Title: Need a fun FREE MMO
Post by: G_G on February 11, 2009, 10:44:11 pm
I need a fun free mmo that wastes time and makes it go fast. Not cabal I've tried it and its almost exactly like 2moons.

Here's the ones I've played.

Bots - http://bots.acclaim.com
2Moons - http://2moons.acclaim.com
Runescape - http://runescape.com
Gunz - Dont Have website right now

I've played WoW and its pretty fun but costs money.

I've played a few others. Maybe post a few mmo's I can try out or something.

Flyff (Fly for Fun) is a pretty good one that I used to play.  It is a little slow, but once you hit level 20, you can fly, which is pretty awesome.  check it out.

not an MMO

I'm a big advocate for Guild Wars.
Free as in No monthly fee, so buying it costs as much as a standard game *shrugs*

So I'm recycling this topic because I don't have any games to play right now D: I don't really care if it's an mmo, I just need something decent to play. I'm dying of boredom here >8U

I've already played LastChaos, SilkRoad, FlyFF, HeroOnline, Guildwars, all the ijji stuff, most of the aeria games stuff, CAL Online, MU online, Perfect World, and a couple more I can't remember.

I'm content with strategy games too! No text-based stuff though. Not right now atleast :P Oh and no First-Person Shooters! I've had enough of them ._. I'm meh to 3rd person shooters though.

Maple Story is fun at first, but the experience levels get too extreme. It just turns into the ultimate patience test, where you grind grind grind, wanting to level up so badly. It's like one big chore. And the good items are the Nexon stuff or the expensive Free Market items...*sigh*

Well, if you like Strategy/Third-Person Shooter, you should try out Red Alert: A Path Beyond. Veeeeeerrrrry fun once you get good at it (the only reason that its not fun until then is because you get shot too much; after that, its perfect fun)

Mabinogi is my fix right now.  I stopped playing Maple when my friends did, the grind was annoying and you're prone to drama.

If you're looking for something different, then a couple I can recommend would be either Mabinogi (another Nexon game) or Perfect World (Aqua and I were addicted to this for a while, I currently don't play).

If you decide on Mabi, I play on the Tarlach server under the username Altera.

No, it's alright.

I know a collegue who played Perfect World and he was addicted. At least that's what he said. But after not playing for 5 days, he stopped. He got sick of the game. I wonder if this is enough to make somebody stop playing...

If you have a Gaia Online account, you can play "zOMG!" there. There's no weapons, but you fight with rings equiped to hotkeys. It was released not too long ago and it's just a beta, so it doesn't have many things on it yet. It's pretty fun, though.

To easy target a monster on Mabi, hold CTRL, this'll cause a ring to appear with a line leading to your cursor.

To easy pickup items and also see a monster's rank compared to your ass, hold ALT

If you need further help, ask your spirit weapon (Eiry)

Don't play WoW. D: It'll eat away your time. You can kiss RMXP and all your games goodbye. You might even lose your gf. I know people who had their partner break up with them because they spent more time playing WoW than playing with them. Worst case scenario you will lose all your remaining friends as well and desocialize. And WoW is not that great anyway. When those people ask you again, just tell them to stop wasting time talking to you and go back playing WoW. xD

Don't play WoW. D:

Title: Re: Need a fun FREE MMO
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on April 06, 2009, 06:10:22 pm
Really, the whole MMORPG term has quite evolved into something.

An MMO really needs to have its online system be a main component of the game. If it isn't, it can just be online. Brawl isn't really an MMO. Besides, MMO is shortened from MMORPG, so technically it would have to be an RPG to go into the dictionary.

But I can't really say that...A more appropriate happy all-around term would be Online Game or something. That's what Halo 3 can be.
Title: Re: Need a fun FREE MMO
Post by: Blizzard on April 06, 2009, 06:14:15 pm
What SRK said. MMO is short for MMORPG which is short for Massive Multiplayer Online RPG. Online games in general, that's what Halo 3 belongs to.

Susys mentioned that Crossfire or whatever game.
it's a watered down, free version of Counter Strike, essentially.

for $19.99 you can get CS:S on steam for free, and play that.  It's much better, and there's probably a lot more people playing it.

Honestly, I might actually play WoW if it didn't require downloading 2gb patches every time you re-install it God. Why do people put up with that? I mean, if I feel like playing my game, I want to _now_, not whenever the crap I have a non-essential patch installed.

