Title: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on February 15, 2009, 04:11:58 pm
New times ... new work!!
Believe it or not, while I have been away from CP, I have not been away from my computer. Or, for that matter, Adobe Photoshop. I have undergone extensive tutorials and shaped a new more professional style for creating signatures. Enough talk though, let's get to the work!!

The userbar and avatar are epic. did you make those all photoshop with stock stuff?
Except for the Magna Carta render of course... (at least I think it's Magna Carta)

I obtained the zombie picture for the nemesis .jpg from a google images search, which left the artist unknown to me. If anybody finds the name of the artist, I would appreciate a PM, so that I may relay proper credit.

The girl laying in the grass came from animerender.com. I am a gold member there, and I have access to all of the gold renders 8).

All of the grass, and skies, and yes, even the energy ball were made solely by using Photoshop's extensive filters and various features. I obtained the clouds for the background from deviantart.com. The Calintz .jpg came from creativeuncut.com

**You will notice all of these in the credits.

Good work - working with filters is always a great place to start out with art - there's nothing but good stuff ahead of you if you work hard enough for it. :P Keep it up!

It's hard to read the Calintz on the text. It looks a little random having Saber there, but it's an interesting signature that's very unique. I wish I can write more, but I have nothing else to say. :<

Yet another signature ...
I'm getting pretty good at PS ...

The only outside source once again was the render of Winry from Full Metal Alchemist. The rest was generated from scratch in Adobe Photoshop CS3.

P.S.
The new sig is titled "Pointless."
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on May 18, 2009, 06:35:12 pm
Winry...Winry! D:

Haha, such a revealing signature there. It's very simplistic, but its downfall might be that it's actually pretty empty. It's not exactly that the spaciousness is a bad a thing, it's just...'pointless', hm?  You should experiment more with text blending effects. :3

Bubbles kinda making me think that Winry's taking a bath or something. o_o A bubble bath, I mean.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 18, 2009, 07:11:44 pm
Haha dirty starrod kirby, Lol.
Thanks for the tips. And the reason it is so empty was because I was focusing on the water droplets. They were the important piece to the signature. After I completed them, I didn't care about anything else ... thus, pointless, Lol.

My guess is no, that means you can't just declare them as your own work, other than that i guess they are pretty good.

Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on May 18, 2009, 11:38:02 pm
One-Shot: Work on those blending text effects more. :P Don't just reduce yourself to the pitiful features they just have. I think you would need a border around. It looks ugly just cut-off. I see your style already, and its easy-on-eyes effect.

Submit: Calintz is hard to read on the bottom left corner. Pretty cool render.

No additional comment, so great job. :)

Thank you very much Game_Guy ...
Any suggestions on how I can improve anything anyone??

edit
New signature up. 'Day at the Beach'
As it is the rough copy, I need some tips now :D. There are a couple noticeable errors right from the start though, like the cut-off. I will work on these issues asap, but in the meantime, let me know what you think XD.

edit2
In case you didn't know ... the same style was incorporated into 'Day at the Beach' as was originally introduced by 'Pointless.'
The new signature is actually taking the old's place.

edit3
I have posted the 1st update to 'Day at the Beach'

Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs

Oh? You're finally deciding to merge the text in with the picture?

Good for you. Now that you have done something like that, you should try creating very different effects to match the atmosphere you are aiming it for. This can include blending the text within the picture, such as what you are doing.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 19, 2009, 11:57:04 pm
i've been trying hard to do that, but i cant fully blend text yet ... I haven't figured out how to ... I am working on it though :D
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on May 20, 2009, 12:25:35 am
I finally decided to see your One-Shot signature. It's way better than before; your skill is increasing tremendously. The text however is way too hard to read. Please change it in future versions~.

Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 20, 2009, 12:29:03 am
Thank you Starrod ...
I will see what I can do about the text ...

Do you have any suggestions??
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on May 20, 2009, 12:30:47 am
Don't just leave it as a gradient with similar colors. Add some outside border with it more. Don't hesitate to duplicate the layer and play with some layer blending effects.

