught, and see if it works.
I shant get caught! All I have to do is tell my mom I'm staying after school to do some computer work and have her pick me up at 4:30. That way I get a chance with out getting cuaght. I'll be like a ninja :ninja:
I suggest you don't do it. Recovery CD works like this: There is a hidden partition with a fresh OS intallation. Using the recovery CD will replace your OS with the one on the hidden partition. That means that an XP recovery CD can only do damage trying to recover a Vista system. You can install another OS though and delete the hidden partition. But this will most likely turn your guarantee void.
Recovery discs... I hate HP for it's inconsistent recovery software. I made not 1, not 2, 3 copies of recovery discs. The first 2 times, one disc was writen and the process failed half way towards the second disc. The third time, the writing went well but "disc verification failed"...
I installed XP on my laptop. Later, when I tried to use the recovery discs, everything went crazy. I had to format my laptop FIVE TIMES that day... five times... I hate HP <_<
i would advise you back up your current system to, so if it does go wrong you could wipe your system clean then restore it back to its original self
Did that already, this was long ago.
Well I haven't tried it yet. Forgot disc several times. And from what the guide said I'll be able to Dual Boot the two systems. No matter what XP disc I have. So I'll try it tomorrow if I remeber the disc.
Complete failure I screwed up the computer like bad >.> I hope I dont get into trouble. Not my computer hte schools. It turns on a blank black screen comes up and thats all.

you should have listened to Blizz.
I'm going to be attempting a similar project in March. Though mine will be installing OSX on a partition on my harddrive, then erasing my Vista partition, then re-installing Vista clean on a smaller partition
so sick of Vista I'm willing to run a Hackintosh. I miss my old Macbook and I'm so tired of Vista being a shitfest.
well at least it wasnt my computer. And yea I know blizz was right but I wanted to see what would happen. All is good though the computer is getting repaired. No one knows I was a ninja :ninja:
game_guy, consider that there were ninjas :ninja: watching you. The ninjas watch the ninja.
In any case, hope the computer doesn't explode gets repaired.
I am so a not being watched by ninjas or am I? *looks every including the disc tray of his computer*