Other than that -- it's okay.

becouse it really dosent take  that long, you have 3cds
   Original
   TBC
   WotLK

then you have to download a 2gb patch it takes 3hours. to do it all, and you dont even have to be their just go out goto the bar or something, alot of people that play wow have a life.

ok... so whats stopping you? theirs a patch once a month and theirs only gonna be a big patch when something big comes out, usually they save all the little stuff and bug fixes till then and they only should take a few mins to downlaod iand install the patch. and when theirs a new patch you should just gget exited! "yay new boss"

but yeah i can see where your coming from, the main reason why i get so agrivaded with wow is becouse of how big it is.

I can see where he's coming from too.
The games take a long time to install, then another 3 hours (if you have halfway decent internet) for patching.  It is rather annoying, but unavoidable.

Personally, that's one of the things I like about GW.  You download the resources you need in order to play in the areas you're visiting, so the install takes a very short amount of time.  Just for the first little while that you're playing, you have to wait for maps and textures to download.  Once that's done? you're set.

edit:
in fact, that's exactly why I haven't gone back to FFXI yet.
huuuuuuuge install time, and then patch. lol

lol, yeah well when i lived with my dad, fast internet i downlaoded most patches in a hour or so. to install the whole game and be ready to play WotLK, it took 2hours... but not everyone has a $500 router...

lol, yeah well when i lived with my dad, fast internet i downlaoded most patches in a hour or so. to install the whole game and be ready to play WotLK, it took 2hours... but not everyone has a $500 router...

router doesn't significantly effect internet speed.

Wow, so you have internet that goes at over 100mbps? Amazing. I thought you couldn't spend $19.99 on a game.

And dear lord, I've installed FFXI twice. The first time it took almost 24 hours.

a router can only give you internet as fast as your connection.

a faster router does not increase your connection speed to any noticeable degree.  You have fast web, the router doesn't matter enough to make a difference.

Routers effect how quickly multiple computers can simultaneously utilize the internet, a better router makes that easier, that's all they are for.

oh, then my dad also has a fast internet connection? i duno all i know is everythign downloaded fast.
Title: Re: Need a fun FREE MMO
Post by: fugibo on April 12, 2009, 12:50:53 pm
A cheap router can easily give you 100mb/s. That's enough to download an entire WoW patch in 30 seconds -- that is, if you have a connection as fast as or faster than that. So even if you have Internet so fast your router would limit you unless you forked out some dough, it would take you far less than an hour for a patch.

Anyway,
games with DL sizes over, say, 200mb SUCK. I'm willing to go to there for a patch, since I have 256k, but no further.

Yeah, thought so. 1.9 mb/s isn't gonna be pushing any router too hard, unless you have a few dozen people downloading WoW and all its patches simultaneously while in 15 irc chatrooms each.

...that could be a bit of a hyperbole.

yeah, I installed everything (thanks to a friend who has WotLK), so I'm pretty well set...now I just need to go out and get the main game (I have a copy of BC that's unused)...

Going back on topic...I should bring up that MMO doesn't really even limit you to just MMORPGs anymore, there are games classified.  I think Atlantica is classified as an MMORTS.

The second WoW got dragged into this...

If you want some free stuff, aeria games, nTreev, and Nexon all have some decent stuff, they all provide a nice variety.  There's also going to be a beta on Nexon soon for Dungeons & Fighters, + the return of Kart Rider

Anyone who remembers Kart Rider beta knew the game was not only heavily bugged, but many of us found the Free NX Exploit.  The beta was in horrible condition and has taken a LONG time to bugfix.  Rather than do it like they did in Mabinogi (fixing it along the way), Nexon decided to take it off the site for a while to finish the project up (a LOT of translation was left to be done, any of us who played the Chinese version know this to be true, as the full Kart Rider is HUGE).

Atleast that's the reason I heard of, I dunno if there was ever such an exploit, but I remember there were a lot of bugs and glitches, plus a LOT of missing content.

I'm gonna make an MMORPG one day that won't be limited. Think RTS, but in first person, with a fantasy setting, 2D graphics, and story elements.

For more information on what elements I'm bringing in, play Red Alert: A Path Beyond, then expand one of those maps into an entire game world and improve the controls.