Those are some basic suggestions on my end. :)
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 20, 2009, 12:33:37 am
What exactly do you mean by border on text!!??
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: King Munkey on May 20, 2009, 12:34:30 am
The outline of it.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 20, 2009, 12:35:55 am
Well, I normally add a stroke, but in this case, I just used a glow.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on May 20, 2009, 12:37:21 am
Use the Stroke Blending Effect for a border-like look. Some cool effect you can do with the Stroke is have it Embossed with the Emboss effect there (Just set it to Stroke Emboss). :3

Don't limit yourself to just Blending Options with your text. I don't have any uploaded image that shows me going beyond with the text except for this one (Which was uploaded around mid 2008):

Spoiler: ShowHide
(http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn146/NovasonicFanboy/Stepmania%20BG/F-bg.png)

By this, be creative with your duplicates. Notice on the background here, I rotated them like heck while adding some opacity changes.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 20, 2009, 12:59:05 am
Hmm ...
I will give it a shot.

In the meantime, I was working on a remaster of the one shot.
By now, it should be up :D
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: King Munkey on May 20, 2009, 01:04:51 am
The text is still kinda hard to see. I think a stroke may make it look a little easier to read.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 20, 2009, 01:07:10 am
But the stroke removes the gradient...

edit
EUREKA!! I have found a viable solution :D
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on May 20, 2009, 01:10:01 am
Make it 1-2 points big. Make it transparent by a bit or change the layer effects. You don't need to go all cookie cutter now, just choose whatever variety of choices would work.

Or...

You can take my advice for that text and duplicate it, then work around with that. Just do what you can with tools you have. Go for it.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 20, 2009, 01:12:31 am
I've tried those things, and I didn't care for the outcome. My solution is a gradient stroke applied underneath to help visibility, while disappearing at the top where the text is clear :D ...

The new product is up for viewing :D

Edit
'One Shot' Final Copy is up...

Where were those fractals from two versions ago? I liked them being personally...can you have a blend of both?

I find having that circle with Saber kind of inconsistent, but it doesn't really matter what happens though.

Can you tinker with that bottom border a bit?

I understand that if you're sick of that image or not.  :^_^': I mean, you edited that thing over 9000 times, so...yeah.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 20, 2009, 02:02:50 am
The fractal has been re-inserted. It does give a nice feel to it :D.
What do you want to see done with the lower border!?
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs

Calintz it looks great. And I agree with SRK in that the fractals looked great.

Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: King Munkey on May 24, 2009, 09:04:35 am
I like it. I think maybe use another bg it looks almost exactly like One Shots. But it does look cool though. Maybe try giving it an icy feel.

lol no problem. Sub-Zero and Scorpion are my two favorites characters from Mortal Kombat.

I do love the Mortal Kombat symbol though.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 24, 2009, 09:58:09 am
I know ...
It was tricky to do ...

I had to apply a cooling filter several times, and use a gradient t block out some bad light on the bottom. In the end though, that symbol really looks kinda phenomenal.

Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs

Simple, yet effective. I like it. Especially that little C looking thing in the bottom left hand corner. Is that part of your name of just a little design? Hard to tell because it's so small...
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: King Munkey on May 30, 2009, 11:37:22 am
Pretty nice. Agreeing with Landith that it is simple, yet effective.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on May 30, 2009, 11:57:22 am
You just got a great 'artist's signature' there, my friend.  :haha:

Really, that signature looks great. If I were to criticize however, I would say that the text doesn't have any nice bordering or interaction with the signature background. Sure, a color is the same with the background so it merges with that, but it doesn't look too appealing. I don't really know how you can fix that...except maybe to tinker around and try out lots of text related stuff. Duplicate, rasterize, etc.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Calintz on May 30, 2009, 05:18:10 pm
@Kingmunkey && Landith:
The 'C' design is part of my personal signature. I rendered it from Calintz's pants :naughty:

Thanks Starrod. LMAO, If you haven't noticed yet, the only roadblock between my signatures and you, normally resides with the text. I'm sorry to say, that I just plain out lack the skill and knowledge of text effects to improve them. Because of this, I am forced to stick to the application's standard FX for text.

A tragedy befalls me to go outside of those default text effects as well. It would be a mistake for "me." I feel as though I still don't know enough about the full features of the program to accurately experiment with success. I believe I would just destroy the work by experimenting on it.

Nonetheless, I believe that I will sit down when I have some extra time, and experiment on text, and see what new effects come of it. You can't succeed without trying.
Title: Re: Calintz's Graphic Designs
Post by: Starrodkirby86 on May 30, 2009, 06:00:47 pm
Then, if you don't feel confident of possibly ruining a fine signature, make something new.

If you need a bunch of text layers, but feel disorganized or confused by the high quantity of layers, add a folder.

Keep experimenting, just make crap. The file's your canvas to paint on, so try out whatever techniques suit you fancy.

And yeah. :P They are still very good though. ^_^