You know, imo all of those things about requiem sounds like downsides :P
Move to get more evasion is unnecessary, as long as you have to face your target to hit him, he will still be able to run behind you, or away from you. Also, it sounds like it could be pretty broken if the evasion bonus isn't limited. The reinforce system, instead of crafting system will actually create less diversity, because everyone would(should) just find out which is best for their class/role(tank, healer, dps) and go for it. Also, it weakens the player economy. Point 3 makes it sound like there is only 1 talent tree, while in wow there is 3. Also hybrid builds could be pretty powerful. For example "Shockadin" for those of you who knows what that is.

But in WoW, noone is unique after a while.

There is ofcourse a limit to how unique you can be in any game.. however in wow you can be pretty unique, because of all the variation within the classes. Paladins have 3 very different talent trees, and 4 different specs that all are very viable and require different gear. The new death knight class have 6 different specs and some of them require different gear.
Althought, because how hardcore raiding envoirments in wow is, two priests that specs for healing are both going to want the same gear, because that gear is the gear that offers the best healing bonuses.

Claiming that there is no variation in world of warcraft is like claiming there is no variation in the colors in the rainbow.

Ok Ok, I literally burst out laughing here.
Because the crafting system in WoW does the exact same thing.  People find out what's best for their role and go with that.  Pot, meet Kettle.  'Nuff said.

One talent tree maybe, but it also sounds like a very expansive and customizable talent tree, offering more customization than limiting to 3 trees per class, considering that classes don't exist.

note: I'm not prejudice against WoW, I'm playing devil's advocate here.  I don't like WoW, but I don't think it's the worst trash to have been put on the market either, it's ok, I just don't like it.

If you are a melee in pvp you will be constantly moving around anyway. So it is just a downside for the casters, that have to stand still during long spellcasts.

Well, you are still going to get a stronger and more exciting player economy.

Yes, but it is very likely with one talent tree that everyone would go for exactly the same, if the community was as hardcore as the wow pve and pvp community.

To Game_guy:
Have anyone suggested Ragnarok Online yet? There are F2P servers there, and it is pretty good.

And about Lunia.. if you want to play that game, then this is what you are going to get.

WoW: Fun/ addictive/ boring after awile
Requiem:

3)unique:
WoW: Some players(Like me) Try new things, experiment/ Is just like most MMOs
Requiem:

4)Grouping:
WoW: alot of different ways to get into the community fast
Requiem:

5)Crafting:
WoW: Many different proffesions, different ways to make money(+Economics)
Requiem:

6)Level Grind:
Wow: Limited, unless your a user who dosent like quests/ Instances.
Requiem:

7)PvP:

I thought WoW was fun. Got to level 35 or somewhere around there. Played on my cousins level 70 some. But it did get boring fast and very frequently.

I played an mmo for a short period of time called Rappelz. Don't feel like searching through and seeing if someone else has posted it. I liked it a lot. But I just stopped playing as I played it on my laptop and yea I just got tired of it. It is free though.

so why isn't everybody the same class in WoW?

Class balance. In pve right now, all the classes are capable of doing the same dps, if geared and played correctly. In pvp, if a hunter and a mage who are equally skilled with their class fight each other, the hunter will always win. If a mage and a warrior who are equally skilled fight each other, the mage will always win. And so on. Also, you need different classes to preform different roles in raiding and pvp. Healing, nuking, tanking and such.

What game is good or not is completely subjective. I played wow for 5 months after the release of wrath of the lich king, but I rather wanted to play Age of Conan, which is more fun imo. So I quit wow and returned to AoC.

However if AoC didn't exist I'd probably be playing wow right now.

If you played WoW for five months, I would say it is *good.* Not necessarily better than other games, but it's fun enough that if you have an account and time, you're apt to play it eventually.

Two things:

1) Kris Allen == FAIL

2) Same of WoW. Fun, but there's a bit of a "Bore" factor there for a while.

The 2 best damn mmo's ( and if you disagree with me you're wrong )

Rappelz -- Huge amount of quests
Very regular updates--Before i am able to finish the added storyline in an update a
                                              new update is out
               Great Graphics
               Community rocks
               A whole lot of fun

RF Online -- A lot of quests
                 Good graphics
                 Community rocks
Regular updates ( not as regular as Rappelz though )
( optional )Giant robots and mech beating each other to death HELL YEAH!!!! :gunz: :gunz:

CONS : The North American, European, Asian ( most of em ) are taken down because the
Korean developers refused to have any but the Korean Servers open

Battle style : Designed to encourage grouping. It's simply perfect. It is difficult enough to encourage grouping without being frustratingly so and the fact that the community is pretty nice makes you want to group

Design : Quests are at the heart of rappelz and many are story oriented except of course the beggining quests. For every level there are tons of quests and you will easily be able to reach the next required level just by questing and still have many quests left to do ( incase you need gold or items later on in the game you can come back and do them ). As i said the updates are very regular and so quests just keep on getting better. And the fact that some quests ( particularly the higher level ones ) are restricted by race adds huge replayability
Title: Re: Need a fun FREE MMO

Battle system : ok first of all
It has all the Basic functions like attack, using skills, exp, money etc
What is unique is how you learn the skills. First of all every time you attack enemies you get jp
which can be used to increase the level of skills and you job level ( This is NOT NOT NOT the
level of your character ) increasing skill level makes that skill more effective and increasing job
level gives access to more skills. since both use jp u have to be carefull on how you use jp
also when you kill an enemy you have a chance of collecting lak which can be given to the lak
trader in exchange for money or boost chips which when used on an enemy leaves them very
vulnerable for 10 sec. There are many ranks of chips ( rank1 , rank2 etc ). There are 2 types
chips force chips ( for melee ) and magic chips ( for magic ). Also when you kill and enemy you
have a small chance of getting a card which can be used to capture monsters and use as
pets who will fight by your side. How many pets you can have at any time depends on your
                     creature taming skills

Battles are real time

BEFORE ASKING FOR INFO ASK A DAMN QUESTION >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Here's some info on pets

character attacks enemy--character gets exp, jp--character get pet cards( used for taming creatures )--character tames creature---character summons creature as pet---character kills more---pet gains exp,jp---character can choose which skills pet gains and which items it wears---character can get pets to help fight---different pets have different uses---pets can buff character---pet reaches lvl 50---- pet changes from basic stage to growth stage---pets have 3 stages basic, growth, evo

here's some info on morality

you can any time turn pk mode on or off. If pk mode is off for someone and you pk them then gain IMMORALITY points and doing good stuff will get you MORALITY points. if you get too many immorality pts you will start to lose stats. you can become good again by "praying" or doing good

AS I SAID ASK A DAMN QUESTION

Talisman online
http://www.talismanonline.com/
Although it's been months/forever since I played it, it was sort of fun and okay. The only reason I stopped playing it cause I'm not a mmo kind of guy.
This is sort of like a runescape that you download, better graphics, and a bit more battle oriented.

Florensia
http://en.florensia-online.com/
I'm playing this right now. You need a good graphics card/driver or something like that, though. It seems to be a basic mmo, but it's pretty fun, and I'm interested in whatever is that sea levels/quests are about...

Personally, I think that MMORPGs should have HUGE, COLLOSAL PvP wars, as in, dozens of people fighting at once, taking an entire battlefield. EPIC level PvP, not the sucky crap they have right now.

Rappelz has 3 very big arenas and each can fit about 100 or so characters at a time

RF online has huge HUGE wars 3 times a day. They're huge because the rewards they give are great and can be used by all level characters. Thats why even characters as low level as 30 will fight in it

-------------------------------------------
Anarchy Online

I havent played it myself but many people who have say its THE best. Even websites like gamespot etc say it has the potential to be best ever

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchy_Online

judging by the above its awesome

AGAIN I HAVEN'T PLAYED IT SO DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS

AO is fun, but theres alot of downside to it, leveling can be annoying when you hit 80+ cuz you cant find party members, you cant afford to buy new gears cuz most of em are expensive, so your reduce to buying low lev equips (except for this Hood for Agents, starts low but if you give it money, it gets better and better o_O;;), other then that, just be very social and make friends and maybe hopefully they will allow you to come exp grinding with them.

I recently discovered Runes Of Magic (http://www.runesofmagic.com/)

pretty good
it has a duel class system so you can combine any two classes ie archer/mage priest/mage warrior/mage knight/mage rouge/mage and can swich your primary and secondary class around in mid game so fairly cool

Yeah, I played it a while back.  It's pretty good as far as free MMOs go, but it gets to be all grinding, either quest grinding, kill monsters grinding, or level up skills grinding.
